1 ואתה הקרב אליך את אהרן אחיך ואת בניו אתו מתוך בני ישראל לכהנו לי אהרן נדב ואביהוא אלעזר ואיתמר בני אהרן	1 "From among the Israelites have your brother Aaron, together with his sons Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, brought to you, that they may be my priests.
2 ועשית בגדי קדש לאהרן אחיך לכבוד ולתפארת	2 For the glorious adornment of your brother Aaron you shall have sacred vestments made.
3 ואתה תדבר אל כל חכמי לב אשר מלאתיו רוח חכמה ועשו את בגדי אהרן לקדשו לכהנו לי	3 Therefore, to the various expert workmen whom I have endowed with skill, you shall give instructions to make such vestments for Aaron as will set him apart for his sacred service as my priest.
4 ואלה הבגדים אשר יעשו חשן ואפוד ומעיל וכתנת תשבץ מצנפת ואבנט ועשו בגדי קדש לאהרן אחיך ולבניו לכהנו לי	4 These are the vestments they shall make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a brocaded tunic, a miter and a sash. In making these sacred vestments which your brother Aaron and his sons are to wear in serving as my priests,
5 והם יקחו את הזהב ואת התכלת ואת הארגמן ואת תולעת השני ואת השש	5 they shall use gold, violet, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen.
6 ועשו את האפד זהב תכלת וארגמן תולעת שני ושש משזר מעשה חשב	6 "The ephod they shall make of gold thread and of violet, purple and scarlet yarn, embroidered on cloth of fine linen twined.
7 שתי כתפת חברת יהיה לו אל שני קצותיו וחבר	7 It shall have a pair of shoulder straps joined to its two upper ends.
8 וחשב אפדתו אשר עליו כמעשהו ממנו יהיה זהב תכלת וארגמן ותולעת שני ושש משזר	8 The embroidered belt of the ephod shall extend out from it and, like it, be made of gold thread, of violet, purple and scarlet yarn, and of fine linen twined.
9 ולקחת את שתי אבני שהם ופתחת עליהם שמות בני ישראל	9 "Get two onyx stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel:
10 ששה משמתם על האבן האחת ואת שמות הששה הנותרים על האבן השנית כתולדתם	10 six of their names on one stone, and the other six on the other stone, in the order of their birth.
11 מעשה חרש אבן פתוחי חתם תפתח את שתי האבנים על שמת בני ישראל מסבת משבצות זהב תעשה אתם	11 As a gem-cutter engraves a seal, so shall you have the two stones engraved with the names of the sons of Israel and then mounted in gold filigree work.
12 ושמת את שתי האבנים על כתפת האפד אבני זכרן לבני ישראל ונשא אהרן את שמותם לפני יהוה על שתי כתפיו לזכרן	12 Set these two stones on the shoulder straps of the ephod as memorial stones of the sons of Israel. Thus Aaron shall bear their names on his shoulders as a reminder before the LORD.
13 ועשית משבצת זהב	13 Make filigree rosettes of gold,
14 ושתי שרשרת זהב טהור מגבלת תעשה אתם מעשה עבת ונתתה את שרשרת העבתת על המשבצת	14 as well as two chains of pure gold, twisted like cords, and fasten the cordlike chains to the filigree rosettes.
15 ועשית חשן משפט מעשה חשב כמעשה אפד תעשנו זהב תכלת וארגמן ותולעת שני ושש משזר תעשה אתו	15 "The breastpiece of decision you shall also have made, embroidered like the ephod with gold thread and violet, purple and scarlet yarn on cloth of fine linen twined.
16 רבוע יהיה כפול זרת ארכו וזרת רחבו	16 It is to be square when folded double, a span high and a span wide.
17 ומלאת בו מלאת אבן ארבעה טורים אבן טור אדם פטדה וברקת הטור האחד	17 On it you shall mount four rows of precious stones: in the first row, a carnelian, a topaz and an emerald;
18 והטור השני נפך ספיר ויהלם	18 in the second row, a garnet, a sapphire and a beryl;
19 והטור השלישי לשם שבו ואחלמה	19 in the third row, a jacinth, an agate and an amethyst;
20 והטור הרביעי תרשיש ושהם וישפה משבצים זהב יהיו במלואתם	20 in the fourth row, a chrysolite, an onyx and a jasper. These stones are to be mounted in gold filigree work,
21 והאבנים תהיין על שמת בני ישראל שתים עשרה על שמתם פתוחי חותם איש על שמו תהיין לשני עשר שבט	21 twelve of them to match the names of the sons of Israel, each stone engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.
22 ועשית על החשן שרשת גבלת מעשה עבת זהב טהור	22 "When the chains of pure gold, twisted like cords, have been made for the breastpiece,
23 ועשית על החשן שתי טבעות זהב ונתת את שתי הטבעות על שני קצות החשן	23 you shall then make two rings of gold for it and fasten them to the two upper ends of the breastpiece.
