These two, Dathan and Abiram, men of repute in thecommunity, were the ones who revolted against Moses and Aaron; they belonged to Korah's group when itrevolted against Yahweh. |
10 et aperiens terra os suum devoravit eos et Core, morientibus plurimis, quando combussit ignis ducentos quinquaginta viros; et facti sunt in signum. | 10 The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them (with Korah when that group perished), when fireconsumed the two hundred and fifty men. They were a sign. |
11 Core pereunte, filii illius non perierunt. | 11 Korah's sons, however, did not perish. |

52 Locutusque est Dominus ad Moysen dicens: | 52 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and said, |
53 “ Istis dividetur terra iuxta numerum vocabulorum in possessiones suas. | 53 'The country must be shared out among these as a heritage, proportionately to the number of thoseinscribed. |
54 Pluribus maiorem partem dabis et paucioribus minorem: singulis, sicut nunc recensiti sunt, tradetur possessio; | 54 To the large in number you wil give a large area of land, to the smal in number a small area; toeach the heritage wil be in proportion to the number registered. |
55 ita dumtaxat, ut sors terram dividat. Secundum numerum tribuum patrum suorum hereditabunt. | 55 The sharing out of the country must, however, be done by lot. Each wil receive a heritageproportionate to the number of names in their patriarchal tribes; |
56 Quidquid sorte contigerit, hoc vel plures accipiant vel pauciores. | 56 the heritage of each tribe wil be shared out by lot, depending on its larger or smal er numbers.' |
57 Hic quoque est numerus filiorum Levi per familias suas: Gerson, a quo familia Gersonitarum; Caath, a quo familia Caathitarum; Merari, a quo familia Meraritarum. | 57 These, by clans, are the Levites that were registered: for Gershon, the Gershonite clan; for Kohath,the Kohathite clan; for Merari, the Merarite clan. |
58 Hae sunt familiae Levi: familia Lobni, familia Hebroni, familia Moholi, familia Musi, familia Core. At vero Caath genuit Amram, | 58 These are the Levite clans: the Libnite clan, the Hebronite clan, the Mahlite clan, the Mushite clan,the Korahite clan. Kohath fathered Amram. |
59 qui habuit uxorem Iochabed filiam Levi, quae nata est ei in Aegypto. Haec genuit Amram viro suo filios, Aaron et Moysen et Mariam sororem eorum. | 59 Amram's wife was cal ed Jokebed daughter of Levi, born to him in Egypt. To Amram she boreAaron, Moses and Miriam their sister. |
60 De Aaron orti sunt Nadab et Abiu et Eleazar et Ithamar, | 60 Aaron fathered Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. |
61 quorum Nadab et Abiu mortui sunt, cum obtulissent ignem alienum coram Domino. | 61 Nadab and Abihu died when they brought unauthorised fire before Yahweh. |
62 Fueruntque omnes, qui numerati sunt, viginti tria milia generis masculini ab uno mense et supra; quia non sunt recensiti inter filios Israel, nec eis cum ceteris data possessio est. | 62 Altogether twenty-three thousand males of one month and over were registered. They were notregistered with the Israelites, since they were given no heritage with the Israelites. |
63 Hic est numerus filiorum Israel, qui descripti sunt a Moyse et Eleazaro sacerdote in campestribus Moab supra Iordanem contra Iericho; | 63 Such were the men registered by Moses and the priest Eleazar who took a census of the Israeliteson the Plains of Moab near the Jordan by Jericho. |

65 praedixerat enim Dominus quod omnes morerentur in solitudine; nullusque remansit ex eis, nisi Chaleb filius Iephonne et Iosue filius Nun. | 65 for Yahweh had told them that these were to die in the desert and that none of them would be leftexcept Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun. |
