Geremia 52

NOVA VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Filius viginti et unius anni erat Sedecias, cum regnare coepisset, etundecim annis regnavit in Ierusalem; et nomen matris eius Amital filia Ieremiaede Lobna.	1 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for eleven years inJerusalem. His mother's name was Hamital daughter of Jeremiah, of Libnah.
2 Et fecit malum in oculis Domini iuxta omnia, quae fecerat Ioachim,	2 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, just as Jehoiakim had done.
3 quoniam furor Domini erat in Ierusalem et in Iuda, usquequo proiceret eos afacie sua. Et recessit Sedecias a rege Babylonis.	3 That this should happen to Jerusalem and Judah was due to Yahweh's anger, resulting in his castingthem away from his presence. Zedekiah rebel ed against the king of Babylon.
4 Factum est autem in anno nono regnieius, in mense decimo decima mensis, venit Nabuchodonosor rex Babylonis, ipse etomnis exercitus eius, adversus Ierusalem; et obsederunt eam et aedificaveruntcontra eam munitiones in circuitu.	4 In the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, Nebuchadnezzar kingof Babylon advanced on Jerusalem with his entire army; he pitched camp in front of the city and threw upearthworks round it.
5 Et fuit civitas obsessa usque ad undecimumannum regis Sedeciae.	5 The city lay under siege till the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.
6 Mense autem quarto, nona mensis, obtinuit fames incivitate, et non erant alimenta populo terrae.	6 In the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, when famine was raging in the city and there was nofood for the populace,
7 Et dirupta est civitas, etomnes viri bellatores fugerunt exieruntque de civitate nocte per viam portae,quae est inter duos muros et ducit ad hortum regis, Chaldaeis obsidentibus urbemin gyro, et abierunt per viam, quae ducit in Arabam.	7 a breach was made in the city wal . The king and al the fighting men then fled, leaving the city undercover of dark, by way of the gate between the two wal s, which is near the king's garden -- the Chaldaeans hadsurrounded the city -- and made his way towards the Arabah.
8 Persecutus est autemChaldaeorum exercitus regem, et apprehenderunt Sedeciam in campestribus Iericho,et omnis comitatus eius diffugit ab eo.	8 The Chaldaean troops pursued the king and caught up with Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho, where allhis troops deserted.
9 Cumque comprehendissent regem,adduxerunt eum ad regem Babylonis in Rebla, quae est in terra Emath; et locutusest ad eum iudicia.	9 But the Chaldaeans captured the king and took him to the king of Babylon at Riblah in the territory ofHamath, where he passed sentence on him.
10 Et iugulavit rex Babylonis filios Sedeciae in oculiseius, sed et omnes principes Iudae occidit in Rebla;	10 He had Zedekiah's sons slaughtered before his eyes; he also had all the chief men of Judah put todeath at Riblah.
11 et oculos Sedeciae eruitet vinxit eum compedibus et adduxit eum rex Babylonis in Babylonem et posuit eumin domo carceris usque ad diem mortis eius.	11 He then put out Zedekiah's eyes and, loading him with chains, the king of Babylon carried him off toBabylon where he kept him prisoner until his dying day.
12 In mense autem quinto, decima mensis, ipse est annus nonus decimusNabuchodonosor regis Babylonis, venit Nabuzardan princeps satellitum, qui stabatcoram rege Babylonis, in Ierusalem.	12 In the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month -- it was in the nineteenth year of Nebuchadnezzarking of Babylon -- Nebuzaradan commander of the guard, a member of the king of Babylon's staff, enteredJerusalem.
13 Et incendit domum Domini et domum regis;et omnes domos Ierusalem et omnem domum magnam igni combussit;	13 He burnt down the Temple of Yahweh, the royal palace and al the houses in Jerusalem.
14 et totum murumIerusalem per circuitum destruxit cunctus exercitus Chaldaeorum, qui erat cummagistro satellitum.	14 The Chaldaean troops who accompanied the commander of the guard demolished al the wal ssurrounding Jerusalem.
15 De pauperibus autem populi et de reliquo vulgo, quod remanserat in civitate,et de perfugis, qui transfugerant ad regem Babylonis, et superfluos artificumtranstulit Nabuzardan princeps satellitum.	15 Nebuzaradan commander of the guard deported (some of the poor people and) the remainder of thepopulation left in the city, the deserters who had gone over to the king of Babylon, and the rest of the artisans.
16 De pauperibus vero terrae reliquitNabuzardan princeps satellitum in vinitores et in agricolas.	16 But Nebuzaradan commander of the guard left some of the poor country-people behind as vineyardworkers and ploughmen.
17 Columnas quoque aereas, quae erant in domo Domini, et bases et mare aereum,quod erat in domo Domini, confregerunt Chaldaei et tulerunt omne aes eorum inBabylonem.	17 The Chaldaeans broke up the bronze pil ars from the Temple of Yahweh, the wheeled stands and thebronze Sea, which were in the Temple of Yahweh, and took al the bronze away to Babylon.
