| 1 Del rimanente, fratelli, pregate per noi, affinchè la parola di Dio corra, e sia glorificata, come già tra di voi: | 1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed on and triumph, as it did among you, |
| 2 E affinchè siamo liberati dai protervi, e cattivi uomini: imperocché non è di tutti la fede. | 2 and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men; for not all have faith. |
| 3 Ma fedele è Dio, il quale vi conforterà, e vi difenderà dal maligno. | 3 But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from evil. |
| 4 Abbiamo questa fidanza nel Signore rispetto a voi, che quanto vi abbiamo ordinato, e lo fate, e lo farete. | 4 And we have confidence in the Lord about you, that you are doing and will do the things which we command. |
| 5 Il Signore poi governi i vostri cuori con la carità di Dio, e con la pazienza di Cristo. | 5 May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ. |
| 6 Vi facciam poi sapere o fratelli, nel nome del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo, che vi ritiriate da qualunque fratello, che viva, disordinatamente, e non secondo la dottrina, che hanno ricevuta, da noi. | 6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is living in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us. |
| 7 Imperocché voi sapete, come dobbiate imitar noi: imperocché non ci diportammo inordinatamente tra voi: | 7 For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us; we were not idle when we were with you, |
| 8 Nè mangiammo ad ufo il pane di veruno, ma con fatica, e stento, lavorando di, e notte, per non essere di aggravio ad alcuno di voi: | 8 we did not eat any one's bread without paying, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not burden any of you. |
| 9 Non come se non avessimo potuto farlo, ma per darvi noi stessi modello da imitare. | 9 It was not because we have not that right, but to give you in our conduct an example to imitate. |
| 10 Imperocché eziandio allorché vi eravamo dappresso, v' intimavamo: che chi non vuol lavorare, non mangi. | 10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: If any one will not work, let him not eat. |
| 11 Imperocché abbiamo udito, che alcuni da voi procedono disordinatamente, i quali non fanno nulla, ma si affaccendano senza pro. | 11 For we hear that some of you are living in idleness, mere busybodies, not doing any work. |
| 12 Or a questi tali facciam sapere, gli scongiuriamo nel Signor Gesù Cristo, che lavorando in silenzio, mangino il loro pane. | 12 Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work in quietness and to earn their own living. |
| 13 Ma voi, o fratelli, non vi rallentate nel ben fare. | 13 Brethren, do not be weary in well-doing. |
| 14 Che se alcuno non ubbidisce a quanto diciamo per lettera, notatelo, e non abbiate commercio con esso, affinchè n' abbia confusione: | 14 If any one refuses to obey what we say in this letter, note that man, and have nothing to do with him, that he may be ashamed. |
| 15 E nol riguardate come nimico, ma correggetelo come fratello. | 15 Do not look on him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother. |
| 16 E lo stesso Signor della pace dia sempre a voi pace in ogni luogo. Il Signore sia con tutti voi. | 16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in all ways. The Lord be with you all. |
| 17 Il saluto (è) di mano di me Paolo: questo è il sigillo in ogni mia lettera: scrivo così. | 17 I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. This is the mark in every letter of mine; it is the way I write. |
| 18 La grazia del Signor nostro Gesù, Cristo con tutti voi. Cosi sia. | 18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. |
