| 2 In tutte le province del re Assuero, i Giudei su assembrarono nelle proprie città per stendere la mano contro coloro ché cercavano la loro svetura. Nessuno poté resistere loro, poiché su tutti i popoli si rovesciò il timore dei Giudei. | 2 the Jews gathered in their cities throughout all the provinces of King Ahasuerus to lay hands on such as sought their hurt. And no one could make a stand against them, for the fear of them had fallen upon all peoples. |
| 3 Per timore di Mardocheo, tutti i capi delle province, i satrapi, i governatori e | funzionari del re sostennero i Giudei poiché il timore di Mardocheo era caduto su di essi. | 3 All the princes of the provinces and the satraps and the governors and the royal officials also helped the Jews, for the fear of Mordecai had fallen upon them. |

| 12 Il re allora disse alla regina Ester: «Nella cittadella di Susa i Giudei hanno ucciso e sterminato cinquecento uomini e i dieci figli di Aman; che cosa avranno fatto nelle altre province del re? Qual è ora il tuo desiderio? Ti sarà concesso! Qual è la tua domanda? Sarà esaudita!» | 12 And the king said to Queen Esther, "In Susa the capital the Jews have slain five hundred men and also the ten sons of Haman. What then have they done in the rest of the king's provinces! Now what is your petition? It shall be granted you. And what further is your request? It shall be fulfilled." |
| 13 «Se pare bene al re» disse Ester «sia concesso ai Giudei di Susa di applicare anche domani la legge di oggi e siano appesi al palo i dieci figli di Aman». | 13 And Esther said, "If it please the king, let the Jews who are in Susa be allowed tomorrow also to do according to this day's edict. | 14 Il re ordinò di fare così: concesse l’applicazione della legge a Susa e fece appendere i dieci figli di Aman. | 14 So the king commanded this to be done; a decree was issued in Susa, and the ten sons of Haman were hanged. |
| 15 I Giudei di Susa si assembrarono quindi anche il giorno quattordici del mese di Adar e uccisero a Susa trecento uomini. Non stesero però la mano al saccheggio. | 15 The Jews who were in Susa gathered also on the fourteenth day of the month of Adar and they slew three hundred men in Susa; but they laid no hands on the plunder. |
| 16 Il resto dei Giudei che si trovavano nelle province del re si assembrò per porre al sicuro la vita; ebbe quiete dai nemici e uccise settantacinquemila nemici. Non stese però la mano al saccheggio. | 16 Now the other Jews who were in the king's provinces also gathered to defend their lives, and got relief from their enemies, and slew seventy-five thousand of those who hated them; but they laid no hands on the plunder. |
| 17 Era il giorno tredici del mese di Adar. Nel giorno quattordici ebbero quiete e ne fecero un giorno di banchetti e di allegria. | 17 This was on the thirteenth day of the month of Adar, and on the fourteenth day they rested and made that a day of feasting and gladness. |
| 18 Invece i Giudei di Susa si assembrarono nel giorno tredici e nel giorno quattordici: ebbero quiete nel giorno quindici e ne fecero un giorno di banchetti e di allegria. | 18 But the Jews who were in Susa gathered on the thirteenth day and on the fourteenth, and rested on the fifteenth day, making that a day of feasting and gladness. |
| 19 Perciò i Giudei dell’aperta campagna, coloro che abitano in città non fortificate, celebrano il giorno quattordici del mese di Adar con banchetti e allegria; ne fanno un giorno festivo e si mandano reciproci doni. | 20 Mardocheo scrisse questi avvenimenti e inviò lettere a tutti i Giudei che erano in tutte le province, vicine e lontane, del re Assuero, | 20 And Mordecai recorded these things, and sent letters to all the Jews who were in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, both near and far, |
| 21 per stabilire che celebrassero ogni anno il giorno quattordici e il giorno quindici del mese di Adar, | 21 enjoining them that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar and also the fifteenth day of the same, year by year, |
| 22 come giorni nei quali i Giudei ebbero quiete dai nemici e come il mese nel quale l’aflizione si mutò per essi in gioia e il lutto si mutò in festa; e affinché li celebrassero, come giorni festivi, con banchetti, con allegria e mandandosi reciproci doni e facendo donativi ai poveri. | 22 as the days on which the Jews got relief from their enemies, and as the month that had been turned for them from sorrow into gladness and from mourning into a holiday; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, days for sending choice portions to one another and gifts to the poor. |
| 23 I Giudei adottarono ciò che spontaneamente avevano iniziato a praticare e di cui aveva scritto loro Mardocheo. | 23 So the Jews undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordecai had written to them. |
| 24 Aman, infatti, figlio di Amdata, l’Agaghita, persecutore di tutti i Giudei, tramò contro di essi per annientarli, gettò il Pur, cioè la sorte, a loro confusione e annientamento; | 24 For Haman the Agagite, the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is the lot, to crush and destroy them; |
| 25 ma, quando la sua trama giunse innanzi al re, questi, con una scrittura, ordinò: «Si rivolga contro di lui il disegno malvagio che egli ha tramato contro i Giudei e siano appesi al palo lui e i suoi figli». | 25 but when Esther came before the king, he gave orders in writing that his wicked plot which he had devised against the Jews should come upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows. |
| 26 Perciò questi giorni sono chiamati Purim dal termine Pur. | 28 Questi giorni devono essere ricordati e celebrati di generazione in generazione in ogni famiglia, in ogni provincia, in ogni città; questi giorni dei Purim non devono essere mai tralasciati dai Giudei e il ricordo di essi non deve cessare mai tra i loro discendenti. | 28 that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, in every family, province, and city, and that these days of Purim should never fall into disuse among the Jews, nor should the commemoration of these days cease among their descendants. |
