Proverbi 5

BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Figlio mio, fa' attenzione alla mia sapienza e porgi l'orecchio alla mia intelligenza,	1 My son, to my wisdom be attentive, to my knowledge incline your ear,
2 perché tu possa seguire le mie riflessioni e le tue labbra custodiscano la scienza.	2 That discretion may watch over you, and understanding may guard you.
3 Stillano miele le labbra di una straniera e più viscida dell'olio è la sua bocca;	3 The lips of an adulteress drip with honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil;
4 ma ciò che segue è amaro come assenzio, pungente come spada a doppio taglio.	4 But in the end she is as bitter as wormwood, as sharp as a two-edged sword.
5 I suoi piedi scendono verso la morte, i suoi passi conducono agli inferi.	5 Her feet go down to death, to the nether world her steps attain;
6 Per timore che tu guardi al sentiero della vita, le sue vie volgono qua e là; essa non se ne cura.	6 Lest you see before you the road to life, her paths will ramble, you know not where.
7 Ora, figlio mio, ascoltami e non allontanarti dalle parole della mia bocca.	7 So now, O children, listen to me, go not astray from the words of my mouth.
8 Tieni lontano da lei il tuo cammino e non avvicinarti alla porta della sua casa,	8 Keep your way far from her, approach not the door of her house,
9 per non mettere in balìa di altri il tuo vigore e i tuoi anni in balìa di un uomo crudele,	9 Lest you give your honor to others, and your years to a merciless one;
10 perché non si sazino dei tuoi beni gli estranei, non finiscano le tue fatiche in casa di un forestiero	10 Lest strangers have their fill of your wealth, your hard-won earnings go to an alien's house;
11 e tu non gema sulla tua sorte, quando verranno meno il tuo corpo e la tua carne,	11 And you groan in the end, when your flesh and your body are consumed;
12 e dica: "Perché mai ho odiato la disciplina e il mio cuore ha disprezzato la correzione?	12 And you say, "Oh, why did I hate instruction, and my heart spurn reproof!
13 Non ho ascoltato la voce dei miei maestri, non ho prestato orecchio a chi m'istruiva.	13 Why did I not listen to the voice of my teachers, nor to my instructors incline my ear!
14 Per poco non mi son trovato nel colmo dei mali in mezzo alla folla e all'assemblea".	14 I have all but come to utter ruin, condemned by the public assembly!"
15 Bevi l'acqua della tua cisterna e quella che zampilla dal tuo pozzo,	15 Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well.
16 perché le tue sorgenti non scorrano al di fuori, i tuoi ruscelli nelle pubbliche piazze,	16 How may your water sources be dispersed abroad, streams of water in the streets?
17 ma siano per te solo e non per degli estranei insieme a te.	17 Let your fountain be yours alone, not one shared with strangers;
18 Sia benedetta la tua sorgente; trova gioia nella donna della tua giovinezza:	18 And have joy of the wife of your youth,
19 cerva amabile, gazzella graziosa, essa s'intrattenga con te; le sue tenerezze ti inebrino sempre; sii tu sempre invaghito del suo amore!	19 your lovely hind, your graceful doe. Her love will invigorate you always, through her love you will flourish continually, (6:22) When you lie down she will watch over you, and when you wake, she will share your concerns; wherever you turn, she will guide you.
20 Perché, figlio mio, invaghirti d'una straniera e stringerti al petto di un'estranea?	20 Why then, my son, should you go astray for another's wife and accept the embraces of an adulteress?
21 Poiché gli occhi del Signore osservano le vie dell'uomo ed egli vede tutti i suoi sentieri.	21 For each man's ways are plain to the LORD'S sight; all their paths he surveys;
22 L'empio è preda delle sue iniquità, è catturato con le funi del suo peccato.	22 By his own iniquities the wicked man will be caught, in the meshes of his own sin he will be held fast;
23 Egli morirà per mancanza di disciplina, si perderà per la sua grande stoltezza.	23 He will die from lack of discipline, through the greatness of his folly he will be lost.
