1 - Parola di Dio che fu comunicata a Joele figlio di Fatuel:	1 The word of the Lord that came to Joel the son of Phatuel.
2 «Ascoltate, questo, o vecchi, porgete orecchio tutti voi, abitanti della terra, se un fatto simile è mai avvenuto ai vostri giorni o ai giorni dei padri vostri!	2 Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land: did this ever happen in your days, or in the days of your fathers?
3 Discorretene ai vostri figli e i figli vostri ai figli loro, e i figli loro all'altra generazione.	3 Tell ye of this to your children, and let your children tell their children, and their children to another generation.
4 L'avanzo del verme lo divorò la locusta, e l'avanzo della locusta lo divorò il bruco, e l'avanzo del bruco lo divorò la ruggine.	4 That which the palmerworm hath left, the locust hath eaten: and that which the locust hath left, the bruchus hath eaten: and that which the bruchus hath left, the mildew hath destroyed.
5 Risvegliatevi, ubriachi, e piangete e urlate tutti voi, bevitori di vino prelibato, perchè vi è stato tolto dalla bocca.	5 Awake, ye that are drunk, and weep, and mourn all ye that take delight in drinking sweet wine: for it is cut off from your mouth.
6 Perchè è salita sopra la mia terra una gente forte e senza numero; i suoi denti sono come i denti del leone e i suoi mascellari come quelli del lioncello.	6 For a nation is come up upon my land, strong and without number: his teeth are like the teeth of a lion: and his cheek teeth as of a lion's whelp.
7 Ha ridotta la mia vigna in un deserto, ha scortecciato il mio fico, e lo ha spogliato nudo e abbattuto: i suoi rami si sono fatti tutti bianchi.	7 He hath laid my vineyard waste, and hath pilled off the bark of my fig tree: he hath stripped it bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.
8 Piangi, come vergine vestita a lutto, per la morte dell'uomo della sua fiorente età!	8 Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
9 Sbandito il sacrificio e la libazione dalla casa del Signore, nel duolo i sacerdoti ministri del Signore!	9 Sacrifice and libation is cut off from the house of the Lord: the priests, the Lord's ministers, have mourned:
10 La campagna devastata, squallida la terra; perchè il grano s'è guastato, il vino ha fallito, e l'olio è andato a male.	10 The country is destroyed, the ground hath mourned: for the corn is wasted, the wine is confounded, the oil hath languished.
11 Gli agricoltori sono sgomenti, i vignaiuoli fanno grida lamentose sul frumento e sull'orzo, perchè il raccolto dei campi è perduto.	11 The husbandmen are ashamed, the vinedressers have howled for the wheat, and for the barley, because the harvest of the field is perished.
12 La vigna è avvizzita, il fico è intristito, il melagrano e la palma e tutte le piante della campagna seccarono, per cui è svanita la gioia dai figli degli uomini.	12 The vineyard is confounded, and the fig tree hath languished: the pomegranate tree, and the palm tree, and the apple tree, and all the trees of the field are withered: because joy is withdrawn from the children of men.
13 Cingetevi e piangete, o sacerdoti, alzate il vostro grido, o ministri dell'altare, entrate, pernottate vestiti di sacco, o ministri del mio Dio, perchè è sparita l'offerta e la libazione della casa del vostro Dio.	13 Gird yourselves, and lament, O ye priests, howl, ye ministers of the altars: go in, lie in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: because sacrifice and libation is cut off from the house of your God.
14 Indite il digiuno santo, convocate la radunanza, riunite gli anziani, tutti gli abitanti del paese nella casa del vostro Dio e gridate:	14 Sanctify ye a fast, call an assembly; gather together the ancients, all the inhabitants of the land into the house of your God: and cry ye to the Lord:
15 - Ahi, in quel giorno! - Perchè il giorno del Signore è vicino e verrà quale la devastazione di colui che tutto può.	15 Ah, ah, ah, for the day: because the day of the Lord is at hand, and it shall come like destruction from the mighty.
16 Non è forse sotto gli occhi vostri che gli alimenti sono venuti a mancare, dalla casa del vostro Dio, e l'allegrezza e il gaudio?	16 Is not your food cut off before your eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
17 Gli animali da lavoro sono marciti nel loro letame; i granai rovinati, in desolazione i magazzini; perchè le raccolte hanno fallito.	17 The beasts have rotted in their dung, the barns are destroyed, the storehouses are broken down: because the corn is confounded.
18 E il bestiame, perchè geme? perchè mugolano le mandre degli armenti? Perchè non hanno più pascoli; anche le mandre delle pecore sono perite.	18 Why did the beast groan, why did the herds of cattle low? because there is no pasture for them: yea, and the flocks of sheep are perished.
19 Verso di te, o Signore, io griderò; perchè un fuoco ha consunto il buono dei pascoli campestri, e una vampa ha riarso tutte le piante della contrada.	19 To thee, 0 Lord, will I cry: because fire hath devoured the beautiful places of the wilderness, and the flame hath burnt all the trees of the country.
20 Ma anche le bestie della campagna, come un'aiuola assetata di pioggia, alzarono anelanti lo sguardo a te; perchè si sono inaridite le sorgenti d'acqua e l'arsura ha divorato il buono dei pascoli campestri.	20 Yea and the beasts of the field have looked up to thee, as a garden bed that thirsteth after rain, for the springs of waters are dried up, and fire hath devoured the beautiful places of the wilderness.
