NOVA VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Fecit quoque sibi domos in civitate David et praeparavit locum arcae Dei tetenditque ei tabernaculum.	1 After he had put up buildings for himself in the City of David, he prepared a place for the ark of Godand pitched a tent for it.
2 Tunc dixit David: “ Illicitum est, ut a quocumque portetur arca Dei, nisi a Levitis, quos elegit Dominus ad portandum eam et ad ministrandum sibi usque in aeternum ”.	2 David then said, 'No one but the Levites should carry the ark of God, since Yahweh has chosen themto carry the ark of Yahweh and to minister to him for ever.'
3 Congregavitque David universum Israel in Ierusalem, ut afferretur arca Domini in locum suum, quem praeparaverat ei;	3 David then summoned al Israel to Jerusalem, to move the ark of Yahweh to the place which he hadprepared for it.
4 necnon et filios Aaron et Levitas.	4 David also cal ed the sons of Aaron and the Levites together:
5 De filiis Caath Uriel princeps fuit et fratres eius centum viginti;	5 of the sons of Kohath: Uriel the chief and his hundred and twenty kinsmen;
6 de filiis Merari Asaia princeps et fratres eius ducenti viginti;	6 of the sons of Merari: Asaiah the chief and his two hundred and twenty kinsmen;
7 de filiis Gerson Ioel princeps et fratres eius centum triginta;	7 of the sons of Gershom: Joel the chief and his hundred and thirty kinsmen;
8 de filiis Elisaphan Semeias princeps et fratres eius ducenti;	8 of the sons of Elizaphan: Shemaiah the chief and his two hundred kinsmen;
9 de filiis Hebron Eliel princeps et fratres eius octoginta;	9 of the sons of Hebron: Eliel the chief and eighty kinsmen;
10 de filiis Oziel Aminadab princeps et fratres eius centum duodecim.	10 of the sons of Uzziel: Amminadab the chief and his hundred and twelve kinsmen.
11 Vocavitque David Sadoc et Abiathar sacerdotes et Levitas Uriel, Asaiam, Ioel, Semeiam, Eliel et Aminadab	11 David then sent for the priests Zadok and Abiathar, and the Levites Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah,Eliel and Amminadab.
12 et dixit ad eos: “ Vos, qui estis principes familiarum Leviticarum, sanctificamini cum fratribus vestris et afferte arcam Domini, Dei Israel, ad locum, quem praeparavi.	12 To them he said, 'You are the heads of the levitical families. Sanctify yourselves, you and yourkinsmen, so that you can move the ark of Yahweh, God of Israel, to the place which I have prepared for it.
13 Quia a principio non eratis praesentes, fecit Dominus, Deus Israel, diruptionem in nobis; non enim quaesivimus eum, sicut fas erat ”.	13 Because you were not there the first time, Yahweh our God broke out at us because we did nothandle it properly.'
14 Sanctificati sunt ergo sacerdotes et Levitae, ut portarent arcam Domini, Dei Israel;	14 So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves, to move the ark of Yahweh, God of Israel,
15 et tulerunt filii Levi arcam Dei, sicut praeceperat Moyses iuxta verbum Domini, umeris suis in vectibus.	15 and the Levites carried the ark of God with the shafts on their shoulders, as Moses had ordered inaccordance with the word of Yahweh.
16 Dixitque David principibus Levitarum, ut constituerent de fratribus suis cantores in organis musicorum, nablis videlicet et lyris et cymbalis, ut resonaret fortiter sonitus laetitiae.	16 David also told the heads of the Levites to appoint their kinsmen as singers with the accompanimentof musical instruments, lyres, harps, and cymbals to play joyful y.
17 Constitueruntque Levitae Heman filium Ioel et de fratribus eius Asaph filium Barachiae, de filiis vero Merari fratribus eorum Ethan filium Casaiae	17 The Levites then appointed Heman son of Joel, Asaph son of Berechiah, one of his brothers, Ethanson of Kushaiah, one of their Merarite kinsmen;
18 et cum eis fratres eorum in secundo ordine Zachariam et Bani et Iaziel et Semiramoth et Iahiel et Ani, Eliab et Banaiam et Maasiam et Matthathiam et Eliphalu et Maceniam et Obededom et Iehiel ianitores.	18 and with them their kinsmen of the second rank: Zechariah, Uzziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab,Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, and Obed-Edom and Jehiel the gatekeepers.
19 Porro cantores Heman, Asaph et Ethan in cymbalis aeneis bene sonantibus,	19 The singers, Heman, Asaph and Ethan, were to play the bronze cymbals.
20 Zacharias autem et Oziel et Semiramoth et Iahiel et Ani et Eliab et Maasias et Banaias in nablis secundum “ Virgines ”.	20 Zechariah, Uzziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah and Benaiah were to play the lyre.
21 Porro Matthathias et Eliphalu et Macenias et Obededom et Iehiel et Ozaziu in citharis super octavam, ut dirigerent;	21 Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jehiel and Azaziah, giving the beat, were to play theharp.
22 Chonenias autem princeps Levitarum portantium arcam praeerat ad portandum, erat quippe valde sapiens.	22 Chenaniah, the levitical director of transport was in charge of the transport, being skilful at it.
23 Et Barachias et Elcana ianitores pro arca.	23 Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers for the ark.
24 Porro Sebania et Iosaphat et Nathanael et Amasai et Zacharias et Banaias et Eliezer sacerdotes clangebant tubis coram arca Dei, et Obededom et Iehias erant ianitores pro arca.	24 The priests Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah and Eliezer blew trumpetsbefore the ark of God, while Obed-Edom and Jehiah were also gatekeepers for the ark.
25 Igitur David et maiores natu Israel et tribuni ierunt ad deportandam arcam foederis Domini de domo Obededom cum laetitia.	25 David, the elders of Israel and the commanders of the thousands accordingly went, amid greatrejoicing, to bring the ark of the covenant of Yahweh up from Obed-Edom's house,
26 Cumque adiuvisset Deus Levitas, qui portabant arcam foederis Domini, immolati sunt septem tauri et septem arietes.	26 and since God was helping the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, theysacrificed seven bul s and seven rams.
27 Porro David indutus pallio byssino et universi Levitae, qui portabant arcam, cantoresque et Chonenias princeps pro portanda arca — David autem indutus erat etiam ephod lineo —	27 David, al the Levites who carried the ark, the singers and Chenaniah, director of transport, worecloaks of fine linen. David also wore a linen ephod.
28 universusque Israel deducebant arcam foederis Domini in iubilo et sonitu bucinae et tubis et cymbalis bene sonantibus et nablis et citharis.	28 Thus, with war-cries and the sounding of the horn, the trumpets and the cymbals, and the music oflyres and harps, al Israel transported the ark of the covenant of Yahweh.
29 Cumque pervenisset arca foederis Domini usque ad civitatem David, Michol filia Saul prospiciens per fenestram vidit regem David saltantem atque ludentem et despexit eum in corde suo.	29 Now, as the ark of the covenant of Yahweh entered the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul waswatching from the window and, when she saw King David dancing and playing, the sight of him filled her withcontempt.
