Proverbi 3

1 Figlio mio, non dimenticare il mio insegnamento e il tuo cuore custodisca i miei precetti,	1 My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart guard my precepts.
2 perché lunghi giorni e anni di vita e pace ti porteranno.	2 For they shall set before you length of days, and years of life, and peace.
3 Bontà e fedeltà non ti abbandonino; lègale intorno al tuo collo, scrivile sulla tavola del tuo cuore,	3 Let not mercy and truth abandon you: encircle them around your throat, and inscribe them on the tablets of your heart.
4 e otterrai favore e buon successo agli occhi di Dio e degli uomini.	4 And so shall you discover grace and good discipline, in the sight of God and men.
5 Confida nel Signore con tutto il cuore e non appoggiarti sulla tua intelligenza;	5 Have confidence in the Lord with all your heart, and do not depend upon your own prudence.
6 in tutti i tuoi passi pensa a lui ed egli appianerà i tuoi sentieri.	6 In all your ways, consider him, and he himself will direct your steps.
7 Non credere di essere saggio, temi il Signore e sta' lontano dal male.	7 Do not seem wise to yourself. Fear God, and withdraw from evil.
8 Salute sarà per il tuo corpo e un refrigerio per le tue ossa.	8 Certainly, it shall be health to your navel, and refreshment to your bones.
9 Onora il Signore con i tuoi averi e con le primizie di tutti i tuoi raccolti;	9 Honor the Lord with your substance, and give to him from the first of all your fruits,
10 i tuoi granai si riempiranno di grano e i tuoi tini traboccheranno di mosto.	10 and then your storehouses will be filled with abundance, and your presses shall overflow with wine.
11 Figlio mio, non disprezzare l'istruzione del Signore e non aver a noia la sua esortazione,	11 My son, do not discard the discipline of the Lord, and do not fall away when you are corrected by him.
12 perché il Signore corregge chi ama, come un padre il figlio prediletto.	12 For whomever the Lord loves, he corrects, and just as a father does with a son, he wins him over.
13 Beato l'uomo che ha trovato la sapienza e il mortale che ha acquistato la prudenza,	13 Blessed is the man who finds wisdom and who advances to prudence.
14 perché il suo possesso è preferibile a quello dell'argento e il suo provento a quello dell'oro.	14 Her acquisition is better than trading in silver, and her fruit is better than the first and purest gold.
15 Essa è più preziosa delle perle e neppure l'oggetto più caro la uguaglia.	15 She is more precious than all riches, and all that can be desired cannot prevail in comparison to her.
16 Lunghi giorni sono nella sua destra e nella sua sinistra ricchezza e onore;	16 Length of days is at her right hand, and at her left hand is wealth and glory.
17 le sue vie sono vie deliziose e tutti i suoi sentieri conducono al benessere.	17 Her ways are beautiful ways, and all her paths are peaceful.
18 È un albero di vita per chi ad essa s'attiene e chi ad essa si stringe è beato.	18 She is a tree of life to those who overtake her, and he who shall take hold of her is blessed.
19 Il Signore ha fondato la terra con la sapienza, ha consolidato i cieli con intelligenza;	19 The Lord founded the earth on wisdom. He secured the heavens with prudence.
20 dalla sua scienza sono stati aperti gli abissi e le nubi stillano rugiada.	20 By his wisdom, the abyss erupted and the clouds increased with dew.
21 Figlio mio, conserva il consiglio e la riflessione, né si allontanino mai dai tuoi occhi:	21 My son, let not these things move away from your eyes. Preserve law as well as counsel.
22 saranno vita per te e grazia per il tuo collo.	22 And so shall there be life in your soul and grace in your voice.
23 Allora camminerai sicuro per la tua strada e il tuo piede non inciamperà.	23 Then you shall walk confidently in your way, and your feet will not stumble.
24 Se ti coricherai, non avrai da temere; se ti coricherai, il tuo sonno sarà dolce.	24 When you slumber, you shall not fear. When you rest, your sleep also will be sweet.
25 Non temerai per uno spavento improvviso, né per la rovina degli empi quando verrà,	25 Do not fear unexpected terror, nor the power of the impious falling upon you.
26 perché il Signore sarà la tua sicurezza, preserverà il tuo piede dal laccio.	26 For the Lord will be at your side, and he will guard your feet, so that you may not be seized.
27 Non negare un beneficio a chi ne ha bisogno, se è in tuo potere il farlo.	27 Do not prevent him who is able from doing good. When you are able, do good yourself too.
28 Non dire al tuo prossimo: "Va', ripassa, te lo darò domani", se tu hai ciò che ti chiede.	28 Do not say to your friend: “Go away, and then return. Tomorrow I will give to you.” When you are able to do so, give in the present.
29 Non tramare il male contro il tuo prossimo mentre egli dimora fiducioso presso di te.	29 Do not undertake evil against your friend, even though he has trust in you.
30 Non litigare senza motivo con nessuno, se non ti ha fatto nulla di male.	30 Do not contend against a man without cause, even though he has done no evil to you.
31 Non invidiare l'uomo violento e non imitare affatto la sua condotta,	31 Do not rival an unjust man, and do not imitate his ways.
32 perché il Signore ha in abominio il malvagio, mentre la sua amicizia è per i giusti.	32 For everyone who ridicules is an abomination to the Lord, and his communication is for the simple.
33 La maledizione del Signore è sulla casa del malvagio, mentre egli benedice la dimora dei giusti.	33 Destitution in the house of the impious is from the Lord. But the habitations of the just shall be blessed.
34 Dei beffardi egli si fa beffe e agli umili concede la grazia.	34 He will ridicule those who ridicule, but he will bestow grace upon the mild.
35 I saggi possiederanno onore ma gli stolti riceveranno ignominia.	35 The wise will possess glory. The exaltation of the foolish is disgraceful.
