1 Filii Iudae: Phares, Esrom et Charmi et Hur et Sobal.	1 Sons of Judah: Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, Shobal.
2 Reaia vero filius Sobal genuit Iahath, de quo nati sunt Ahumai et Laad; hae cognationes Saraitarum.	2 Reaiah son of Shobal fathered Jahath, and Jahath fathered Ahumai and Lahad. These are theZoreathite clans.
3 Et ista stirps Etam: Iezrahel et Iesema et Iedebos, nomenque sororis eorum Asalelphuni.	3 These are Abi-Etam, Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash, whose sister was cal ed Hazzelelponi.
4 Phanuel autem pater Gedor et Ezer pater Hosa; isti sunt filii Hur primogeniti Ephratha patris Bethlehem.	4 Penuel fathered Gedor, and Ezer fathered Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, first-born of Ephrathahand father of Bethlehem.
5 Ashur vero patris Thecue erant duae uxores: Halaa et Naara.	5 Ashhur, father of Tekoa, had two wives: Helah and Naarah.
6 Peperit autem ei Naara Oozam et Hepher et Themani et Ahasthari; isti sunt filii Naara.	6 Naarah bore him Ahuzzam, Hepher, the Timnites, and the Ahashtarites -- these were the sons ofNaarah.
7 Porro filii Halaa: Sereth et Sohar et Ethnan.	7 Sons of Helah: Zereth, Zohar, Ethnan.
8 Cos autem genuit Anob et Sobeba et cognationes Aharehel filii Arum.	8 Koz fathered Anub, Hazzobebah and the clans of Aharhel son of Harum.
9 Fuit autem Iabes inclitus prae fratribus suis; et mater eius vocavit nomen illius Iabes dicens: “ Quia peperi eum in dolore ”.	9 Jabez was better known than his brothers. His mother gave him the name Jabez, 'because', she said,'in distress I gave birth to him.'
10 Invocavit vero Iabes Deum Israel dicens: “ Si benedicens benedixeris mihi et dilataveris terminos meos, et fuerit manus tua mecum, et feceris me a malitia non opprimi! ”. Et praestitit Deus quae precatus est.	10 Jabez cal ed on the God of Israel. 'If you truly bless me,' he said, 'you wil extend my lands, your handwil be with me, you will keep harm away and my distress wil cease.' God granted him what he had asked.
11 Chelub autem frater Suaa genuit Mahir, qui fuit pater Esthon.	11 Chelub, Shuhah's brother, fathered Mehir, who fathered Eshton.
12 Porro Esthon genuit Bethrapha et Phasea et Tehinna patrem Hirnaas (id est urbis Naas); hi sunt viri Recha.	12 Eshton fathered Bethrapha, Paseah and Tehinnah father of Irnahash. These were the men of Recab.
13 Filii autem Cenez: Othoniel et Saraia; porro filii Othoniel: Hathath et Maonathi.	13 Sons of Kenaz: Othniel and Seraiah. Sons of Othniel: Hathath and Meonothai;
14 Maonathi genuit Ophra, Saraia autem genuit Ioab patrem Geharasim (id est vallis Artificum); ibi quippe artifices erant.	14 Meonothai fathered Ophrah. Seraiah fathered Joab, father of Geharashim -- for they were craftsmen.
15 Filii vero Chaleb filii Iephonne: Hir et Ela et Naham; filius quoque Ela: Cenez.	15 Sons of Caleb son of Jephunneh: Iru, Elah and Naam. Sons of Elah: Kenaz.
16 Filii quoque Iallelel: Ziph et Zipha, Thiria et Asarel.	16 Sons of Jehal elel: Ziph, Ziphah, Tiria, Asarel.
17 Et filii Ezra: Iether et Mered et Epher et Ialon. Et genuit Iether Mariam et Sammai et Iesba patrem Esthemo.	17 Sons of Ezrah: Jether, Mered, Epher, Jalon. She conceived Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah, the fatherof Eshtemoa,
	18 whose Judaean wife gave birth to Jered father of Gedor, Heber father of Soco, and Jekuthiel, father ofZanoah. These were the sons of Bithiah the daughter of Pharaoh whom Mered had married.
19 Filii autem uxoris eius Iudaicae sororis Naham patris Ceilae: Dalaia et Simeon pater Ioman. Filii autem Naham patris Ceilae: Garmitae et Esthemo Maachathitarum.	19 The sons of Hodiah's wife, sister of Naham father of Keilah the Garmite and of Eshtemoa theMaacathite . . .
20 Filii quoque Simon: Ammon et Rinna, Benhanan et Thilon. Et filii Iesi: Zoheth et Benzoheth.	20 Sons of Shimon: Amnon, Rinnah, Ben-Hanan, Tilon. Sons of Ishi: Zoheth and Ben-Zoheth.
