Divrei Hayamim (דברי הימים) - 1 Cronache 10

1 ופלשתים נלחמו בישראל וינס איש ישראל מפני פלשתים ויפלו חללים בהר גלבע	1 The Philistines gave battle to Israel and the Israelites, fleeing from the Philistines, fel and wereslaughtered on Mount Gilboa.
2 וידבקו פלשתים אחרי שאול ואחרי בניו ויכו פלשתים את יונתן ואת אבינדב ואת מלכי שוע בני שאול	2 The Philistines bore down on Saul and his sons, and they kil ed Jonathan, Abinadab and Malchishua,Saul's sons.
3 ותכבד המלחמה על שאול וימצאהו המורים בקשת ויחל מן היורים	3 The fighting grew fiercer round Saul; the archers came upon him, and he was wounded by thearchers.
4 ויאמר שאול אל נשא כליו שלף חרבך ודקרני בה פן יבאו הערלים האלה והתעללו בי ולא אבה נשא כליו כי ירא מאד ויקח שאול את החרב ויפל עליה	4 Saul then said to his armour-bearer, 'Draw your sword and run me through with it. I do not want theseuncircumcised men to come and make fun of me.' But his armour-bearer was very much afraid and would not doit. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.
5 וירא נשא כליו כי מת שאול ויפל גם הוא על החרב וימת	5 His armour-bearer, seeing that Saul was dead, fel on his sword too and died with him.
6 וימת שאול ושלשת בניו וכל ביתו יחדו מתו	6 Thus died Saul, his three sons and his entire household together.
7 ויראו כל איש ישראל אשר בעמק כי נסו וכי מתו שאול ובניו ויעזבו עריהם וינסו ויבאו פלשתים וישבו בהם	7 When al the Israelites who were in the val ey saw that the Israelites had been routed and that Sauland his sons were dead, they abandoned their towns and fled. The Philistines then came and occupied them.
8 ויהי ממחרת ויבאו פלשתים לפשט את החללים וימצאו את שאול ואת בניו נפלים בהר גלבע	8 When the Philistines came on the fol owing day to strip the dead, they found Saul and his sons lyingon Mount Gilboa.
9 ויפשיטהו וישאו את ראשו ואת כליו וישלחו בארץ פלשתים סביב לבשר את עצביהם ואת העם	9 They stripped him and, taking his head and his armour, had these carried round the territory of thePhilistines to proclaim the good news to their idols and their people.
10 וישימו את כליו בית אלהיהם ואת גלגלתו תקעו בית דגון	10 They placed his armour in the temple of their gods and nailed his head up in the temple of Dagon.
11 וישמעו כל יביש גלעד את כל אשר עשו פלשתים לשאול	11 When al the inhabitants of Jabesh in Gilead heard everything that the Philistines had done to Saul,
12 ויקומו כל איש חיל וישאו את גופת שאול ואת גופת בניו ויביאום יבישה ויקברו את עצמותיהם תחת האלה ביבש ויצומו שבעת ימים	12 the warriors al set out and took the bodies of Saul and his sons away; they brought them to Jabeshand buried their bones under the tamarisk of Jabesh and fasted for seven days.
13 וימת שאול במעלו אשר מעל ביהוה על דבר יהוה אשר לא שמר וגם לשאול באוב לדרוש	13 Thus died Saul in the infidelity of which he had been guilty towards Yahweh, in that he had notobeyed the word of Yahweh and because he had consulted a necromancer for guidance.
14 ולא דרש ביהוה וימיתהו ויסב את המלוכה לדויד בן ישי	14 He had not consulted Yahweh, who therefore caused his death and transferred the monarchy toDavid son of Jesse.