24 ונתתה את שתי עבתת הזהב על שתי הטבעת אל קצות החשן	24 The gold cords are then to be fastened to the two rings at the upper ends of the breastpiece,
25 ואת שתי קצות שתי העבתת תתן על שתי המשבצות ונתתה על כתפות האפד אל מול פניו	25 the other two ends of the cords being fastened in front to the two filigree rosettes which are attached to the shoulder straps of the ephod.
26 ועשית שתי טבעות זהב ושמת אתם על שני קצות החשן על שפתו אשר אל עבר האפד ביתה	26 Make two other rings of gold and put them on the two lower ends of the breastpiece, on its edge that faces the ephod.
27 ועשית שתי טבעות זהב ונתתה אתם על שתי כתפות האפוד מלמטה ממול פניו לעמת מחברתו ממעל לחשב האפוד	27 Then make two more rings of gold and fasten them to the bottom of the shoulder straps next to where they join the ephod in front, just above its embroidered belt.
28 וירכסו את החשן מטבעתו אל טבעת האפד בפתיל תכלת להיות על חשב האפוד ולא יזח החשן מעל האפוד	28 Violet ribbons shall bind the rings of the breastpiece to the rings of the ephod, so that the breastpiece will stay right above the embroidered belt of the ephod and not swing loose from it.
29 ונשא אהרן את שמות בני ישראל בחשן המשפט על לבו בבאו אל הקדש לזכרן לפני יהוה תמיד	29 "Whenever Aaron enters the sanctuary, he will thus bear the names of the sons of Israel on the breastpiece of decision over his heart as a constant reminder before the LORD.
30 ונתת אל חשן המשפט את האורים ואת התמים והיו על לב אהרן בבאו לפני יהוה ונשא אהרן את משפט בני ישראל על לבו לפני יהוה תמיד	30 In this breastpiece of decision you shall put the Urim and Thummim, that they may be over Aaron's heart whenever he enters the presence of the LORD. Thus he shall always bear the decisions for the Israelites over his heart in the LORD'S presence.
31 ועשית את מעיל האפוד כליל תכלת	31 "The robe of the ephod you shall make entirely of violet material.
32 והיה פי ראשו בתוכו שפה יהיה לפיו סביב מעשה ארג כפי תחרא יהיה לו לא יקרע	32 It shall have an opening for the head in the center, and around this opening there shall be a selvage, woven as at the opening of a shirt, to keep it from being torn.
33 ועשית על שוליו רמני תכלת וארגמן ותולעת שני על שוליו סביב ופעמני זהב בתוכם סביב	33 All around the hem at the bottom you shall make pomegranates, woven of violet, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen twined, with gold bells between them;
34 פעמן זהב ורמון פעמן זהב ורמון על שולי המעיל סביב	34 first a gold bell, then a pomegranate, and thus alternating all around the hem of the robe.
35 והיה על אהרן לשרת ונשמע קולו בבאו אל הקדש לפני יהוה ובצאתו ולא ימות	35 Aaron shall wear it when ministering, that its tinkling may be heard as he enters and leaves the LORD'S presence in the sanctuary; else he will die.
36 ועשית ציץ זהב טהור ופתחת עליו פתוחי חתם קדש ליהוה	36 "You shall also make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, as on a seal engraving, 'Sacred to the LORD.'
37 ושמת אתו על פתיל תכלת והיה על המצנפת אל מול פני המצנפת יהיה	37 This plate is to be tied over the miter with a violet ribbon in such a way that it rests on the front of the miter,
38 והיה על מצח אהרן ונשא אהרן את עון הקדשים אשר יקדישו בני ישראל לכל מתנת קדשיהם והיה על מצחו תמיד לרצון להם לפני יהוה	38 over Aaron's forehead. Since Aaron bears whatever guilt the Israelites may incur in consecrating any of their sacred gifts, this plate must always be over his forehead, so that they may find favor with the LORD.
39 ושבצת הכתנת שש ועשית מצנפת שש ואבנט תעשה מעשה רקם	39 "The tunic of fine linen shall be brocaded. The miter shall be made of fine linen. The sash shall be of variegated work.
40 ולבני אהרן תעשה כתנת ועשית להם אבנטים ומגבעות תעשה להם לכבוד ולתפארת	40 "Likewise, for the glorious adornment of Aaron's sons you shall have tunics and sashes and turbans made.
41 והלבשת אתם את אהרן אחיך ואת בניו אתו ומשחת אתם ומלאת את ידם וקדשת אתם וכהנו לי	41 With these you shall clothe your brother Aaron and his sons. Anoint and ordain them, consecrating them as my priests.
42 ועשה להם מכנסי בד לכסות בשר ערוה ממתנים ועד ירכים יהיו	42 You must also make linen drawers for them, to cover their naked flesh from their loins to their thighs.
43 והיו על אהרן ועל בניו בבאם אל אהל מועד או בגשתם אל המזבח לשרת בקדש ולא ישאו עון ומתו חקת עולם לו ולזרעו אחריו	43 Aaron and his sons shall wear them whenever they go into the meeting tent or approach the altar to minister in the sanctuary, lest they incur guilt and die. This shall be a perpetual ordinance for him and for his descendants.
