1 Ibi locutus est Dominus ad Moysen dicens:	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
2 “ Mitte vi ros, qui considerent terram Chanaan, quam daturus sum filiis Israel, singulos de singulis tribubus ex principibus ”.	2 'Send out men, one from each tribe, to reconnoitre the land of Canaan which I am giving theIsraelites. Each of them is to be a leading man of the tribe.'
3 Fecit Moyses quod Dominus imperaverat, de deserto Pharan mittens principes viros, quorum ista sunt nomina:	3 At Yahweh's order, Moses sent them from the desert of Paran. All of them were leading men of Israel.

17 Misit ergo eos Moyses ad considerandam terram Chanaan et dixit ad eos: “ Ascendite per Nageb. Cumque veneritis ad montes,	17 Moses sent them to reconnoitre the land of Canaan, 'Go up into the Negeb,' he said, 'then go up intothe highlands.
