| 1 Quindi David parlò a tutta l’assemblea: « Salomone mio figlio, che Dio ha scelto, è ancora giovane e senza esperienza, mentre l’opera è grandiosa; non si tratta infatti di una casa per un uomo, ma per Jahve Dio. | 1 David then addressed the whole assembly, 'Solomon my son, whom Yahweh has specifical y chosen,is young and immature, and the work is great; this palace is not for any human being but for Yahweh God. |
| 2 Io pertanto, senza risparmiarmi, ho preparato, per il tempio del mio Dio oro per le suppellettili d’oro, argento per le suppellettili d’argento, bronzo per le suppellettili di bronzo, ferro per le suppellettili di ferro, legno per le suppellettili di legno; di più, onici con castoni, malachite e pietre variegate: insomma ogni genere di pietre preziose e marmo in grande quantità. | 2 With al the resources I can command, for the house of my God I have provided gold for what must bemade of gold, silver for what must be made of silver, bronze for what must be made of bronze, iron for what mustbe made of iron, wood for what must be made of wood, as well as cornelian for inlay work, slabs of multi-coloured mosaic, every kind of precious stone and quantities of alabaster. |

| 5 per l’oro necessario per le.suppellettili d’oro e per l’argento necessario per le suppellettili d’argento e per ogni lavoro da compiersi per mezzo degli artefici. Chi dunque oggi è pronto a riempire la sua mano per offrire doni a Jahve? ». | 5 the gold being for what must be made of gold, and the silver for what must be made of silver: and forwhatever the craftsmen must make. Who, then, is wil ing to devote himself to Yahweh's service today?' |
| 6 Allora i capicasata, i capitribù di Israele, i capi di mille e di cento e gli alti funzionari al servizio del re, con un’offerta spontanea, | 6 At this, the heads of families, the tribal chiefs of Israel, the commanders of the thousands and thehundreds and those who managed the king's affairs, |
| 7 diedero per la costruzione del tempio di Dio cinquemila talenti d’oro, diecimila darici, diecimila talenti d’argento, diciottomila talenti di bronzo e centomila talenti di ferro. | 7 volunteered a gift of five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents ofsilver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze and a hundred thousand talents of iron, |
| 8 Chiunque possedeva pietre preziose le consegnò in mano a Jekhiel il Ghershonita per il tesoro del tempio di Jahve. | 8 while those who owned precious stones presented them to the treasury of the house of Yahweh in thecustody of Jehiel the Gershonite. |
| 9 Il popolo si rallegrò per la loro liberalità; essi infatti avevano presentato le loro offerte a Jahve con tutto cuore; non solo, ma anche il re David gioì grandemente. | 9 The people rejoiced at what these had given so readily, since they had presented their freewilofferings wholeheartedly to Yahweh. King David too was fil ed with joy. |
| 10 David allora benedisse Jahve innanzi a tutta l’assemblea, esclamando: « Tu sei benedetto, Jahve Dio di Israele nostro padre di eternità in eternità! | 10 Hence, in the presence of the whole assembly David blessed Yahweh. David said: 'May you beblessed, Yahweh, God of Israel our ancestor, for ever and for ever! |
| 11 Tue, o Jahve, sono la grandezza e la potenza, lo splendore, la gloria e la maestà; perchè quanto stanei cieli e sulla terra è uo. Tuo, o Jahve, è il regno e tu sei colui che si erge come capo sopra tutti. | 11 Yours, Yahweh, is the greatness, the power, the splendour, length of days and glory, everything inheaven and on earth is yours. Yours is the sovereignty, Yahweh; you are exalted, supreme over al . |
| 12 La ricchezza e la dignità procedono da te; tu domini sopra ogni cosa; nella tua mano ci sono forza e potenza e nella tua mano il potere di rendere grande e forte ogni cosa. | 12 Wealth and riches come from you, you are ruler of all, in your hand lie strength and power, and youbestow greatness and might on whomsoever you please. |
| 13 Ora, nostro Dio, noi ti celebriamo e inneggiamo al tuo nome splendido. | 13 So now, our God, we give thanks to you and praise your majestic name, |
