Amos 8

BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il Signore mandommi questa visione: Io vedea un uncino da cogliere i frutti;	1 This is what Lord Yahweh showed me: A basket of ripe fruit.
2 E dissemi: Che è quel, che tu vedi, o Amos? E io dissi: Un uncino da corre i frutti. E il Signore disse a me: E venuta la fine pel mio popolo d'Israele: io noi lascerò più lungamente impunito.	2 'What do you see, Amos?' he asked. 'A basket of ripe fruit,' I said. Then Yahweh said, 'The time is ripefor my people Israel; I wil not continue to overlook their offences.
3 In quel giorno, dice il Signore Dio, strideranno i cardini del tempio, molti periranno: e in ogni luogo sarà vasto silenzio.	3 That day, the palace songs will turn to howls, -declares the Lord Yahweh- the corpses wil be manythat are thrown down everywhere. Keep silent!'
4 Ascoltate ciò voi, che straziate il povero, e struggete i miserabili del paese,	4 Listen to this, you who crush the needy and reduce the oppressed to nothing,
5 E dite: Quando passerà il mese, e venderemo le merci, e (passerà) il sabato, e metterem fuora il grano, farem più piccola la misura, e ricresceremo il peso del siclo, e adopreremo bilancia falsa;	5 you who say, 'When wil New Moon be over so that we can sel our corn, and Sabbath, so that we canmarket our wheat? Then, we can make the bushel-measure smaller and the shekel-weight bigger, byfraudulently tampering with the scales.
6 E ci farem padroni de' miserabili col denaro, e de' poveri con un paio di scarpe, e venderemo le vagliature del grano:	6 We can buy up the weak for silver and the poor for a pair of sandals, and even get a price for thesweepings of the wheat.'
7 Il Signore ha fatto questo giuramento contro la superbia di Giacobbe: Io giuro, che non mi scorderò giammai di tutte le opere loro.	7 Yahweh has sworn by the pride of Jacob, 'Never wil I forget anything they have done.'
8 E dopo tali cose non sarà ella scommossa la terra, e i suoi abitatori non sarann' eglino in pianto? La sovercherà quasi un fiume, ed ella sarà de solata, e sparirà come il rivo di Egitto,	8 Wil not the earth tremble for this and al who live on it lament, as it al rises together like the Nile inEgypt, it swel s and then subsides like the Egyptian Nile?
9 E avverrà in quel giorno, dice il Signore Dio, che il sole tramonterà a mezzo il dì, e farò, che si oscuri la terra in piena luce:	9 'On that Day- declares the Lord Yahweh- I shal make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth inbroad daylight.
10 E cangerò in lutto le vostre solennità; e in pianto tutte le vostre canzoni, e a tutti voi metterò intorno agli omeri il sacco, e vi farò rader la testa, e il suo duolo farò che sia qual suol essere per la perdita d'un unigenito, e che il suo fine sia come giorno di amarezza.	10 I shall turn your festivals into mourning and all your singing into lamentation; I shall make you all wearsacking round your waists and have al your heads shaved. I shal make it like the mourning for an only child,and it wil end like the bitterest of days.
11 Ecco, che viene il tempo, dice il Signore, quand'io manderò sopra la terra la fame, non fame di cibo, né sete di acqua, ma di udire una parola di Dio.	11 'The days are coming- declares the Lord Yahweh- when I shal send a famine on the country, nothunger for food, not thirst for water, but famine for hearing Yahweh's word.
12 E tutti saranno in iscompiglio da un mare all'altro, e da settentrione fino a levante. Anderanno attorno bramosi di udire una parola del Signore, e non la troveranno.	12 People wil stagger from sea to sea, will wander from the north to the east, searching for Yahweh'sword, but wil not find it.
13 In quel giorno verran meno per la sete le fanciulle avvenenti, e i giovinetti.	13 'That Day, fine girls and stalwart youths will faint from thirst.
14 Coloro, che giurano per il peccato di Samaria, e dicono: Viva, o Dan, il tuo Dio, e viva il pellegrinaggio di Bersabea: anderanno per terra, e non si rialzeranno mai più.	14 The people who swear by the Sin of Samaria, who say, "Long live your god, Dan!" and "Hurrah for thepilgrimage to Beersheba!" will all fal , never to rise again.'
