Proverbios 6

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Si has salido, hijo mío, fiador de tu prójimo, si has chocado tu mano con un extraño,	1 My child, if you have gone surety for your neighbour, if you have guaranteed the bond of a stranger,
2 si te has obligado con las palabras de tu boca, si de la palabra de tu boca te has dejado prender,	2 if you have committed yourself with your lips, if through words of yours you have been entrapped,
3 haz esto, hijo mío, para quedar libre, pues has caído en manos de tu prójimo: Vete, póstrate, importuna a tu prójimo;	3 do this, my child, to extricate yourself -- since you have put yourself in the power of your neighbour: go,humble yourself, plead with your neighbour,
4 no concedas a tus ojos sueño ni a tus párpados reposo;	4 give your eyes no sleep, your eyelids no rest,
5 líbrate, como la gacela del lazo, como el pájaro de la mano del pajarero.	5 break free like a gazel e from the trap, like a bird from the fowler's clutches.
6 Vete donde la hormiga, perezoso, mira sus andanzas y te harás sabio.	6 Idler, go to the ant; ponder her ways and grow wise:
7 Ella no tiene jefe, ni capataz, ni amo;	7 no one gives her orders, no overseer, no master,
8 asegura en el verano su sustento, recoge su comida al tiempo de la mies.	8 yet al through the summer she gets her food ready, and gathers her supplies at harvest time.
9 ¿Hasta cuándo, perezoso, estarás acostado? ¿cuándo te levantarás de tu sueño?	9 How long do you intend to lie there, idler? When are you going to rise from your sleep?
10 Un poco dormir, otro poco dormitar, otro poco tumbarse con los brazos cruzados;	10 A little sleep, a little drowsiness, a little folding of the arms to lie back,
11 y llegará como vagabundo tu miseria y como un mendigo tu pobreza.	11 and poverty comes like a vagrant and, like a beggar, dearth.
12 Un malvado, un hombre inicuo, anda con la boca torcida,	12 A scoundrel, a vicious man, he goes with a leer on his lips,
13 guiña el ojo, arrastra los pies, hace señas con los dedos.	13 winking his eye, shuffling his foot, beckoning with his finger.
14 Torcido está su corazón, medita el mal, pleitos siembra en todo tiempo.	14 Trickery in his heart, always scheming evil, he sows dissension.
15 Por eso vendrá su ruina de repente, de improviso quebrará, y no habrá remedio.	15 Disaster wil overtake him sharply for this, suddenly, irretrievably, he wil be broken.
16 Seis cosas hay que aborrece Yahveh, y siete son abominación para su alma:	16 There are six things that Yahweh hates, seven that he abhors:
17 ojos altaneros, lengua mentirosa, manos que derraman sangre inocente,	17 a haughty look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
18 corazón que fragua planes perversos, pies que ligeros corren hacia el mal,	18 a heart that weaves wicked plots, feet that hurry to do evil,
19 testigo falso que profiere calumnias, y el que siembra pleitos entre los hermanos.	19 a false witness who lies with every breath, and one who sows dissension among brothers.
20 Garda, hijo mío, el mandato de tu padre y no desprecies la lección de tu madre.	20 Keep your father's precept, my child, do not spurn your mother's teaching.
21 Tenlos atados siempre a tu corazón, enlázalos a tu cuello;	21 Bind them ever to your heart, tie them round your neck.
22 en tus pasos ellos serán tu guía; cuando te acuestes, velarán por ti; conversarán contigo al despertar.	22 While you are active, they will guide you, when you fal asleep, they wil watch over you, when youwake up, they will converse with you.
23 Porque el mandato es una lámpara y la lección una luz; camino de vida los reproches y la instrucción,	23 For the precept is a lamp, the teaching is a light; correction and discipline are the way to life,
24 para librarte de la mujer perversa, de la lengua suave de la extraña.	24 preserving you from the woman of bad character, from the wheedling talk of a woman who belongs toanother.
25 No codicies su hermosura en tu corazón, no te cautive con sus párpados,	25 Do not covet her beauty in your heart or let her captivate you with the play of her eyes;
26 porque un mendrugo de pan basta a la prostituta, pero la casada va a la caza de una vida preciosa.	26 a prostitute can be bought for a hunk of bread, but a married woman aims to snare a precious life.
27 ¿Puede uno meter fuego en su regazo sin que le ardan los vestidos?	27 Can a man carry fire inside his shirt without setting his clothes alight?
28 ¿Puede uno andar sobre las brasas sin que se le quemen los pies?	28 Can you walk on red-hot coals without burning your feet?
29 Así le pasa al que se llega a la mujer del prójimo: no saldrá ileso ninguno que la toque.	29 Just so, the man who makes love to his neighbour's wife: no one who touches her wil get offunpunished.
30 No se desprecia al ladrón cuando roba para llenar su estómago, porque tiene hambre.	30 People attach but little blame to a thief who steals only to satisfy his hunger;
31 Mas, si le sorprenden, paga el séptuplo, tiene que dar todos los bienes de su casa.	31 yet even he, if caught, wil have to repay sevenfold and hand over all his family resources.
32 Pero el que hace adulterar a una mujer es un mentecato; un suicida es el que lo hace;	32 But the adulterer has no sense; he works his own destruction.
33 encontrará golpes y deshonra y su vergüenza no se borrará.	33 All he wil get is blows and contempt, and dishonour never to be blotted out.
34 Porque los celos enfurecen al marido. y no tendrá piedad el día de la venganza.	34 For jealousy inflames the husband who wil show no mercy when the day comes for revenge;
35 No hará caso de compensación alguna; aunque prodigues regalos, no aceptará.	35 he wil not consider any compensation; lavish what gifts you may, he wil not be placated.
