Ezra v'Nechemia (עזרא ונחמיה) - Neemia 11

1 וישבו שרי העם בירושלם ושאר העם הפילו גורלות להביא אחד מן העשרה לשבת בירושלם עיר הקדש ותשע הידות בערים	1 Now the leaders of the people took up residence in Jerusalem; so the rest of the people drew lots: oneman in ten was to come and live in Jerusalem, the holy city, while the other nine were to stay in the townsoutside.
2 ויברכו העם לכל האנשים המתנדבים לשבת בירושלם	2 The people praised al those who volunteered to live in Jerusalem.
3 ואלה ראשי המדינה אשר ישבו בירושלם ובערי יהודה ישבו איש באחזתו בעריהם ישראל הכהנים והלוים והנתינים ובני עבדי שלמה	3 In the towns of Judah each man lived on his own property, but these are the provincial leaders, theIsraelites, the priests, the Levites, the temple slaves and the descendants of Solomon's slaves, who made theirhomes in Jerusalem:
4 ובירושלם ישבו מבני יהודה ומבני בנימן מבני יהודה עתיה בן עזיה בן זכריה בן אמריה בן שפטיה בן מהללאל מבני פרץ	4 Of the sons of Judah and the sons of Benjamin who made their homes in Jerusalem there were: Ofthe sons of Judah: Athaiah son of Uzziah, son of Zechariah, son of Amariah, son of Shephatiah, son ofMehalalel, of the descendants of Perez;
5 ומעשיה בן ברוך בן כל חזה בן חזיה בן עדיה בן יויריב בן זכריה בן השלני	5 and Maaseiah son of Baruch, son of Col-Hozeh, son of Hazaiah, son of Adaiah, son of Joiarib, son of Zechariah, descendant of Shelah.
6 כל בני פרץ הישבים בירושלם ארבע מאות ששים ושמנה אנשי חיל	6 The total number of the descendants of Perez living in Jerusalem was four hundred and sixty-eightoutstanding people.
7 ואלה בני בנימן סלא בן משלם בן יועד בן פדיה בן קוליה בן מעשיה בן איתיאל בן ישעיה	7 These are the sons of Benjamin: Sal u son of Meshullam, son of Joed, son of Pedaiah, son of Kolaiah,son of Maaseiah, son of Ithiel, son of Jeshaiah,
8 ואחריו גבי סלי תשע מאות עשרים ושמנה	8 and his brothers Gabbai and Sal ai; nine hundred and twenty-eight.
9 ויואל בן זכרי פקיד עליהם ויהודה בן הסנואה על העיר משנה	9 Joel son of Zichri was their chief, and Judah son of Hassenuah was second in command of the city.
10 מן הכהנים ידעיה בן יויריב יכין	10 Of the priests there were Jedaiah son of Joiakim, son of
11 שריה בן חלקיה בן משלם בן צדוק בן מריות בן אחיטוב נגד בית האלהים	11 Seraiah, son of Hilkiah, son of Meshul am, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, the chief ofthe Temple of God,
12 ואחיהם עשי המלאכה לבית שמנה מאות עשרים ושנים ועדיה בן ירחם בן פלליה בן אמצי בן זכריה בן פשחור בן מלכיה	12 and their kinsmen who performed the Temple liturgy: eight hundred and twenty-two; Adaiah son ofJeroham, son of Pelaliah, son of Amzi, son of Zechariah, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah,
13 ואחיו ראשים לאבות מאתים ארבעים ושנים ועמשסי בן עזראל בן אחזי בן משלמות בן אמר	13 and his kinsfolk, heads of families: two hundred and forty-two; and Amashai son of Azarel, son ofAhzai, son of Meshil emoth, son of Immer,
14 ואחיהם גבורי חיל מאה עשרים ושמנה ופקיד עליהם זבדיאל בן הגדולים	14 and his kinsfolk, outstanding people: one hundred and twenty-eight. Their chief was Zabdiel son ofHaggadol.
