| 1 Quindi David parlò a tutta l’assemblea: « Salomone mio figlio, che Dio ha scelto, è ancora giovane e senza esperienza, mentre l’opera è grandiosa; non si tratta infatti di una casa per un uomo, ma per Jahve Dio. | 1 King David then said to the whole assembly: "My son Solomon, whom alone God has chosen, is still young and immature; the work, however, is great, for this castle is not intended for man, but for the LORD God. |
| 2 Io pertanto, senza risparmiarmi, ho preparato, per il tempio del mio Dio oro per le suppellettili d’oro, argento per le suppellettili d’argento, bronzo per le suppellettili di bronzo, ferro per le suppellettili di ferro, legno per le suppellettili di legno; di più, onici con castoni, malachite e pietre variegate: insomma ogni genere di pietre preziose e marmo in grande quantità. | 2 For this reason I have stored up for the house of my God, as far as I was able, gold for what will be made of gold, silver for what will be made of silver, bronze for what will be made of bronze, iron for what will be made of iron, wood for what will be made of wood, onyx stones and settings for them, carnelian and mosaic stones, every other kind of precious stone, and great quantities of marble. |
| 3 Inoltre, per il mio affetto verso il tempio del mio Dio — possiedo anche beni in oro e argento! — io dono per il tempio del mio Dio, oltre quanto: ho già preparato per il santuario: | 3 But now, because of the delight I take in the house of my God, in addition to all that I stored up for the holy house, I give to the house of my God my personal fortune in gold and silver: |
| 4 tremila talenti d’oro dell’oro di Ofir e settemila talenti. d’argento raffinato per rivestire le pareti degli edifici, | 4 three thousand talents of Ophir gold, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, for overlaying the walls of the rooms, |
| 5 per l’oro necessario per le.suppellettili d’oro e per l’argento necessario per le suppellettili d’argento e per ogni lavoro da compiersi per mezzo degli artefici. Chi dunque oggi è pronto a riempire la sua mano per offrire doni a Jahve? ». | 5 for the various utensils to be made of gold and silver, and for every work that is to be done by artisans. Now, who else is willing to contribute generously this day to the LORD?" |
| 6 Allora i capicasata, i capitribù di Israele, i capi di mille e di cento e gli alti funzionari al servizio del re, con un’offerta spontanea, | 6 Then the heads of the families, the leaders of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the overseers of the king's affairs came forward willingly |
| 7 diedero per la costruzione del tempio di Dio cinquemila talenti d’oro, diecimila darici, diecimila talenti d’argento, diciottomila talenti di bronzo e centomila talenti di ferro. | 7 and contributed for the service of the house of God five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron. |
| 8 Chiunque possedeva pietre preziose le consegnò in mano a Jekhiel il Ghershonita per il tesoro del tempio di Jahve. | 8 Those who had precious stones gave them into the keeping of Jehiel the Gershonite for the treasury of the house of the LORD. |
| 9 Il popolo si rallegrò per la loro liberalità; essi infatti avevano presentato le loro offerte a Jahve con tutto cuore; non solo, ma anche il re David gioì grandemente. | 9 The people rejoiced over these free-will offerings, which had been contributed to the LORD wholeheartedly. King David also rejoiced greatly. |
| 10 David allora benedisse Jahve innanzi a tutta l’assemblea, esclamando: « Tu sei benedetto, Jahve Dio di Israele nostro padre di eternità in eternità! | 10 Then David blessed the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly, praying in these words: "Blessed may you be, O LORD, God of Israel our father, from eternity to eternity. |
| 11 Tue, o Jahve, sono la grandezza e la potenza, lo splendore, la gloria e la maestà; perchè quanto stanei cieli e sulla terra è uo. Tuo, o Jahve, è il regno e tu sei colui che si erge come capo sopra tutti. | 11 "Yours, O LORD, are grandeur and power, majesty, splendor, and glory. For all in heaven and on earth is yours; yours, O LORD, is the sovereignty; you are exalted as head over all. |
| 12 La ricchezza e la dignità procedono da te; tu domini sopra ogni cosa; nella tua mano ci sono forza e potenza e nella tua mano il potere di rendere grande e forte ogni cosa. | 12 "Riches and honor are from you, and you have dominion over all. In your hand are power and might; it is yours to give grandeur and strength to all. |
| 13 Ora, nostro Dio, noi ti celebriamo e inneggiamo al tuo nome splendido. | 13 Therefore, our God, we give you thanks and we praise the majesty of your name." |
| 14 Chi sono dunque io e chi è il mio popolo perchè siamo capaci di presentarti liberamente qualche offerta! Tutto proviene da te e ciò che abbiamo ricevuto dalla tua mano te lo abbiamo dato. | 14 "But who am I, and who are my people, that we should have the means to contribute so freely? For everything is from you, and we only give you what we have received from you. |
