Prima lettera a Timoteo 6

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Quanti son sotto il giogo schiavi, d'ogni onore stimino degni i proprii padroni, perchè non si dica male del nome di Dio e della disciplina nostra.	1 Al those under the yoke of slavery must have unqualified respect for their masters, so that the name ofGod and our teaching are not brought into disrepute.
2 E quelli che hanno i padroni credenti, non li disprezzino, per il motivo che son fratelli, ma piuttosto li servano bene appunto perchè son fedeli e diletti quelli che son partecipi d'un tal benefizio. Tali cose insegna ed esorta.	2 Those whose masters are believers are not to respect them less because they are brothers; on thecontrary, they should serve them al the better, since those who have the benefit of their services are believersand dear to God. This is what you are to teach and urge.
3 Se qualcuno insegna cose diverse e non si attiene ai sani discorsi, quelli del nostro Signor Gesù Cristo, e conformi alla disciplina della pietà,	3 Anyone who teaches anything different and does not keep to the sound teaching which is that of ourLord Jesus Christ, the doctrine which is in accordance with true religion,
4 è pieno d'orgoglio e non sa nulla, ma ha la malattia delle dispute e delle logomachie, onde nasce invidia, discordia, maldicenza, sospetti cattivi,	4 is proud and has no understanding, but rather a weakness for questioning everything and arguing aboutwords. Al that can come of this is jealousy, contention, abuse and evil mistrust;
5 controversie di uomini corrotti di mente e privati della verità, gente che crede la pietà strumento di guadagno.	5 and unending disputes by people who are depraved in mind and deprived of truth, and imagine thatreligion is a way of making a profit.
6 Ed è veramente fonte di guadagno grande la pietà accompagnata dal contentarsi di quel che si ha;	6 Religion, of course, does bring large profits, but only to those who are content with what they have.
7 poichè nulla abbiam portato nel mondo e senza dubbio nulla ne possiamo portar via;	7 We brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it;
8 ma avendo cibi e vestimenti, di questi ci contenteremo.	8 but as long as we have food and clothing, we shal be content with that.
9 Ma quelli che vogliono arricchire, cadono nella tentazione e nel laccio del diavolo, e concepiscono molti desiderii stolti e dannosi, che sommergono gli uomini nella rovina e nella perdizione.	9 People who long to be rich are a prey to trial; they get trapped into all sorts of foolish and harmfulambitions which plunge people into ruin and destruction.
10 Giacchè radice di tutti i mali è l'amor del denaro, a cui aspirando taluni si sviarono dalla fede e si son creati molti guai.	10 'The love of money is the root of all evils' and there are some who, pursuing it, have wandered awayfrom the faith and so given their souls any number of fatal wounds.
11 Tu, o uomo di Dio, fuggi codeste cose, segui invece la giustizia, la pietà, la fede, la carità, la costanza, la mansuetudine.	11 But, as someone dedicated to God, avoid al that. You must aim to be upright and religious, fil ed withfaith and love, perseverance and gentleness.
12 Combatti il buon combattimento della fede, afferra l'eterna vita a cui sei stato chiamato, e hai fatto quella bella professione di fede in presenza di molti testimoni.	12 Fight the good fight of faith and win the eternal life to which you were cal ed and for which you madeyour noble profession of faith before many witnesses.
13 Ti scongiuro davanti a Dio, dator di ogni vita e di Cristo Gesù, che rese testimonianza davanti a Ponzio Pilato facendo quella bella professione,	13 Now, before God, the source of all life, and before Jesus Christ, who witnessed to his noble professionof faith before Pontius Pilate, I charge you
14 di osservare questi precetti, immacolato, irreprensibile, fino all'apparizione del nostro Signor Gesù Cristo;	14 to do al that you have been told, with no faults or failures, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 cui a suo tempo farà vedere il beato e unico Sovrano, re dei re. Signore dei Signori,	15 who at the due time wil be revealed by God, the blessed and only Ruler of al , the King of kings andthe Lord of lords,
16 l'unico che possiede l'immortalità, che abita una luce inaccessibile e che nessuno degli uomini vide, nè può vedere, al quale s'appartiene onore e potere sempiterno. Amen.	16 who alone is immortal, whose home is in inaccessible light, whom no human being has seen or is ableto see: to him be honour and everlasting power. Amen.
17 Ai ricchi dell'età presente dà il consiglio di non essere alteri d'animo, e di non riporre la speranza nell'incerto della ricchezza, ma di sperar in Dio, che ogni cosa ci somministra copiosamente per il nostro godimento;	17 Instruct those who are rich in this world's goods that they should not be proud and should set theirhopes not on money, which is untrustworthy, but on God who gives us richly al that we need for our happiness.
18 facciamo del bene, si arricchiscano di opere buone, siano facili a dare, a far parte	18 They are to do good and be rich in good works, generous in giving and always ready to share-
19 tesoreggiando così per se stessi un buon fondamento per l'avvenire, affinchè possano raggiungere quella che è veramente vita.	19 this is the way they can amass a good capital sum for the future if they want to possess the only lifethat is real.
20 O Timoteo, custodisci il deposito, evitando le profane novità d'espressioni e le contraddizioni di quella che falsamente si chiama scienza,	20 My dear Timothy, take great care of al that has been entrusted to you. Turn away from godlessphilosophical discussions and the contradictions of the 'knowledge' which is not knowledge at al ;
21 cui annunziando taluni persero la mira della fede. La grazia sia con voi!	21 by adopting this, some have missed the goal of faith. Grace be with you.
