Prima lettera di Pietro 4

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Avendo dunque Cristo patito nella carne, ornatevi anche voi dello stesso pensiero, che cioè chi ha patito nella carne l'ha finita coi peccati,	1 As Christ has undergone bodily suffering, you too should arm yourselves with the same conviction, thatanyone who has undergone bodily suffering has broken with sin,
2 per vivere il tempo che gli resta da passar nella carne non in balìa delle passioni umane, ma secondo la volontà di Dio.	2 because for the rest of life on earth that person is ruled not by human passions but only by the wil ofGod.
3 Infatti è già troppo il tempo consumato nel soddisfare i capricci dei gentili, per coloro che son vissuti nelle lussurie, nelle cupidigie, nell'ubbriachezza, nelle orgie, nei bagordi, nell'illecito culto degli idoli.	3 You spent quite long enough in the past living the sort of life that gentiles choose to live, behaving in adebauched way, giving way to your passions, drinking to excess, having wild parties and drunken orgies andsacrilegiously worshipping false gods.
4 Ed ora si stupiscono e bestemmiano, perchè voi non vi abbandonate allo stesso obbrobrio di lussuria.	4 So people are taken aback that you no longer hurry off with them to join this flood which is rushingdown to ruin, and then abuse you for it.
5 Ma essi dovran rendere conto a chi sta per giudicare i vivi e i morti.	5 They wil have to answer for it before the judge who is to judge the living and the dead.
6 Appunto per questo il Vangelo ò stato predicato anche ai morti, affinchè, giudicati secondo gli uomini in quanto alla carne, vivano secondo Dio quanto allo spirito.	6 And this was why the gospel was brought to the dead as wel , so that, though in their bodies they hadundergone the judgement that faces al humanity, in their spirit they might enjoy the life of God.
7 Or la fine d'ogni cosa è vicina. Siate dunque prudenti e vegliate nelle preghiere.	7 The end of all things is near, so keep your minds calm and sober for prayer.
8 Sopra tutto però abbiate continuamente tra voi stessi la mutua carità, perchè la carità copre la moltitudine dei peccati.	8 Above al preserve an intense love for each other, since love covers over many a sin.
9 Praticate l'ospitalità gli uni verso gli altri, senza mormorazioni.	9 Welcome each other into your houses without grumbling.
10 Ciascuno secondo il dono ricevuto lo metta a servizio degli altri, come i buoni dispensatori della multiforme grazia di Dio.	10 Each one of you has received a special grace, so, like good stewards responsible for all these variedgraces of God, put it at the service of others.
11 Se uno parla, parli come chi espone gli oracoli di Dio; se uno esercita un ministero, lo faccia per la virtù comunicata da Dio, affinchè in tutto sia glorificato Dio per Gesù Cristo di cui è la gloria e l'impero nei secoli dei secoli. Così sia.	11 If anyone is a speaker, let it be as the words of God, if anyone serves, let it be as in strength grantedby God; so that in everything God may receive the glory, through Jesus Christ, since to him alone belong alglory and power for ever and ever. Amen.
12 Carissimi, non vi stupite del gran fuoco acceso contro di voi per provarvi, come di cosa nuova che vi accada;	12 My dear friends, do not be taken aback at the testing by fire which is taking place among you, asthough something strange were happening to you;
13 ma godete di partecipare ai patimenti di Cristo perchè così potete rallegrarvi ed esultare quando si manifesterà la gloria di lui.	13 but in so far as you share in the sufferings of Christ, be glad, so that you may enjoy a much greatergladness when his glory is revealed.
14 Se siete vituperati pel nome di Cristo, beati voi! perchè l'onore, la gloria, la virtù di Dio e lo spirito di lui riposa su di voi.	14 If you are insulted for bearing Christ's name, blessed are you, for on you rests the Spirit of God, theSpirit of glory.
15 Che nessuno di voi abbia a soffrire come omicida, o ladro, o maldicente, o insidiatore di beni altrui:	15 None of you should ever deserve to suffer for being a murderer, a thief, a criminal or an informer;
16 se poi soffre come cristiano, non se ne vergogni; ma glorifichi Dio per tal nome.	16 but if any one of you should suffer for being a Christian, then there must be no shame but thanksgiving to God for bearing this name.
17 Perchè è tempo che cominci il giudizio della casa di Dio; e se comincia da noi dove andranno a finire coloro che non obbediscono al Vangelo di Dio?	17 The time has come for the judgement to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, whatwil be the end for those who refuse to believe God's gospel?
18 E se sarà salvato appena il giusto, dove compariranno l'empio e il peccatore?	18 If it is hard for the upright to be saved, what wil happen to the wicked and to sinners?
19 Pertanto anche quelli i quali per la volontà di Dio patiscono, raccomandino le anime loro al fedel Creatore, facendo del bene.	19 So even those whom God allows to suffer should commit themselves to a Creator who is trustworthy,and go on doing good.
