SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 O filho sábio é a alegria de seu pai; o insensato, porém, a aflição de sua mãe.	1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise child is a father's joy, a foolish child a mother's grief.
2 Tesouros mal adquiridos de nada servem, mas a justiça livra da morte.	2 Treasures wickedly come by give no benefit, but uprightness brings delivery from death.
3 O Senhor não deixa o justo passar fome, mas repele a cobiça do ímpio.	3 Yahweh does not let the upright go hungry, but he thwarts the greed of the wicked.
4 A mão preguiçosa causa a indigência; a mão diligente se enriquece.	4 A slack hand brings poverty, but the hand of the diligent brings wealth.
5 Quem recolhe no verão é um filho prudente; quem dorme na ceifa merece a vergonha.	5 Reaping at harvest-time is the mark of the prudent, sleeping at harvest-time is the sign of theworthless.
6 As bênçãos descansam sobre a cabeça do justo, mas a boca dos maus oculta a injustiça.	6 Blessings are on the head of the upright, but the mouth of the godless is a cover for violence.
7 A memória do justo alcança as bênçãos; o nome dos ímpios apodrecerá.	7 The upright is remembered with blessings, the name of the wicked rots away.
8 O sábio de coração recebe os preceitos, mas o insensato caminha para a ruína.	8 The wise of heart takes orders, but a gabbling fool heads for ruin.
9 Quem anda na integridade caminha com segurança, mas quem emprega astúcias será descoberto.	9 Anyone whose ways are honourable walks secure, but whoever fol ows crooked ways is soonunmasked.
10 Quem pisca os olhos traz desgosto, mas o que repreende com franqueza procura a paz.	10 A wink of the eye brings trouble, a bold rebuke brings peace.
11 A boca do justo é uma fonte de vida; a do ímpio, porém, esconde injustiça.	11 The mouth of the upright is a life-giving fountain, but the mouth of the godless is a cover for violence.
12 O ódio desperta rixas; a caridade, porém, supre todas as faltas.	12 Hatred provokes disputes, but love excuses al offences.
13 Nos lábios do sábio encontra-se a sabedoria; no dorso do insensato a correção.	13 On the lips of the discerning is found wisdom, on the back of a fool, the stick.
14 Os sábios entesouram a sabedoria, mas a boca do tolo é uma desgraça sempre ameaçadora.	14 Wise people store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool makes ruin imminent.
15 A fortuna do rico é a sua cidade forte; a pobreza dos indigentes ocasiona-lhes ruína.	15 The wealth of the rich is their stronghold, poverty is the undoing of the weak.
16 O salário do justo é para a vida; o fruto do ímpio produz o pecado.	16 The wage of the upright affords life, but sin is al the wicked earns.
17 O que observa a disciplina está no caminho da vida; anda errado o que esquece a repressão.	17 Whoever abides by discipline, walks towards life, whoever ignores correction goes astray.
18 Quem dissimula o ódio é um mistificador; um insensato o que profere calúnias.	18 Liars' lips are a cover for hatred, whoever utters slander is a fool.
19 Não pode faltar o pecado num caudal de palavras; quem modera os lábios é um homem prudente.	19 A flood of words is never without fault; whoever controls the lips is wise.
20 A língua do justo é prata finíssima; o coração dos maus, porém, para nada serve.	20 The tongue of the upright is purest silver, the heart of the wicked is of trumpery value.
21 Os lábios dos justos nutrem a muitos; mas os néscios perecem por falta de inteligência.	21 The lips of the upright nourish many peoples, but fools die for want of sense.
22 É a bênção do Senhor que enriquece; o labor nada acrescenta a ela.	22 The blessing of Yahweh is what brings riches, to this, hard toil has nothing to add.
23 É um divertimento para o ímpio praticar o mal; e para o sensato, ser sábio.	23 A fool takes pleasure in doing wrong, the intel igent in cultivating wisdom.
24 O que receia o mal, este cai sobre ele. O desejo do justo lhe é concedido.	24 What the wicked fears overtakes him, what the upright desires comes to him as a present.
25 Quando passa a tormenta, desaparece o perverso, mas o justo descansa sobre fundamentos duráveis.	25 When the storm is over, the wicked is no more, but the upright stands firm for ever.
26 Como o vinagre nos dentes e a fumaça nos olhos, assim é o preguiçoso para os que o mandam.	26 As vinegar to the teeth, smoke to the eyes, so the sluggard to the one who sends him.
27 O temor do Senhor prolonga os dias, mas os anos dos ímpios serão abreviados.	27 The fear of Yahweh adds length to life, the years of the wicked wil be cut short.
28 A expectativa dos justos causa alegria; a esperança dos ímpios, porém, perecerá.	28 The hope of the upright is joy, the expectations of the wicked come to nothing.
29 Para o homem íntegro o Senhor é uma fortaleza, mas é a ruína dos que fazem o mal.	29 The way of Yahweh is a rampart for the honest, for evil-doers nothing but ruin.
30 Jamais o justo será abalado, mas os ímpios não habitarão a terra.	30 The upright wil never have to give way, but the land wil offer no home for the wicked.
31 A boca do justo produz sabedoria, mas a língua perversa será arrancada.	31 The mouth of the upright utters wisdom, the tongue that deceives wil be cut off.
32 Os lábios do justo sabem dizer o que é agradável; a boca dos maus, o que é mal.	32 The lips of the upright know about kindness, the mouth of the wicked about deceit.
