BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 La sapienza di una massaia costruisce la casa, la stoltezza la demolisce con le mani.	1 Wisdom builds herself a house; with her own hands Folly pul s it down.
2 Chi procede con rettitudine teme il Signore, chi si scosta dalle sue vie lo disprezza.	2 Whoever keeps to an honest course fears Yahweh, whoever deserts his paths shows contempt forhim.
3 Nella bocca dello stolto c'è il germoglio della superbia, ma le labbra dei saggi sono la loro salvaguardia.	3 Pride sprouts in the mouth of the fool, the lips of the wise keep them safe.
4 Senza buoi, niente grano, l'abbondanza del raccolto sta nel vigore del toro.	4 No oxen, empty manger; strong bul , much cash.
5 Il testimone vero non mentisce, quello falso spira menzogne.	5 The truthful witness tells no lies, the false witness lies with every breath.
6 Il beffardo ricerca la sapienza ma invano, la scienza è cosa facile per il prudente.	6 In vain the mocker looks for wisdom, knowledge comes easy to the intel igent.
7 Allontànati dall'uomo stolto, e non ignorerai le labbra sapienti.	7 Keep wel clear of the fool, you wil not find wise lips there.
8 La sapienza dell'accorto sta nel capire la sua via, ma la stoltezza degli sciocchi è inganno.	8 With people of discretion, wisdom keeps a watch over their conduct, but the fol y of fools leads themastray.
9 Fra gli stolti risiede la colpa, fra gli uomini retti la benevolenza.	9 Fools mock at the sacrifice for sin, but favour resides among the honest.
10 Il cuore conosce la propria amarezza e alla sua gioia non partecipa l'estraneo.	10 The heart knows its own grief best, nor can a stranger share its joy.
11 La casa degli empi rovinerà, ma la tenda degli uomini retti avrà successo.	11 The house of the wicked wil be destroyed, the tent of the honest wil prosper.
12 C'è una via che sembra diritta a qualcuno, ma sbocca in sentieri di morte.	12 There are ways that some think straight, but they lead in the end to death.
13 Anche fra il riso il cuore prova dolore e la gioia può finire in pena.	13 Even in laughter the heart finds sadness, and joy makes way for sorrow.
14 Chi è instabile si sazierà dei frutti della sua condotta, l'uomo dabbene si sazierà delle sue opere.	14 The miscreant wil reap the reward of his conduct, and the good the reward of his deeds.
15 L'ingenuo crede quanto gli dici, l'accorto controlla i propri passi.	15 The simpleton believes any message, a person of discretion treads a careful path.
16 Il saggio teme e sta lontano dal male, lo stolto è insolente e presuntuoso.	16 The wise fears evil and avoids it, the fool is insolent and conceited.
17 L'iracondo commette sciocchezze, il riflessivo sopporta.	17 A quick-tempered person commits rash acts, but a schemer is detestable.
18 Gli inesperti erediteranno la stoltezza, i prudenti si coroneranno di scienza.	18 Simpletons have folly for their portion, people of discretion knowledge for their crown.
19 I malvagi si inchinano davanti ai buoni, gli empi davanti alle porte del giusto.	19 The evil bow down before the good, the wicked, at the gates of the upright.
20 Il povero è odioso anche al suo amico, numerosi sono gli amici del ricco.	20 The poor is detestable even to a friend, but many are they who love someone rich.
21 Chi disprezza il prossimo pecca, beato chi ha pietà degli umili.	21 One who despises the needy is at fault, one who takes pity on the poor is blessed.
22 Non errano forse quelli che compiono il male? Benevolenza e favore per quanti compiono il bene.	22 Plan evil -- isn't this to go astray? Those who plan for good can earn faithful love and constancy.
23 In ogni fatica c'è un vantaggio, ma la loquacità produce solo miseria.	23 Hard work always yields its profit, idle talk brings only want.
24 Corona dei saggi è la loro accortezza, corona degli stolti la loro stoltezza.	24 The crown of the wise is their riches; the fol y of fools is folly.
25 Salvatore di vite è un testimone vero; chi spaccia menzogne è un impostore.	25 A truthful witness saves lives, whoever utters lies is a deceiver.
26 Nel timore del Signore è la fiducia del forte; per i suoi figli egli sarà un rifugio.	26 In the fear of Yahweh is powerful security; for his children he is a refuge.
27 Il timore del Signore è fonte di vita, per evitare i lacci della morte.	27 The fear of Yahweh is a life-giving spring for eluding the snares of death.
28 Un popolo numeroso è la gloria del re; la scarsità di gente è la rovina del principe.	28 Large population, monarch's glory; dwindling population, ruler's ruin.
29 Il paziente ha grande prudenza, l'iracondo mostra stoltezza.	29 Mastery of temper is high proof of intel igence, a quick temper makes fol y worse than ever.
30 Un cuore tranquillo è la vita di tutto il corpo, l'invidia è la carie delle ossa.	30 The life of the body is a tranquil heart, but envy is a cancer in the bones.
31 Chi opprime il povero offende il suo creatore, chi ha pietà del misero lo onora.	31 To oppress the weak insults the Creator, kindness to the needy honours the Creator.
32 Dalla propria malvagità è travolto l'empio, il giusto ha un rifugio nella propria integrità.	32 For evil-doing, the wicked wil be flung headlong, but in integrity the upright wil find refuge.
33 In un cuore assennato risiede la sapienza, ma in seno agli stolti può scoprirsi?	33 Wisdom resides in an understanding heart; she is not to be found in the hearts of fools.
34 La giustizia fa onore a una nazione, ma il peccato segna il declino dei popoli.	34 Uprightness makes a nation great, by sin whole races are disgraced.
35 Il favore del re è per il ministro intelligente, il suo sdegno è per chi lo disonora.	35 A king shows favour to a wise minister, but anger to one who shames him.