18 Et lebetes et vatilla et cultros et phialas et mortariola et omniavasa aerea, quae in ministerio fuerant, tulerunt;	18 They also took the ash containers, the scoops, the knives, the sprinkling bowls, the incense bowls,and all the bronze furnishings used in worship.
19 et pelves et thymiamateriaet phialas et lebetes et candelabra et mortaria et cyathos, quotquot aureaaurea, et quotquot argentea argentea, tulit magister satellitum;	19 The commander of the guard also took the bowls, the censers, the sprinkling bowls, the ashcontainers, the lamp-stands, the goblets and the saucers: everything that was made of gold and everythingmade of silver.
20 columnasduas et mare unum et vitulos duodecim aereos, qui erant subtus basi, quamfecerat rex Salomon domui Domini. Non erat pondus aeris omnium horum vasorum.	20 As regards the two pil ars, the one Sea, the twelve bronze oxen supporting the Sea, and the wheeledstands, which King Solomon had made for the Temple of Yahweh, there was no reckoning the weight of bronzein all these objects.
21 De columnis autem, decem et octo cubiti altitudinis erant in columna una, etfuniculus duodecim cubitorum circuibat eam; porro grossitudo eius quattuordigitorum, et intrinsecus cava erat.	21 As regards the pil ars, the height of one pillar was eighteen cubits, its circumference was twelvecubits, it was four fingers thick, and hol ow inside;
22 Et capitella super utramque aerea:altitudo capitelli unius quinque cubitorum, et retiacula et malogranata supercapitellum in circuitu omnia aerea; similiter columnae secundae.	22 on it stood a capital of bronze, the height of the capital being five cubits; round the capital were filigreeand pomegranates, al in bronze. So also for the second pil ar.
23 Etmalogranata nonaginta sex dependentia; omnia malogranata centum super retiaculain circuitu.	23 There were ninety-six pomegranates round the sides, making a hundred pomegranates round thefiligree in al .
24 Et tulit magister satellitum Saraiam sacerdotem primum et Sophoniamsacerdotem secundum et tres custodes vestibuli.	24 The commander of the guard took prisoner Seraiah the chief priest, Zephaniah the priest next in rank,and the three guardians of the threshold.
25 Et de civitate tulit eunuchumunum, qui erat praepositus super viros bellatores, et septem viros de his, quividebant faciem regis, qui inventi sunt in civitate, et scribam principismilitum, qui ex populo terrae probabat tirones, et sexaginta viros de populoterrae, qui inventi sunt in medio civitatis.	25 In the city he took prisoner an official who was in command of the fighting men, seven of the king'spersonal friends who were discovered in the city, the secretary to the army commander responsible for militaryconscription, and sixty men of distinction discovered in the city.
26 Tulit autem eos Nabuzardanmagister satellitum et duxit eos ad regem Babylonis in Rebla;	26 Nebuzaradan commander of the guard took these men and brought them to the king of Babylon atRiblah,
27 et percussiteos rex Babylonis et interfecit eos in Rebla in terra Emath. Et translatus estIuda de terra sua.	27 and at Riblah, in the territory of Hamath, the king of Babylon had them put to death. Thus Judah wasdeported from its country.
28 Iste est populus, quem transtulit Nabuchodonosor: in anno septimo, Iudaeostria millia et viginti tres;	28 The number of people deported by Nebuchadnezzar was as fol ows. In the seventh year: threethousand and twenty-three Judaeans;
29 in anno octavo decimo Nabuchodonosor deIerusalem animas octingentas triginta duas;	29 in the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar, eight hundred and thirty-two persons were deported fromJerusalem;
30 in anno vicesimo tertioNabuchodonosor transtulit Nabuzardan magister satellitum animas Iudaeorumseptingentas quadraginta quinque; omnes ergo animae quattuor milia sescentae.	30 in the twenty-third year of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuzaradan commander of the guard deported sevenhundred and forty-five Judaeans. In al : four thousand six hundred persons.
31 Et factum est in tricesimo septimo anno transmigrationis Ioachin regis Iudae,duodecimo mense vicesima quinta mensis, elevavit Evilmerodach rex Babylonis,ipso anno regni sui, caput Ioachin regis Iudae; et eduxit eum de domo carceris.	31 But in the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on thetwenty-fifth day of the month, Evil-Merodach king of Babylon, in the year he came to the throne, pardonedJehoiachin king of Judah and released him from prison.
32 Et locutus est cum eo bona et posuit thronum eius super thronos regum, quierant secum in Babylone.	32 He treated him kindly and allotted him a seat above those of the other kings who were with him inBabylon.
33 Et mutavit vestimenta carceris eius, et comedebatpanem coram eo semper cunctis diebus vitae suae.	33 So Jehoiachin laid aside his prisoner's garb and for the rest of his life always ate at the king's table.
34 Et cibaria eius, cibariaperpetua dabantur ei a rege Babylonis statuta per singulos dies, usque ad diemmortis suae, cunctis diebus vitae eius.	34 And his upkeep was permanently ensured by the king, day after day, for the rest of his life until theday he died.