| 15 Noi, infatti, siamo forestieri innanzi a te e avventizi, come furono tutti i nostri padri. I nostri giorni sulla terra sono come un’ombra e senza speranza. | 15 For we stand before you as aliens: we are only your guests, like all our fathers. Our life on earth is like a shadow that does not abide. |
| 16 O Jahve nostro Dio, tutta questa abbondanza che noi abbiamo preparato per edificarti una casa per il tuo santo nome proviene dalla tua mano ed è tutta tua. | 16 O LORD our God, all this wealth that we have brought together to build you a house in honor of your holy name comes from you and is entirely yours. |
| 17 lo so, mio Dio, che tu scruti il cuore e ti compiaci della rettitudine. Ebbene, con cuore retto io ho offerto liberamente tutte queste cose e ora constato come il popolo che è qui ti presenta con gioia le sue libere offerte. | 17 I know, O my God, that you put hearts to the test and that you take pleasure in uprightness. With a sincere heart I have willingly given all these things, and now with joy I have seen your people here present also giving to you generously. |
| 18 Jahve Dio d’Abramo, di Isacco e di Israele, nostri padri, conserva una tale disposizione per sempre nei pensieri, che si vanno formando nell’animo del tuo popolo, e dirigi il loro cuore verso di te! | 18 O LORD, God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, keep such thoughts in the hearts and minds of your people forever, and direct their hearts toward you. |
| 19 A Salomone mio figlio concedi un cuore perfetto; ed egli custodirà i tuoi comandamenti, i tuoi precetti, i tuoi statuti, li metterà tutti in pratica ed edificherà la casa che ho preparato ». | 19 Give to my son Solomon a wholehearted desire to keep your commandments, precepts, and statutes, that he may carry out all these plans and build the castle for which I have made preparation." |
| 20 Poi David disse a tutta l’assemblea: « Orsù, benedite Jahve vostro Dio! ». L’intera assemblea benedisse Jahve, Dio dei padri, si inchinò e si prostrò innanzi a Jahve e al re. | 20 Then David besought the whole assembly, "Now bless the LORD your God!" And the whole assembly blessed the LORD, the God of their fathers, bowing down and prostrating themselves before the LORD and before the king. |
| 21 Quindi immolarono vittime e offrirono, il giorno dopo, in olocausto a Jahve mille giovenchi, mille montoni, mille agnelli con le relative libazioni e anche una grande quantità di vittime per tutto Israele. | 21 On the following day they offered sacrifices and holocausts to the LORD, a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, together with their libations and many other sacrifices for all Israel; |
| 22 Quel giorno pertanto mangiarono e bevvero innanzi a Jahve con grande letizia, proclamarono re Salomone, figlio di David e unsero lui principe: e Zadok sacerdote. | 22 and on that day they ate and drank in the LORD'S presence with great rejoicing. Then for a second time they proclaimed David's son Solomon king, and they anointed him as the LORD'S prince, and Zadok as priest. |
| 23 Al lora Salomone sedette sul trono di Jahve al posto di David suo padre. Fu fortunato e tutto Israele gli ubbidì. | 23 Thereafter Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king in place of his father David; he prospered, and all Israel obeyed him. |
| 24 Tutti i capi, i prodi e anche tutti i figli del re David promisero fedeltà a Salomone re. | 24 All the leaders and warriors, and also all the other sons of King David, swore allegiance to King Solomon. |
| 25 Jahve poi rese grande Salomone al cospetto di tutto Israele, concedendogli una maestà regale che nessun re di Israele aveva posseduto prima di lui. | 25 And the LORD exalted Solomon greatly in the eyes of all Israel, giving him a glorious reign such as had not been enjoyed by any king over Israel before him. |
| 26 David, figlio di Jesse, regnò su tutto Israele, | 26 Thus David, the son of Jesse, had reigned over all Israel. |
| 27 Il tempo in cui regnò su Israele fu di quarant’anni; a Hebron regnò sette anni e a Gerusalemme trentatrè. | 27 The time that he reigned over Israel was forty years: in Hebron he reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem thirty-three. |
| 28 Morì in felice vecchiaia, sazio di giorni, di ricchezza è di onore. Salomone suo figlio regnò al suo posto. | 28 He died at a ripe old age, rich in years and wealth and glory, and his son Solomon succeeded him as king. |

| 30 insieme con tutto ciò che riguarda il suo regno, il suo valore e gli eventi che si avvicendarono su di lui, su Israele e su tutti i regni dei vari paesi. | 30 together with the particulars of his reign and valor, and of the events that affected him and all Israel and all the kingdoms of the surrounding lands. |
