| 2 di non lasciarvi così presto turbare di animo o allarmare er qualche rivelazione, qualche detto o qualche lettera a noi attribuiti, che presenterebbero come imminente il giorno del Signore. | 2 please do not be too easily thrown into confusion or alarmed by any manifestation of the Spirit or anystatement or any letter claiming to come from us, suggesting that the Day of the Lord has already arrived. |
| 3 Che nessuno vi illuda in alcun modo. È necessario che prima si verifichi l’apostasia, si manifesti l’iniquo, il dannato, | 3 Never let anyone deceive you in any way. It cannot happen until the Great Revolt has taken place andthere has appeared the wicked One, the lost One, |
| 4 l’avversario, colui che si esalta al di sopra di tutto ciò che porta il nome di Dio o è oggetto di culto, fino a insediarsi nel tempio di Dio e a proclamarsi Dio. | 4 the Enemy, who raises himself above every so-cal ed God or object of worship to enthrone himself inGod's sanctuary and flaunts the claim that he is God. |

| 6 È voi ben conoscete l'impedimento attuale, per cui l’avversario non può manifestarsi che nel momento assegnatogli. | 6 And you know, too, what is still holding him back from appearing before his appointed time. |
| 7 Il mistero d’iniquità infatti già esercita la sua azione nefasta; solo che c’è chi attualmente lo trattiene, fino a che non venga tolto di mezzo. | 7 The mystery of wickedness is already at work, but let him who is restraining it once be removed, |
| 8 E allora l’iniquo si manifesterà, ma Gesù lo distruggerà col soffio della sua bocca, l’annienterà con lo splendore della sua venuta. | 8 and the wicked One will appear openly. The Lord wil destroy him with the breath of his mouth and wilannihilate him with his glorious appearance at his coming. |
| 9 La manifestazione dell’empio, per l’azione di Satana, sarà accompagnata da ogni specie di portenti, segni e prodigi ingannevoli, | 9 But the coming of the wicked One wil be marked by Satan being at work in al kinds of counterfeitmiracles and signs and wonders, |
| 10 e da ogni specie di seduzioni di cui l’iniquità è capace, a danno di quelli che si perdono perché non hanno accolto l’amore per la verità che li avrebbe salvati. | 10 and every wicked deception aimed at those who are on the way to destruction because they would notaccept the love of the truth and so be saved. |
| 11 Per questo, Iddio manda loro una potenza seduttrice che li farà aderire alla menzogna, | 11 And therefore God sends on them a power that deludes people so that they believe what is false, |
| 12 affinché siano condannati tutti quelli che non han creduto alla verità ma si sono compiaciuti nell’iniquità. | 12 and so that those who do not believe the truth and take their pleasure in wickedness may al becondemned. |
| 13 Quanto a noi, dobbiamo ringraziare sempre Iddio nei vostri riguardi, o fratelli diletti dal Signore, perché Iddio vi ha scelto qual primizie, per salvarvi mediante l’azione santificatrice dello Spirito e la fede nella verità. | 13 But we must always thank God for you, brothers whom the Lord loves, because God chose you fromthe beginning to be saved by the Spirit who makes us holy and by faith in the truth. |
| 14 A tale scopo, vi ha chiamato mediante la nostra evangelizzazione, perché vi acquistiate il possesso della gloria del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo. | 14 Through our gospel he called you to this so that you should claim as your own the glory of our LordJesus Christ. |
| 15 Ora dunque, o fratelli, state saldi e seguite fedelmente le dottrine che vi abbiamo trasmesse, sia a viva voce che per lettera. | 15 Stand firm, then, brothers, and keep the traditions that we taught you, whether by word of mouth or byletter. |
| 16 E che lo stesso Signor nostro Gesù Cristo e Iddio, Padre nostro, che ci ha amato e ci ha donato, per sua grazia, un’eterna consolazione e una lieta speranza, | 16 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father who has given us his love and, through hisgrace, such ceaseless encouragement and such sure hope, |
| 17 consolino i vostri cuori e vi corroborino in ogni opera buona e in ogni buona parola. | 17 encourage you and strengthen you in every good word and deed. |
