1 Post hanc plagam dixit Do minus ad Moysen et Eleaza rum filium Aaron sacerdotem:	1 After this plague, Yahweh spoke to Moses and to the priest Eleazar son of Aaron and said:
2 “ Numerate summam totius congregationis filiorum Israel a viginti annis et supra per domos et cognationes suas, cunctos, qui possunt ad bella procedere ”.	2 'Take a census of the whole community of Israelites, by families: al those of twenty years and over, fitto bear arms in Israel.'
3 Locuti sunt itaque Moyses et Eleazar sacerdos in campestribus Moab super Iordanem contra Iericho ad eos, qui erant	3 So Moses and the priest Eleazar took a census of them on the Plains of Moab, near the Jordan byJericho. They counted
4 a viginti annis et supra, sicut Dominus imperaverat Moysi. Filiorum Israel, qui egressi sunt de terra Aegypti, iste est numerus.	4 (as Yahweh had ordered Moses and the Israelites after leaving Egypt) men of twenty years and over:
5 Ruben primogenitus Israel. Huius filius Henoch, a quo familia Henochitarum, et Phallu, a quo familia Phalluitarum,	5 Reuben, the first-born of Israel. The sons of Reuben: for Hanoch, the Hanochite clan; for Pal u, thePal uite clan;
6 et Hesron, a quo familia Hesronitarum, et Charmi, a quo familia Charmitarum.	6 for Hezron, the Hezronite clan; for Carmi, the Carmite clan.
7 Hae sunt familiae de stirpe Ruben, quarum numerus inventus est quadraginta tria milia et septingenti triginta.	7 These were the Reubenite clans. They numbered forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty men.
8 Filius Phallu: Eliab.	8 The sons of Pallu: Eliab.
9 Huius filii: Namuel et Dathan et Abiram. Isti sunt Dathan et Abiram principes populi, qui surrexerunt contra Moysen et Aaron in seditione Core, quando adversus Dominum rebellaverunt,	9 The sons of Eliab: Nemuel, Dathan and Abiram. These two, Dathan and Abiram, men of repute in thecommunity, were the ones who revolted against Moses and Aaron; they belonged to Korah's group when itrevolted against Yahweh.
10 et aperiens terra os suum devoravit eos et Core, morientibus plurimis, quando combussit ignis ducentos quinquaginta viros; et facti sunt in signum.	10 The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them (with Korah when that group perished), when fireconsumed the two hundred and fifty men. They were a sign.
11 Core pereunte, filii illius non perierunt.	11 Korah's sons, however, did not perish.
12 Filii Simeon per cognationes suas: Namuel, ab hoc familia Namuelitarum; Iamin, ab hoc familia Iaminitarum; Iachin, ab hoc familia Iachinitarum;	12 The sons of Simeon by clans: for Nemuel, the Nemuelite clan; for Jamin, the Jaminite clan; forJachin, the Jachinite clan;
13 Zara, ab hoc familia Zaraitarum; Saul, ab hoc familia Saulitarum.	13 for Zerah, the Zerahite clan; for Shaul, the Shaulite clan.
14 Hae sunt familiae de stirpe Simeon, quarum omnis numerus fuit viginti duo milia ducenti.	14 These were the Simeonite clans. They numbered twenty-two thousand two hundred men.
15 Filii Gad per cognationes suas: Sephon, ab hoc familia Sephonitarum; Haggi, ab hoc familia Haggitarum; Suni, ab hoc familia Sunitarum;	15 The sons of Gad by clans: for Zephon, the Zephonite clan; for Haggi, the Haggite clan; for Shuni, theShunite clan;
16 Ozni, ab hoc familia Oznitarum; Heri, ab hoc familia Heritarum;	16 for Ozni, the Oznite clan; for Eri, the Erite clan;
17 Arodi, ab hoc familia Aroditarum; Areli, ab hoc familia Arelitarum.	17 for Arod, the Arodite clan; for Areli, the Arelite clan.
18 Istae sunt familiae Gad, quarum omnis numerus fuit quadraginta milia quingenti.	18 These were the clans of the sons of Gad. They numbered forty thousand five hundred men.
19 Filii Iudae Her et Onan, qui ambo mortui sunt in terra Chanaan.	19 The sons of Judah: Er and Onan. Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan.
20 Fueruntque filii Iudae per cognationes suas: Sela, a quo familia Selanitarum; Phares, a quo familia Pharesitarum; Zara, a quo familia Zaraitarum.	20 The other sons of Judah became clans: for Shelah, the Shelahite clan; for Perez, the Perezzite clan;for Zerah, the Zerahite clan.
21 Porro filii Phares: Esrom, a quo familia Esromitarum; et Hamul, a quo familia Hamulitarum.	21 The sons of Perez were: for Hezron, the Hezronite clan; for Hamul, the Hamulite clan.
