Seconda lettera ai Corinzi 7

1 Avendo adunque queste promesse, o dilettissimi, mondiamoci da ogni bruttura di carne, e di spirito, conducendo a fine la (nostra) santificazione nel timor di Dio.	1 Since these promises have been made to us, my dear friends, we should wash ourselves clean ofeverything that pol utes either body or spirit, bringing our sanctification to completion in the fear of God.
2 Dateci luogo. Noi non abbiamo offeso nissuno, non abbia corotto nissuno, non abbiamo messo in mezzo nissuno.	2 Keep a place for us in your hearts. We have not injured anyone, or ruined anyone, or taken advantageof anyone.
3 Noi dico per condannarvi: imperocché dissi già, che voi siete ne' nostri cuori per insieme vivere, e insieme morire.	3 I am not saying this to condemn anybody; as I have already told you, you are in our hearts -- so thattogether we live and together we die.
4 Molta fidanza ho io con voi, molto mi glorio di voi, son ripieno di consolazione, sono inondato dall'allegrezza in mezzo a tutte le nostre tribolazioni.	4 I can speak with the greatest frankness to you; and I can speak with the greatest pride about you: in alour hardship, I am fil ed with encouragement and overflowing with joy.
5 Imperocché arrivati pur che noi fummo nella Macedonia, alcun ristoro non ebbe la nostra carne, ma patimmo d'ogni tribolazione: battaglie al di fuori, paure al di dentro.	5 Even after we had come to Macedonia, there was no rest for this body of ours. Far from it; we werebeset by hardship on al sides, there were quarrels all around us and misgivings within us.
6 Ma colui che consola gli umili, consolò noi Iddio coll'arrivo di Tito.	6 But God, who encourages al those who are distressed, encouraged us through the arrival of Titus;
7 Né solamente coll'arrivo di lui, maanche con la consolazione, che egli aveva ricevuta da voi, riportando egli a noi il vostro desiderio, il vostro pianto, il vostro ardente affetto per me, ond'io maggiormente mi rallegrassi.	7 and not simply by his arrival only, but also by means of the encouragement that you had given him, ashe told us of your desire to see us, how sorry you were and how concerned for us; so that I was al the morejoyful.
8 Dappoiché sebbene vi rattristai con quella lettera, non me ne pento: e se me ne fossi pentito, al vedere, che quella lettera (quantunque per poco tempo) vi rattristò,	8 So now, though I did distress you with my letter, I do not regret it. Even if I did regret it -- and I realisethat the letter distressed you, even though not for long-
9 Godo adesso: non perché vi siete rattristati, ma perché vi siete rattristati a penitenza. Conciossiachè vi siete rattristati secondo Dio talmente, che in nissuna cosa avete ricevuto danno da' noi.	9 I am glad now, not because you were made to feel distress, but because the distress that you werecaused led to repentance; your distress was the kind that God approves and so you have come to no kind ofharm through us.
10 Imperocché la tristezza, che è secondo Dio, produce una penitenza stabile per la salute: la tristezza poi del secolo produce la morte.	10 For to be distressed in a way that God approves leads to repentance and then to salvation with noregrets; it is the world's kind of distress that ends in death.
11 Imperocché ecco, questo stesso essere stati voi rattristati secondo Dio quanta ha prodotto in voi sollicitudine: anzi apologia, anzi sdegno, anzi timore, anzi desiderio, anzi zelo, anzi vendetta? Per tutti i versi avete fatto conoscere, che voi siete innocenti in quell'affare.	11 Just look at this present case: at what the result has been of your being made to feel distress in theway that God approves -- what concern, what defence, what indignation and what alarm; what yearning, andwhat enthusiasm, and what justice done. In every way you have cleared yourselves of blame in this matter.
12 Sebbene adunque vi scrissi, noi feci per riguardo a colui, che fece l'ingiuria, né per riguardo a colui, che la patì: ma per far palese la sollecitudine nostra, che abbiamo per voi	12 So although I wrote a letter to you, it was not for the sake of the offender, nor for the one offended, butonly so that you yourselves should fully realise in the sight of God what concern you have for us.
13 Dinanzi a Dio: per questo siamo stati consolati. Ma nella nostra consolazione ci siamo anche più grandemente rallegrati dell'allegrezza di Tito, perché è stato ristorato lo spirito di lui da tutti voi:	13 That is what I have found encouraging. In addition to all this to encourage us, we were made al themore joyful by Titus' joy, now that his spirit has been refreshed by you al .
14 E se alcun poco mi era gloriato di voi con esso, non son rimaso confuso: ma come in tutte le cose abbiamo detta a voi la verità, cosi il vanto, ch'io mi era dato con Tito, è stato una verità,	14 And if I boasted about you to him in any way, then I have not been made to look foolish; indeed, ourboast to Titus has been proved to be as true as anything we said to you.
15 Ed egli più svisceratamente vi ama, mentre si sovviene della ubbidienza di tutti voi, e come lo accoglieste con timore, e tremore.	15 His personal affection for you is all the stronger when he remembers how obedient you have all been,and how you welcomed him with fear and trembling.
16 Mi rallegro adunque della totale fidanza, che ho in voi.	16 I am glad that I have every confidence in you.
