1 Bildad de Shuah prit la parole et dit:	1 Bildad the Shuhite spoke out and said:
2 Jusqu'à quand parleras-tu de la sorte et tiendras-tu des propos semblables à un grand vent?	2 How long will you utter such things? The words from your mouth are like a mighty wind!
3 Dieu peut-il fléchir le droit, Shaddaï fausser la justice?	3 Does God pervert judgment, and does the Almighty distort justice?
4 Si tes fils ont péché contre lui, il les a punis pour leurs fautes.	4 If your children have sinned against him and he has left them in the grip of their guilt,
5 Recherche Dieu, implore Shaddaï.	5 Still, if you yourself have recourse to God and make supplication to the Almighty,
6 Pour toi, si tu es irréprochable et droit, Dès maintenant, sa lumière brillera sur toi et il restaurera lamaison d'un juste.	6 Should you be blameless and upright, surely now he will awake for you and restore your rightful domain;
7 Ta condition ancienne te paraîtra comme rien, si grand sera ton avenir.	7 Your former state will be of little moment, for in time to come you will flourish indeed.
8 Interroge la génération passée, médite sur l'expérience acquise par ses pères.	8 If you inquire of the former generations, and give heed to the experience of the fathers
9 Nous, nés d'hier, nous ne savons rien, notre vie sur terre passe comme une ombre.	9 (As we are but of yesterday and have no knowledge, because our days on earth are but a shadow),
10 Mais eux, ils t'instruiront, te parleront, et leur pensée livrera ces sentences:	10 Will they not teach you and tell you and utter their words of understanding?
11 "Le papyrus pousse-t-il hors des marais? Privé d'eau, le jonc peut-il croître?	11 Can the papyrus grow up without mire? Can the reed grass flourish without water?
12 Quand il est encore dans sa fraîcheur et non cueilli, avant toute autre herbe il se dessèche.	12 While it is yet green and uncut, it withers quicker than any grass.
13 Tel est le sort de ceux qui oublient Dieu, ainsi périt l'espoir de l'impie.	13 So is the end of everyone who forgets God, and so shall the hope of the godless man perish.
14 Sa confiance n'est que filandre, sa sécurité, une maison d'araignée.	14 His confidence is but a gossamer thread and his trust is a spider's web.
15 S'appuie-t-il sur sa demeure, elle cède; s'y cramponne-t-il, elle s'écroule.	15 He shall rely upon his family, but it shall not last; he shall cling to it, but it shall not endure.
16 Plein de sève au soleil, au-dessus du jardin il lançait ses jeunes pousses.	16 He is full of sap before sunrise, and beyond his garden his shoots go forth;
17 Ses racines entrelacées sur un tertre pierreux, il puisait sa vie au milieu des rochers.	17 About a heap of stones are his roots entwined; among the rocks he takes hold.
18 On l'arrache de son lieu; son lieu le renie: Je ne t'ai jamais vu!	18 Yet if one tears him from his place, it will disown him: "I have never seen you!"
19 Et le voilà pourrissant sur le chemin, tandis que du sol, d'autres germent.	19 There he lies rotting beside the road, and out of the soil another sprouts.
20 Non, Dieu ne rejette pas l'homme intègre, il ne prête pas main-forte aux méchants.	20 Behold, God will not cast away the upright; neither will he take the hand of the wicked.
21 Le rire peut de nouveau remplir ta bouche, la joie éclater sur tes lèvres.	21 Once more will he fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with rejoicing.
22 Tes ennemis seront couverts de honte, et la tente des méchants disparaîtra."	22 They that hate you shall be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked shall be no more.
