NOVA VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
1 Diligite iustitiam, qui iudicatis terram,
sentite de Domino in bonitate
et in simplicitate cordis quaerite illum,
1 Love uprightness you who are rulers on earth, be properly disposed towards the Lord and seek him insimplicity of heart;
2 quoniam invenitur ab his, qui non tentant illum,
se autem manifestat eis, qui fidem habent in illum.
2 for he wil be found by those who do not put him to the test, revealing himself to those who do notmistrust him.
3 Perversae enim cogitationes separant a Deo,
probata autem virtus corripit insipientes.
3 Perverse thoughts, however, separate people from God, and power, when put to the test, confounds thestupid.
4 Quoniam in malevolam animam non introibit sapientia
nec habitabit in corpore subdito peccatis.
4 Wisdom wil never enter the soul of a wrong-doer, nor dwell in a body enslaved to sin;
5 Spiritus enim sanctus disciplinae effugiet fictum
et auferet se a cogitationibus insensatis
et corripietur a superveniente iniquitate.
5 for the holy spirit of instruction flees deceitfulness, recoils from unintel igent thoughts, is thwarted by theonset of vice.
6 Spiritus enim diligens hominem est sapientia
et non absolvet maledicum a labiis suis,
quoniam renum illius testis est Deus
et cordis illius scrutator verus
et linguae eius auditor;
6 Wisdom is a spirit friendly to humanity, though she will not let a blasphemer's words go unpunished;since God observes the very soul and accurately surveys the heart, listening to every word.
7 quoniam spiritus Domini replevit orbem terrarum,
et ipse, qui continet omnia, scientiam habet vocis.
7 For the spirit of the Lord fil s the world, and that which holds everything together knows every word said.
8 Propter hoc, qui loquitur iniqua, non potest latere,
nec praeteriet illum iudicium corripiens.
8 No one who speaks what is wrong will go undetected, nor will avenging Justice pass by such a one.
9 In cogitationibus enim impii interrogatio erit,
sermonum autem illius auditio ad Dominum veniet
ad correptionem iniquitatum illius;
9 For the schemes of the godless wil be examined, and a report of his words wil reach the Lord toconvict him of his crimes.
10 quoniam auris zeli audit omnia,
et tumultus murmurationum non absconditur.
10 There is a jealous ear that overhears everything, not even a murmur of complaint escapes it.
11 Custodite ergo vos a murmuratione, quae nihil prodest,
et a detractione parcite linguae,
quoniam sermo absconditus in vacuum non ibit;
os autem, quod mentitur, occidit animam.
11 So beware of uttering frivolous complaints, restrain your tongue from finding fault; even what is said insecret has repercussions, and a lying mouth deals death to the soul.
12 Nolite zelare mortem in errore vitae vestrae
neque acquiratis perditionem in operibus manuum vestrarum,
12 Do not court death by the errors of your ways, nor invite destruction through the work of your hands.
13 quoniam Deus mortem non fecit
nec laetatur in perditione vivorum;
13 For God did not make Death, he takes no pleasure in destroying the living.
14 creavit enim, ut essent omnia,
et sanabiles sunt generationes orbis terrarum,
et non est in illis medicamentum exterminii,
nec inferorum regnum in terra:
14 To exist -- for this he created all things; the creatures of the world have health in them, in them is nofatal poison, and Hades has no power over the world:
15 iustitia enim est immortalis.
15 for uprightness is immortal.
16 Impii autem manibus et verbis accersierunt illam;
aestimantes illam amicam defluxerunt
et sponsionem posuerunt ad illam,
quoniam digni sunt, qui sint ex parte illius.
16 But the godless cal for Death with deed and word, counting him friend, they wear themselves out forhim; with him they make a pact, worthy as they are to belong to him.