22 Istae sunt familiae Iudae, quarum omnis numerus fuit septuaginta sex milia quingenti.	22 These were the clans of Judah. They numbered seventy-six thousand five hundred men.
23 Filii Issachar per cognationes suas: Thola, a quo familia Tholaitarum; Phua, a quo familia Phuaitarum;	23 The sons of Issachar by clans: for Tola, the Tolaite clan; for Puvah, the Puvahite clan;
24 Iasub, a quo familia Iasubitarum; Semron, a quo familia Semronitarum.	24 for Jashub, the Jashubite clan; for Shimron, the Shimronite clan.
25 Hae sunt cognationes Issachar, quarum numerus fuit sexaginta quattuor milia trecenti.	25 These were the clans of Issachar. They numbered sixty-four thousand three hundred men.
26 Filii Zabulon per cognationes suas: Sared, a quo familia Sareditarum; Elon, a quo familia Elonitarum; Iahelel, a quo familia Iahelelitarum.	26 The sons of Zebulun by clans: for Sered, the Seredite clan; for Elon, the Elonite clan; for Jahleel, theJahleelite clan.
27 Hae sunt cognationes Zabulon, quarum numerus fuit sexaginta milia quingenti.	27 These were the clans of Zebulun. They numbered sixty thousand five hundred men.
28 Filii Ioseph per cognationes suas: Manasse et Ephraim.	28 The sons of Joseph by clans: Manasseh and Ephraim.
29 De Manasse ortus est Machir, a quo familia Machiritarum; Machir genuit Galaad, a quo familia Galaaditarum.	29 The sons of Manasseh: for Machir, the Machirite clan; Machir fathered Gilead: for Gilead, theGileadite clan.
30 Galaad habuit filios: Iezer, a quo familia Iezeritarum; et Helec, a quo familia Helecitarum;	30 These were the sons of Gilead: for Iezer, the Iezerite clan; for Helek, the Helekite clan;
31 et Asriel, a quo familia Asrielitarum; et Sechem, a quo familia Sechemitarum;	31 Asriel, the Asrielite clan; Shechem, the Shechemite clan;

33 Fuit autem Hepher pater Salphaad, qui filios non habebat sed tantum filias, quarum ista sunt nomina: Maala et Noa et Hegla et Melcha et Thersa.	33 Zelophehad son of Hepher had no sons, only daughters; the names of Zelophehad's daughterswere Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah.
34 Hae sunt familiae Manasse, et numerus earum quinquaginta duo milia septingenti.	34 These were the clans of Manasseh. They numbered fifty-two thousand seven hundred men.
35 Filii autem Ephraim per cognationes suas fuerunt hi: Suthala, a quo familia Suthalaitarum; Becher, a quo familia Becheritarum; Thehen, a quo familia Thehenitarum.	35 These were the sons of Ephraim by clans: for Shuthelah, the Shuthelahite clan; for Becher, theBecherite clan; for Tahan, the Tahanite clan.
36 Porro filius Suthala fuit Heran, a quo familia Heranitarum.	36 These were the sons of Shuthelah: for Eran, the Eranite clan.
37 Hae sunt cognationes filiorum Ephraim, quarum numerus fuit triginta duo milia quingenti. Isti sunt filii Ioseph per familias suas.	37 These were the clans of Ephraim. They numbered thirty-two thousand five hundred men. Thesewere the sons of Joseph by clans.
38 Filii Beniamin in cognationibus suis: Bela, a quo familia Belaitarum; Asbel, a quo familia Asbelitarum; Ahiram, a quo familia Ahiramitarum;	38 The sons of Benjamin by clans: for Bela, the Belaite clan; for Ashbel, the Ashbelite clan; for Ahiram,the Ahiramite clan;
39 Supham, a quo familia Suphamitarum; Hupham, a quo familia Huphamitarum.	39 for Shephupham, the Shephuphamite clan; for Hupham, the Huphamite clan.
40 Filii Bela: Ared et Naaman; de Ared familia Areditarum, de Naaman familia Naamanitarum.	40 Bela's sons were Ard and Naaman; for Ard, the Ardite clan; for Naaman, the Naamanite clan.
41 Hi sunt filii Beniamin per cognationes suas, quorum numerus fuit quadraginta quinque milia sescenti.	41 These were the sons of Benjamin by clans. They numbered forty-five thousand six hundred men.
42 Filii Dan per cognationes suas: Suham, a quo familia Suhamitarum. Hae sunt cognationes Dan per familias suas:	42 These were the sons of Dan by clans: for Shuham, the Shuhamite clan. These were the sons of Danby clans.
43 omnes fuere Suhamitae, quorum numerus erat sexaginta quattuor milia quadringenti.	43 All the Shuhamite clans numbered sixty-four thousand four hundred men.
44 Filii Aser per cognationes suas: Iemna, a quo familia Iemnaitarum; Isui, a quo familia Isuitarum; Beria, a quo familia Beriaitarum.	44 The sons of Asher by clans: for Imnah, the Imnahite clan; for Ishvi, the Ishvihite clan; for Beriah, theBeriahite clan.