15 ומן הלוים שמעיה בן חשוב בן עזריקם בן חשביה בן בוני	15 Of the Levites there were Shemaiah son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, son ofBunni;
16 ושבתי ויוזבד על המלאכה החיצנה לבית האלהים מראשי הלוים	16 Shabbethai and Jozabad, the levitical leaders responsible for work outside the Temple of God;
17 ומתניה בן מיכה בן זבדי בן אסף ראש התחלה יהודה לתפלה ובקבקיה משנה מאחיו ועבדא בן שמוע בן גלל בן ידיתון	17 Mattaniah son of Mica, son of Zabdi, son of Asaph, who led the praises and intoned the thanksgivingassociated with the prayer, Bakbukiah being his junior col eague; and Obadiah son of Shammua, son of Galal,son of Jeduthun.
18 כל הלוים בעיר הקדש מאתים שמנים וארבעה	18 The total number of Levites in the holy city was two hundred and eighty-four.
19 והשוערים עקוב טלמון ואחיהם השמרים בשערים מאה שבעים ושנים	19 The gatekeepers: Akkub, Talmon and their kinsmen, who kept watch at the gates: one hundred andseventy-two.
20 ושאר ישראל הכהנים הלוים בכל ערי יהודה איש בנחלתו	20 The rest of Israel, including the priests and Levites, made their homes throughout the towns ofJudah, each man on his own inheritance,
21 והנתינים ישבים בעפל וציחא וגשפא על הנתינים	21 The temple slaves lived on Ophel; Ziha and Gishpa were in charge of the temple slaves.
22 ופקיד הלוים בירושלם עזי בן בני בן חשביה בן מתניה בן מיכא מבני אסף המשררים לנגד מלאכת בית האלהים	22 The official in charge of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi son of Bani, son of Hashabiah, son ofMattaniah, son of Mica, of the sons of Asaph, who led the singing in the liturgy of the Temple of God;
23 כי מצות המלך עליהם ואמנה על המשררים דבר יום ביומו	23 for the singers were under royal orders, with regulations laying down what was required of them dayby day.
24 ופתחיה בן משיזבאל מבני זרח בן יהודה ליד המלך לכל דבר לעם	24 Petahiah son of Meshezabel, of the sons of Zerah son of Judah, was the king's minister for almatters connected with the people.
25 ואל החצרים בשדתם מבני יהודה ישבו בקרית הארבע ובנתיה ובדיבן ובנתיה וביקבצאל וחצריה	25 and in the vil ages near their lands. Some of the sons of Judah made their homes in Kiriath-Arba andits dependencies, Dibon and its dependencies, Jekabzeel and its dependencies,
26 ובישוע ובמולדה ובבית פלט	26 Jeshua, Moladah, Beth-Pelet,
27 ובחצר שועל ובבאר שבע ובנתיה	27 Hazar-Shual, Beersheba and its dependencies,
28 ובצקלג ובמכנה ובבנתיה	28 Ziklag, Meconah and its dependencies,
29 ובעין רמון ובצרעה ובירמות	29 En-Rimmon, Zorah, Jarmuth,
30 זנח עדלם וחצריהם לכיש ושדתיה עזקה ובנתיה ויחנו מבאר שבע עד גיא הנם	30 Zanoah, Adullam and their vil ages, Lachish and its lands, and Azekah and its dependencies; thus,they settled from Beersheba as far as the Val ey of Hinnom.
31 ובני בנימן מגבע מכמש ועיה ובית אל ובנתיה	31 And some Benjaminites made their homes in Geba, Michmash, Aija, Bethel and its dependencies,
32 ענתות נב ענניה	32 Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah,
33 חצור רמה גתים	33 Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim,
34 חדיד צבעים נבלט	34 Hadid, Zeboim, Nebal at,
35 לד ואונו גי החרשים	35 Lod, Ono and the Valley of Craftsmen.
36 ומן הלוים מחלקות יהודה לבנימין	36 Some levitical groups lived in Judah, some in Benjamin.