21 Filii Sela filii Iudae: Her pater Lecha et Laada pater Maresa et cognationes domus operantium byssum in Bethasbea	21 Sons of Shelah son of Judah: Er father of Lecah, Laadah father of Mareshah, and the clans oflinenworkers at Beth-Ashbea,
22 et Iochim virique Chozeba et Ioas et Saraph, qui principes fuerunt in Moab et qui reversi sunt in Bethlehem; hae autem sunt res veteres.	22 Jokim, the men of Cozeba, Joash and Saraph where Moab found wives and then returned toBethlehem. (These are old traditions.)
23 Hi sunt figuli habitantes Netaim et Gedera; apud regem in operibus eius commorati sunt ibi.	23 These were potters and lived at Netaim and Gederah; they resided there, working for the king.
24 Filii Simeon: Namuel et Iamin, Iarib, Zara, Saul;	24 Sons of Simeon: Nemuel, Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, Saul;
25 Sellum filius eius, Mabsam filius eius, Masma filius eius.	25 Shallum was his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son.
26 Filii Masma: Hamuel filius eius, Zacchur filius eius, Semei filius eius.	26 The sons of Mishma: Hammuel his son, Zaccur his son, Shimei his son.
27 Filii Semei sedecim et filiae sex; fratres autem eius non habuerunt filios multos, et universa cognatio eorum non potuit adaequare summam filiorum Iudae.	27 Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters, but his brothers did not have many children, and the sumof their clans did not multiply as the sons of Judah did.
28 Habitaverunt autem in Bersabee et Molada et Asarsual	28 They lived in Beersheba, Moladah and Hazar-Shual,
29 et in Bilha et in Esem et in Tholad	29 Bilhah, Ezem and Tolad,
30 et in Bathuel et in Horma et in Siceleg	30 Bethuel, Hormah and Ziklag,
31 et in Bethmarchaboth et in Asarsusim et in Bethberai et in Saarim; hae civitates eorum usque ad regem David.	31 Beth-Marcaboth, Hazar-Susim, Beth-Biri, Shaaraim.
32 Villae quoque eorum: Etam et Ain, Remmon et Thochen et Asan, civitates quinque.	32 These were their towns until the reign of David. Their settlements were: Etam, Ain, Rimmon, Tochenand Ashan, five towns,
33 Et universi viculi eorum per circuitum civitatum istarum usque ad Baal; haec est habitatio eorum et genealogia.	33 and al the dependencies surrounding these towns as far as Baalath. That was where they lived andthey had an official genealogy.
34 Masobab quoque et Iemlech et Iosa filius Amasiae	34 Meshobab, Jamlech, Joshah son of Amaziah,
35 et Ioel et Iehu filius Iosabiae filii Saraiae filii Asiel	35 Joel, Jehu son of Joshibiah, son of Seraiah, son of Asiel,

37 Ziza quoque filius Sephei filii Allon filii Iedaia filii Semri filii Samaia.	37 Ziza, Ben-Shiphi, Ben-Allon, Ben-Jedaiah, Ben-Shimri, Ben-Shemaiah-
38 Isti nominatim inscripti erant principes in cognationibus suis; et familiae eorum expansae sunt vehementer,	38 these above named were princes in their clans in their ancestral home. Their numbers increasedenormously.
39 et profecti sunt ad introitum Gedor usque ad orientem vallis, ut quaererent pascua gregibus suis.	39 In search of pasture for their flocks, they spread from the Pass of Gerar to the eastern end of theval ey,
40 Inveneruntque pascuas uberes et valde bonas et terram latissimam et quietam et fertilem, in qua ante habitaverunt de stirpe Cham.	40 where they found good, fat pasture; the land was broad, untroubled, peaceful. Hamites had beenliving there before them.
41 Hi ergo venerunt, qui inscripti erant nominatim, in diebus Ezechiae regis Iudae, et percusserunt tabernacula eorum et Meunitas, qui inventi fuerunt ibi, et deleverunt eos usque in praesentem diem habitaveruntque pro eis, quoniam uberrimas ibidem pascuas reppererunt.	41 These Simeonites, recorded by name, arrived there in the time of Hezekiah king of Judah; theyoverran their tents and the dwellings which they found there. They put them under a curse of destruction stil inforce today and settled in their place, since there was pasturage for their flocks.
42 De filiis quoque Simeon abierunt in montem Seir viri quingenti habentes principes Pheltiam et Naariam et Raphaiam et Oziel filios Iesi	42 Five hundred of them, of the Simeonites, went to Mount Seir, their leaders being Pelatiah, Neariah,Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.
43 et percusserunt reliquias, quae evadere potuerant Amalecitarum, et habitaverunt ibi pro eis usque ad diem hanc.	43 They defeated the surviving fugitives of Amalek and still live there today.