45 Filii Beria: Heber, a quo familia Heberitarum, et Melchiel a quo familia Melchielitarum.	45 For the sons of Beriah: for Heber, the Heberite clan; for Malchiel, the Malchielite clan.
46 Nomen autem filiae Aser fuit Sara.	46 The daughter of Asher was called Serah.
47 Hae cognationes filiorum Aser, et numerus eorum quinquaginta tria milia quadringenti.	47 These were the clans of Asher. They numbered fifty-three thousand four hundred men.
48 Filii Nephthali per cognationes suas: Iasiel, a quo familia Iasielitarum; Guni, a quo familia Gunitarum;	48 The sons of Naphtali by clans: for Jahzeel, the Jahzeelite clan; for Guni, the Gunite clan;
49 Ieser, a quo familia Ieseritarum; Sellem, a quo familia Sellemitarum.	49 for Jezer, the Jezerite clan; for Shil em, the Shil emite clan.
50 Hae sunt cognationes filiorum Nephthali per familias suas, quorum numerus quadraginta quinque milia quadringenti.	50 These were the clans of Naphtali as divided into clans. The sons of Naphtali numbered forty-fivethousand four hundred men.
51 Ista est summa filiorum Israel qui recensiti sunt: sescenta milia et mille septingenti triginta.	51 Of the Israelites thus numbered, there were six hundred and one thousand seven hundred and thirtymen.
52 Locutusque est Dominus ad Moysen dicens:	52 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and said,
53 “ Istis dividetur terra iuxta numerum vocabulorum in possessiones suas.	53 'The country must be shared out among these as a heritage, proportionately to the number of thoseinscribed.
54 Pluribus maiorem partem dabis et paucioribus minorem: singulis, sicut nunc recensiti sunt, tradetur possessio;	54 To the large in number you wil give a large area of land, to the smal in number a small area; toeach the heritage wil be in proportion to the number registered.
55 ita dumtaxat, ut sors terram dividat. Secundum numerum tribuum patrum suorum hereditabunt.	55 The sharing out of the country must, however, be done by lot. Each wil receive a heritageproportionate to the number of names in their patriarchal tribes;
56 Quidquid sorte contigerit, hoc vel plures accipiant vel pauciores.	56 the heritage of each tribe wil be shared out by lot, depending on its larger or smal er numbers.'
57 Hic quoque est numerus filiorum Levi per familias suas: Gerson, a quo familia Gersonitarum; Caath, a quo familia Caathitarum; Merari, a quo familia Meraritarum.	57 These, by clans, are the Levites that were registered: for Gershon, the Gershonite clan; for Kohath,the Kohathite clan; for Merari, the Merarite clan.
58 Hae sunt familiae Levi: familia Lobni, familia Hebroni, familia Moholi, familia Musi, familia Core. At vero Caath genuit Amram,	58 These are the Levite clans: the Libnite clan, the Hebronite clan, the Mahlite clan, the Mushite clan,the Korahite clan. Kohath fathered Amram.
59 qui habuit uxorem Iochabed filiam Levi, quae nata est ei in Aegypto. Haec genuit Amram viro suo filios, Aaron et Moysen et Mariam sororem eorum.	59 Amram's wife was cal ed Jokebed daughter of Levi, born to him in Egypt. To Amram she boreAaron, Moses and Miriam their sister.
60 De Aaron orti sunt Nadab et Abiu et Eleazar et Ithamar,	60 Aaron fathered Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
61 quorum Nadab et Abiu mortui sunt, cum obtulissent ignem alienum coram Domino.	61 Nadab and Abihu died when they brought unauthorised fire before Yahweh.
62 Fueruntque omnes, qui numerati sunt, viginti tria milia generis masculini ab uno mense et supra; quia non sunt recensiti inter filios Israel, nec eis cum ceteris data possessio est.	62 Altogether twenty-three thousand males of one month and over were registered. They were notregistered with the Israelites, since they were given no heritage with the Israelites.
63 Hic est numerus filiorum Israel, qui descripti sunt a Moyse et Eleazaro sacerdote in campestribus Moab supra Iordanem contra Iericho;	63 Such were the men registered by Moses and the priest Eleazar who took a census of the Israeliteson the Plains of Moab near the Jordan by Jericho.
64 inter quos nullus fuit eorum, qui ante numerati sunt a Moyse et Aaron in deserto Sinai:	64 Not one of them was among those whom Moses and the priest Aaron had registered when theycounted the Israelites in the desert of Sinai;
65 praedixerat enim Dominus quod omnes morerentur in solitudine; nullusque remansit ex eis, nisi Chaleb filius Iephonne et Iosue filius Nun.	65 for Yahweh had told them that these were to die in the desert and that none of them would be leftexcept Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
