Amos 5

BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ascoltate queste parole, colle quali io tesso lugubre cantico sopra di voi: La casa d'Israele è caduta, e non tornerà a risorgere.	1 Listen to this word which I utter against you, it is a dirge, House of Israel:
2 La vergine d'Israele è gettata per terra, e non havvi chi la rialzi.	2 She has fal en down, never to rise again, the virgin Israel. There she lies on her own soil, with no oneto lift her up.
3 Imperocché così dice il Signore Dio: La città, che dava mille uomini, rimarrà con cento, e quella, che ne dava cento, resterà con dieci nella famiglia d'Israele.	3 For Lord Yahweh says this: The town which used to put a thousand in the field wil be left with ahundred, and the one which used to put a hundred will be left with ten, to fight for the House of Israel.
4 Ma il Signore dice alla casa d'Israele; Cercatemi, e viverete:	4 For Yahweh says this to the House of Israel: Seek me out and you wil survive,
5 E non cercate di Bethel, e non andate a Galgal, e non passate a Bersabea; perocché Galgala anderà in ischiavitu, e Bethel sarà casa vuota.	5 but do not seek out Bethel, do not go to Gilgal, do not journey to Beersheba, for Gilgal is going intocaptivity and Bethel will be brought to nothing.
6 Cercate il Signore, e viverete: affinchè per disgrazia non arda come fuoco la casa di Giuseppe, e non divori Bethel, senza che siavi chi lo estingua.	6 Seek out Yahweh and you wil survive or else he wil sweep like fire upon the House of Joseph andburn it down, with no one at Bethel able to quench the flames.
7 O voi, che convertite il giudizio in amarezza, e lasciate la giustizia per terra,	7 They turn justice into wormwood and throw uprightness to the ground.
8 Cercate lui, che creò Arturo, ed Orione, che cangia le tenebre in mattino, e muta il giorno in notte, che chiama le acque del mare, e le versa sopra la terra: il suo nome egli è, il Signore:	8 He it is who makes the Pleiades and Orion, who turns shadow dark as death into morning and day todarkest night, who summons the waters of the sea and pours them over the surface of the land. Yahweh is hisname.
9 Il quale scherzando manda per terra i robusti, e fa, che siano saccheggiati i potenti.	9 He brings destruction on the strong and ruin comes on the fortress.
10 Hanno odiato chi alla porta li correggeva, ed hanno preso in avversione chi parlava con rettitudine.	10 They hate the man who teaches justice at the city gate and detest anyone who declares the truth.
11 Per questa, siccome voi spogliavate il povero, e gli toglievate il meglio, voi edificherete delle case di pietra quadrata, ma non le abiterete: e pianterete vigne deliziosissime, ma non ne berete il vino:	11 For trampling on the poor man and for extorting levies on his wheat: although you have built housesof dressed stone, you wil not live in them; although you have planted pleasant vineyards, you wil not drink winefrom them:
12 Perocché sono note a me le molte vostre scelleraggini, e i forti peccati vostri, o nemici della giustizia, amanti dei doni, oppressori dei poveri alle porte:	12 for I know how many your crimes are and how outrageous your sins, you oppressors of the upright,who hold people to ransom and thrust the poor aside at the gates.
13 Per questo il prudente in tempo tale si tacerà, perche è tempo cattivo.	13 That is why anyone prudent keeps silent now, since the time is evil.
14 Cercate il bene, e non il male, affine di aver vita, e il Signore Dio degli eserciti sarà con voi, come avete detto.	14 Seek good and not evil so that you may survive, and Yahweh, God Sabaoth, be with you as you claimhe is.
15 Odiate il male, e amate il bene, e rimettete in piedi la giustizia alla porta, e il Signore Dio degli eserciti avrà forse misericordia delle reliquie di Giuseppe.	15 Hate evil, love good, let justice reign at the city gate: it may be that Yahweh, God Sabaoth, wil takepity on the remnant of Joseph.
16 Per questo così dice il Signore Dio degli eserciti, il Dominatore: In tutte le piazze saran lamenti, e in tutti i luoghi di fuori dirassi: Guai, guai, e s'inviteranno al pianto gli agricoltori, e al duolo tutti quelli, che sanno far duolo.	16 Therefore Yahweh Sabaoth, the Lord, says this: In every public square there wil be lamentation, inevery street they will cry out, 'Alas! Alas!' The farmer wil be called on to mourn, the professional mourners tolament,
17 E in tutte le vigne saranno lamenti, perchè io passero per mezzo a voi, dice il Signore.	17 and there wil be wailing in every vineyard, for I mean to pass through among you, Yahweh says.
18 Guai a quelli, che desiderano il dì del Signore. Perchè lo bramate voi? Quel giorno saran tenebre, e non luce.	18 Disaster for you who long for the Day of Yahweh! What will the Day of Yahweh mean for you? It wilmean darkness, not light,
19 Come un uomo, che fugge la vista del lione, e s'imbatte in un orso, od entrando in sua casa, e appoggiandosi colla mano alla parete vien morso da un serpente.	19 as when someone runs away from a lion, only to meet a bear; he goes into his house and puts hishand on the wal , only for a snake to bite him.
20 Non sarà egli giorno di tenebre,e non di luce il dì del Signore, e mera caligine senza splendore?	20 Will not the Day of Yahweh be darkness, not light, total y dark, without a ray of light?
21 Io odio, e rigetto le vostre solennità, e non gradirò gli odori delle vostre adunanze.	21 I hate, I scorn your festivals, I take no pleasure in your solemn assemblies.
22 Che se mi offerite gli olocausti, e i doni vostri, io non gli accetterò, e non volgerò gli occhi alle grasse ostie offerte per voto da voi.	22 When you bring me burnt offerings . . . your oblations, I do not accept them and I do not look at yourcommunion sacrifices of fat cattle.
23 Lungi da me lo sconcerto de' vostri carmi, io non ascolterò le canzoni cantate da te sulla lira.	23 Spare me the din of your chanting, let me hear none of your strumming on lyres,
24 Ma la vendetta verrà fuori come acqua, e la giustizia come impetuoso torrente.	24 but let justice flow like water, and uprightness like a never-failing stream!
25 Mi offeriste voi forse per quarant'anni ostie, e sagrifizj nel deserto, o casa d'Israele?	25 Did you bring me sacrifices and oblations those forty years in the desert, House of Israel?
26 E voi portavate il tabernacolo del vostro Moloch, e le figure de' vostri idoli, e la stella del vostro Dio, cose fatte da voi.	26 Now you must shoulder Sakkuth your king and the star of your God, Kaiwan, those idols you made foryourselves;
27 Or io vi farò passare di là da Damasco, Dice il Signore; il suo nome egli è, Dio degli eserciti.	27 for I am about to drive you into captivity beyond Damascus, Yahweh says -- God Sabaoth is hisname.
