1 I figli di Ruben, primogenito di Israele — fu lui infatti il primogenito; avendo però profanato il talamo di suo padre, la sua primogenitura passò ai figli di Giuseppe, figlio di Israele. Ma nel registro genealogico non si badò alla primogenitura,	1 Also, there were the sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel. For indeed, he was his firstborn, but when he had violated the bed of his father, his right as firstborn was given to the sons of Joseph, the son of Israel, and he was not reputed as firstborn.

9 A oriente raggiungeva il limite del deserto, che si estende dal fiume Eufrate in qua. I loro armenti infatti erano molto aumentati nella terra di Galaad.	9 And he lived toward the eastern region, as far as the entrance to the wilderness and the river Euphrates. For indeed, they possessed a great number of cattle in the land of Gilead.
10 Al tempo di Saul fecero guerra con gli Hagareni che caddero nella loro mano, ed essi abitarono nelle loro tende, lungo tutta la regione orientale di Galaad.	10 Then, in the days of Saul, they battled against the Hagarites and put them to death. And they lived in place of them, in their dwellings, throughout the entire region that looks to the east of Gilead.
11 Di fronte a loro abitavano i figli di Gad nella terra di Bashan spingendosi fino a Salcha.	11 Truly, the sons of Gad lived in the opposite region from them, in the land of Bashan, as far as Salecah:
12 Il capo era Gioele; Shafan in seconda; poi venivano Janai e Shafat in Bashan,	12 Joel the head, and Shapham the second, then Janai and Shaphat, in Bashan.

16 Costoro abitavano in Galaad, in Bashan e nelle sue dipendenze e in tutti i pascoli di Sharon, che sono situati ai loro confini.	16 And they lived in Gilead, and in Bashan and its towns, and in all the suburbs of Sharon, as far as the borders.
17 Tutti questi furono registrati al tempo di Jotam re di Giuda e al tempo di Geroboamo re di Israele.	17 All these were numbered in the days of Jotham, the king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam, the king of Israel:
18 18 I figli di Ruben, i Gaditi e metà della tribù di Manasse, gente valorosa, uomini che portavano scudo e spada, tiratori d’arco e addestrati alla guerra, erano quarantaquattromilasettecentosessanta, pronti a uscire in battaglia.	18 the sons of Reuben, and of Gad, and the one half tribe of Manasseh, men of war, carrying shields and swords, and bending the bow, and trained for battle, forty-four thousand and seven hundred sixty, advancing to the fight.
19 Costoro mossero guerra agli Hagareni, a Jetur, a Nafish e a Nodab.	19 They struggled against the Hagarites, yet truly the Jetureans, and Naphish, and Nodab offered assistance to them.
20 Essendo stato prestato loro soccorso nella lotta contro questi, gli Hagareni con tutti gli alleati furono messi nelle loro mani. Essi infatti nel combattimento avevano gridato invocando Dio e Dio li esaudì perchè avevano avuto fiducia in lui.	20 And the Hagarites were delivered into their hands, and all who were with them. For they called upon God while they did battle. And he heeded them, because they had trusted in him.
21 Perciò depredarono i loro armenti: cinquantamila cammelli, duecentocinquantamila pecore, duemila asini e, in più, centomila persone,	21 And they seized all that they possessed, of camels fifty thousand, and of sheep two hundred fifty thousand, and of donkeys two thousand, and of men one hundred thousand lives.
22 perchè molti erano caduti trafitti, dal momento che la guerra era stata voluta da Dio. Quindi si stabilirono nelle loro sedi e vi rimasero fino al tempo della deportazione.	22 And many fell down wounded. For it was a war of the Lord. And they lived in place of them, until the transmigration.
23 I figli di metà della tribù di Manasse abitavano nella regione che si estendeva da Bashan a Baal-Hermon, Senir e al monte Hermon. Essi crebbero in grande numero.	23 Also, the sons of the one half tribe of Manasseh possessed the land, from the parts of Bashan as far as Baal, Hermon, and Sanir, and Mount Hermon. For certainly, their number was immense.
24 Questi sono i capi delle loro casate: Efer, Jishei, Eliel, Azriel, Irmia, Hodavia, Jakhdiel, uomini prodi, gente di grido, capi della loro casata.	24 And these were leaders of the house of their kindred: Epher, and Ishi, and Eliel, and Azriel, and Jeremiah, and Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, very valiant and powerful men, and renown leaders in their families.
25 Essi però furono infedeli al Dio dei loro padri e si prostituirono seguendo le divinità dei popoli della terra che Dio aveva distrutto innanzi a loro.	25 But they abandoned the God of their fathers, and they fornicated after the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God took away before them.
26 Il Dio di Israele perciò eccitò lo spirito di Pul, re di Assiria, cioè lo spirito di Tiglat-Pileser, re di Assiria, ed egli li deportò, cioè i Rubeniti, i Gaditi e metà della tribù di Manasse, trasferendoli a Khalakh, lungo il Khabor, fiume del Gozan e nelle città della Media, dove sono rimasti fino a oggi.	26 And so the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul, the king of the Assyrians, and the spirit of Tilgath-pilneser, the king of Assur. And he took away Reuben, and Gad, and the one half tribe of Manasseh. And he led them to Halah, and to Habor, and to Hara, and to the river of Gozan, even to this day.
27 Figli di Levi: Ghershon, Kehat, Merari.
28 Figli di Kehat: Amram, Jizehar, Khebron e Uzziel.
29 Discendenti di Amram: Aronne, Mosè e Maria; figli di Aronne: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazaro e Itamar.
30 Eleazaro generò Pinkhas; Pinkhas generò Abishua;
31 Abishua generò Bukki; Bukki generò Uzzi;
32 Uzzi generò Zerakhia; Zerakhia generò Meraiot;
33 Meraiot generò Amaria; Amaria generò Akhitub;
34 Akhitub generò Zadok; Zadok generò Akhimaaz;
35 Akhimaaz generò Azaria; Azaria generò Jokhanan;
36 Jokhanan generò Azaria. Costui esercitò il sacerdozio nel tempio che Salomone aveva costruito a Gerusalemme.
37 Azaria generò Amaria; Amaria generò Akhitub;
38 Akhitub generò Zadok; Zadok generò Shallum;
39 Shallum generò Helkia; Helkia generò Azaria;
40 Azaria generò Seraia; Seraia generò Jozadak
41 e Jozadak se ne andò, quando Jahve deportò Giuda e Gerusalemme per mezzo di Nabucodonosor.