| 14 Chi sono dunque io e chi è il mio popolo perchè siamo capaci di presentarti liberamente qualche offerta! Tutto proviene da te e ciò che abbiamo ricevuto dalla tua mano te lo abbiamo dato. | 14 for who am I and what is my people, for us to be able to volunteer offerings like this? - sinceeverything has come from you and we have given you only what you bestowed in the first place, |
| 15 Noi, infatti, siamo forestieri innanzi a te e avventizi, come furono tutti i nostri padri. I nostri giorni sulla terra sono come un’ombra e senza speranza. | 15 and we are guests before you, and passing visitors as were al our ancestors, our days on earthfleeting as a shadow and without hope. |
| 16 O Jahve nostro Dio, tutta questa abbondanza che noi abbiamo preparato per edificarti una casa per il tuo santo nome proviene dalla tua mano ed è tutta tua. | 16 Yahweh our God, all this wealth, which we have provided to build a house for your holy name, hascome from you and all belongs to you. |
| 17 lo so, mio Dio, che tu scruti il cuore e ti compiaci della rettitudine. Ebbene, con cuore retto io ho offerto liberamente tutte queste cose e ora constato come il popolo che è qui ti presenta con gioia le sue libere offerte. | 17 'Knowing, my God, how you examine our motives and how you delight in integrity, with integrity ofmotive I have wil ingly given all this and have been overjoyed to see your people, now present here, wil inglyoffering their gifts to you. |
| 18 Jahve Dio d’Abramo, di Isacco e di Israele, nostri padri, conserva una tale disposizione per sempre nei pensieri, che si vanno formando nell’animo del tuo popolo, e dirigi il loro cuore verso di te! | 18 Yahweh, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel our ancestors, watch over this for ever, shape thepurpose of your people's heart and direct their hearts to you, |
| 19 A Salomone mio figlio concedi un cuore perfetto; ed egli custodirà i tuoi comandamenti, i tuoi precetti, i tuoi statuti, li metterà tutti in pratica ed edificherà la casa che ho preparato ». | 19 and give an undivided heart to Solomon my son to keep your commandments, your decrees andyour statutes, to put them all into effect and to build the palace for which I have made provision.' |
| 20 Poi David disse a tutta l’assemblea: « Orsù, benedite Jahve vostro Dio! ». L’intera assemblea benedisse Jahve, Dio dei padri, si inchinò e si prostrò innanzi a Jahve e al re. | 20 David then addressed the whole assembly: 'Now bless Yahweh your God!' And the whole assemblyblessed Yahweh, God of their ancestors, bowing down in homage to Yahweh, and to the king. |
| 21 Quindi immolarono vittime e offrirono, il giorno dopo, in olocausto a Jahve mille giovenchi, mille montoni, mille agnelli con le relative libazioni e anche una grande quantità di vittime per tutto Israele. | 21 On the day fol owing this, they slaughtered sacrifices and brought burnt offerings to Yahweh onbehalf of Israel -- a thousand bul s, a thousand rams, a thousand lambs with their libations, as wel as manyother sacrifices- |
| 22 Quel giorno pertanto mangiarono e bevvero innanzi a Jahve con grande letizia, proclamarono re Salomone, figlio di David e unsero lui principe: e Zadok sacerdote. | 22 and they ate and drank that day in Yahweh's presence with great joy. They then made Solomon sonof David king a second time, anointing him as leader for Yahweh, and Zadok as priest. |
| 23 Al lora Salomone sedette sul trono di Jahve al posto di David suo padre. Fu fortunato e tutto Israele gli ubbidì. | 23 Solomon took his seat on Yahweh's throne, to reign in succession to David his father. He prospered,and all Israel obeyed him. |
| 24 Tutti i capi, i prodi e anche tutti i figli del re David promisero fedeltà a Salomone re. | 24 Al the chiefs, al the leading citizens and al King David's other sons pledged allegiance to KingSolomon. |
| 25 Jahve poi rese grande Salomone al cospetto di tutto Israele, concedendogli una maestà regale che nessun re di Israele aveva posseduto prima di lui. | 25 Yahweh made Solomon exceedingly powerful, as all Israel could see, and gave him a reign of suchsplendour as no previous king of Israel ever had. |
| 26 David, figlio di Jesse, regnò su tutto Israele, | 26 David son of Jesse was king of al Israel. |

| 28 Morì in felice vecchiaia, sazio di giorni, di ricchezza è di onore. Salomone suo figlio regnò al suo posto. | 28 He died at a good old age, ful of days, riches and honour. Then his son Solomon succeeded him. |
