1 Locutaque est Maria et Aaron contra Moysen propter uxorem eius Aethiopissam	1 Miriam, and Aaron too, criticised Moses over the Cushite woman he had married. He had indeedmarried a Cushite woman.
2 et dixerunt: “ Num per solum Moysen locutus est Dominus? Nonne et per nos similiter est locutus? ”. Quod cum audisset Dominus	2 They said, 'Is Moses the only one through whom Yahweh has spoken? Has he not spoken through ustoo?' Yahweh heard this.
3 ­ erat enim Moyses vir humillimus super omnes homines, qui morabantur in terra ­	3 Now Moses was extremely humble, the humblest man on earth.
4 statim locutus est ad eum et ad Aaron et Mariam: “ Egredimini vos tantum tres ad tabernaculum conventus ”. Cumque fuissent egressi,	4 Suddenly Yahweh said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, 'Come out, al three of you, to the Tent ofMeeting.' They went, al three of them,
5 descendit Dominus in columna nubis et stetit in introitu tabernaculi vocans Aaron et Mariam. Qui cum issent,	5 and Yahweh descended in a pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance of the Tent. He cal ed Aaronand Miriam and they both came forward.
6 dixit ad eos: “ Audite sermones meos! Si quis fuerit inter vos propheta Domini, in visione apparebo ei vel per somnium loquar ad illum.	6 Yahweh said: Listen to my words! if there is a prophet among you, I reveal myself to him in a vision, I speak to him in a dream.
7 At non talis servus meus Moyses, qui in omni domo mea fidelissimus est!	7 Not so with my servant Moses; to him my whole household is entrusted;
8 Ore enim ad os loquor ei, et palam et non per aenigmata et figuras Dominum videt! Quare ergo non timuistis detrahere servo meo Moysi? ”.	8 to him I speak face to face, plainly and not in riddles, and he sees Yahweh's form. How, then, couldyou dare to criticise my servant Moses?
9 Iratusque contra eos abiit,	9 Yahweh's anger was aroused by them. He went away,
10 nubes quoque recessit, quae erat super tabernaculum; et ecce Maria apparuit candens lepra quasi nix. Cumque respexisset eam Aaron et vidisset perfusam lepra,	10 and as soon as the cloud left the Tent, there was Miriam covered with a virulent skin-disease, whiteas snow! Aaron turned to look at her and saw that she had contracted a virulent skin-disease.
11 ait ad Moysen: “ Obsecro, domine mi, ne imponas nobis hoc peccatum, quod stulte commisimus,	11 Aaron said to Moses: 'Oh, my Lord, please do not punish us for the sin we have been foolishenough to commit.
12 ne fiat haec quasi mortua et ut abortivum, quod proicitur de vulva matris suae; ecce iam medium carnis eius devoratum est a lepra ”.	12 Do not let her be like some monster with its flesh half eaten away when it leaves its mother's womb!'
13 Clamavitque Moyses ad Dominum dicens: “ Deus, obsecro, sana eam! ”.	13 Moses pleaded with Yahweh. 'O God,' he said, 'I beg you, please heal her!'
14 Cui respondit Dominus: “ Si pater eius spuisset in faciem illius, nonne debuerat saltem septem diebus rubore suffundi? Separetur septem diebus extra castra et postea revocabitur ”.	14 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'If her father had done no more than spit in her face, would she not beunclean for seven days? Have her shut out of the camp for seven days, and then have her brought in again.'
15 Exclusa est itaque Maria extra castra septem diebus, et populus non est motus de loco illo, donec revocata est Maria.	15 Miriam was shut out of the camp for seven days. The people did not set out until she returned.
16 Profectusque est populus de Aseroth, fixis tentoriis in deserto Pharan.	16 Then the people moved on from Hazeroth and pitched camp in the desert of Paran.
