NOVA VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
'Write to the angel of the church in Sardis and say, "Here is the message of the one who holds theseven spirits of God and the seven stars: I know about your behaviour: how you are reputed to be alive and yetare dead.
Esto vigilans et confirma cetera,quae moritura erant, non enim invenio opera tua plena coram Deo meo;2 Wake up; put some resolve into what little vigour you have left: it is dying fast. So far I have failed tonotice anything in your behaviour that my God could possibly cal perfect;
in menteergo habe qualiter acceperis et audieris, et serva et paenitentiam age. Si ergonon vigilaveris, veniam tamquam fur, et nescies qua hora veniam ad te.3 remember how you first heard the message. Hold on to that. Repent! If you do not wake up, I shalcome to you like a thief, and you wil have no idea at what hour I shal come upon you.
There are a few in Sardis, it is true, who have kept their robes unstained, and they are fit to come withme, dressed in white.
Anyone who proves victorious wil be dressed, like these, in white robes; I shal not blot that name outof the book of life, but acknowledge it in the presence of my Father and his angels.
Qui habet aurem, audiat quid Spiritus dicat ecclesiis.
Let anyone who can hear, listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches."
'Write to the angel of the church in Philadelphia and say, "Here is the message of the holy and true onewho has the key of David, so that when he opens, no one wil close, and when he closes, no one wil open:
Scio opera tua — ecce dedi coram te ostiumapertum, quod nemo potest claudere — quia modicam habes virtutem, et servastiverbum meum et non negasti nomen meum.8 I know about your activities. Look, I have opened in front of you a door that no one will be able to close-- and I know that though you are not very strong, you have kept my commandments and not disowned myname.
I am going to make the synagogue of Satan -- those who falsely claim to be Jews, but are liars, because they are no such thing -- I wil make them come and fal at your feet and recognize that I have lovedyou.
Quoniamservasti verbum patientiae meae, et ego te servabo ab hora tentationis, quaeventura est super orbem universum tentare habitantes in terra.10 Because you have kept my commandment to persevere, I wil keep you safe in the time of trial whichis coming for the whole world, to put the people of the world to the test.
Venio cito;tene quod habes, ut nemo accipiat coronam tuam.11 I am coming soon: hold firmly to what you already have, and let no one take your victor's crown awayfrom you.
Anyone who proves victorious I wil make into a pillar in the sanctuary of my God, and it wil stay therefor ever; I wil inscribe on it the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem which is coming down from my God in heaven, and my own new name as wel .
Qui habet aurem, audiat quid Spiritus dicat ecclesiis.
Let anyone who can hear, listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches."
Et angelo ecclesiae, quae est Laodiciae, scribe:
Haec dicit Amen, testis fidelis et verus, principium creaturae Dei:
'Write to the angel of the church in Laodicea and say, "Here is the message of the Amen, thetrustworthy, the true witness, the Principle of God's creation:
Scioopera tua, quia neque frigidus es neque calidus. Utinam frigidus esses autcalidus!15 I know about your activities: how you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were one or the other,
Sic quia tepidus es et nec calidus nec frigidus, incipiam te evomereex ore meo.16 but since you are neither hot nor cold, but only lukewarm, I will spit you out of my mouth.
Quia dicis: “Dives sum et locupletatus et nullius egeo”, etnescis quia tu es miser et miserabilis et pauper et caecus et nudus,17 You say to yourself: I am rich, I have made a fortune and have everything I want, never realising thatyou are wretchedly and pitiably poor, and blind and naked too.
suadeotibi emere a me aurum igne probatum, ut locuples fias et vestimentis albisinduaris, et non appareat confusio nuditatis tuae, et collyrium ad inunguendumoculos tuos, ut videas.18 I warn you, buy from me the gold that has been tested in the fire to make you truly rich, and whiterobes to clothe you and hide your shameful nakedness, and ointment to put on your eyes to enable you to see.
Ego, quos amo, arguo et castigo. Aemulare ergo etpaenitentiam age.19 I reprove and train those whom I love: so repent in real earnest.
Ecce sto ad ostium et pulso. Si quis audierit vocem meam etaperuerit ianuam, introibo ad illum et cenabo cum illo, et ipse mecum.20 Look, I am standing at the door, knocking. If one of you hears me cal ing and opens the door, I wilcome in to share a meal at that person's side.
Anyone who proves victorious I wil al ow to share my throne, just as I have myself overcome andhave taken my seat with my Father on his throne.
Qui habet aurem, audiat quid Spiritus dicat ecclesiis ”.
Let anyone who can hear, listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches." '
