BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Figlio mio, non dimenticare il mio insegnamento e il tuo cuore custodisca i miei precetti,	1 My child, do not forget my teaching, let your heart keep my principles,
2 perché lunghi giorni e anni di vita e pace ti porteranno.	2 since they will increase your length of days, your years of life and your wel -being.
3 Bontà e fedeltà non ti abbandonino; lègale intorno al tuo collo, scrivile sulla tavola del tuo cuore,	3 Let faithful love and constancy never leave you: tie them round your neck, write them on the tablet ofyour heart.
4 e otterrai favore e buon successo agli occhi di Dio e degli uomini.	4 Thus you will find favour and success in the sight of God and of people.
5 Confida nel Signore con tutto il cuore e non appoggiarti sulla tua intelligenza;	5 Trust wholeheartedly in Yahweh, put no faith in your own perception;
6 in tutti i tuoi passi pensa a lui ed egli appianerà i tuoi sentieri.	6 acknowledge him in every course you take, and he wil see that your paths are smooth.
7 Non credere di essere saggio, temi il Signore e sta' lontano dal male.	7 Do not congratulate yourself on your own wisdom, fear Yahweh and turn your back on evil:
8 Salute sarà per il tuo corpo e un refrigerio per le tue ossa.	8 health-giving, this, to your body, relief to your bones.
9 Onora il Signore con i tuoi averi e con le primizie di tutti i tuoi raccolti;	9 Honour Yahweh with what goods you have and with the first-fruits of al your produce;
10 i tuoi granai si riempiranno di grano e i tuoi tini traboccheranno di mosto.	10 then your barns will be fil ed with corn, your vats overflowing with new wine.
11 Figlio mio, non disprezzare l'istruzione del Signore e non aver a noia la sua esortazione,	11 My child, do not scorn correction from Yahweh, do not resent his reproof;
12 perché il Signore corregge chi ama, come un padre il figlio prediletto.	12 for Yahweh reproves those he loves, as a father the child whom he loves.
13 Beato l'uomo che ha trovato la sapienza e il mortale che ha acquistato la prudenza,	13 Blessed are those who have discovered wisdom, those who have acquired understanding!
14 perché il suo possesso è preferibile a quello dell'argento e il suo provento a quello dell'oro.	14 Gaining her is more rewarding than silver, her yield is more valuable than gold.
15 Essa è più preziosa delle perle e neppure l'oggetto più caro la uguaglia.	15 She is beyond the price of pearls, nothing you could covet is her equal.
16 Lunghi giorni sono nella sua destra e nella sua sinistra ricchezza e onore;	16 In her right hand is length of days; in her left hand, riches and honour.
17 le sue vie sono vie deliziose e tutti i suoi sentieri conducono al benessere.	17 Her ways are filled with delight, her paths al lead to contentment.
18 È un albero di vita per chi ad essa s'attiene e chi ad essa si stringe è beato.	18 She is a tree of life for those who hold her fast, those who cling to her live happy lives.
19 Il Signore ha fondato la terra con la sapienza, ha consolidato i cieli con intelligenza;	19 In wisdom, Yahweh laid the earth's foundations, in understanding he spread out the heavens.
20 dalla sua scienza sono stati aperti gli abissi e le nubi stillano rugiada.	20 Through his knowledge the depths were cleft open, and the clouds distil the dew.
21 Figlio mio, conserva il consiglio e la riflessione, né si allontanino mai dai tuoi occhi:	21 My child, hold to sound advice and prudence, never let them out of sight;
22 saranno vita per te e grazia per il tuo collo.	22 they wil give life to your soul and beauty to your neck.
23 Allora camminerai sicuro per la tua strada e il tuo piede non inciamperà.	23 You wil go on your way in safety, your feet wil not stumble.
24 Se ti coricherai, non avrai da temere; se ti coricherai, il tuo sonno sarà dolce.	24 When you go to bed, you wil not be afraid; once in bed, your sleep will be sweet.
25 Non temerai per uno spavento improvviso, né per la rovina degli empi quando verrà,	25 Have no fear either of sudden terror or of attack mounted by wicked men,
26 perché il Signore sarà la tua sicurezza, preserverà il tuo piede dal laccio.	26 since Yahweh will be your guarantor, he wil keep your steps from the snare.
27 Non negare un beneficio a chi ne ha bisogno, se è in tuo potere il farlo.	27 Refuse no kindness to those who have a right to it, if it is in your power to perform it.
28 Non dire al tuo prossimo: "Va', ripassa, te lo darò domani", se tu hai ciò che ti chiede.	28 Do not say to your neighbour, 'Go away! Come another time! I will give it you tomorrow,' if you can do itnow.
29 Non tramare il male contro il tuo prossimo mentre egli dimora fiducioso presso di te.	29 Do not plot harm against your neighbour who is living unsuspecting beside you.
30 Non litigare senza motivo con nessuno, se non ti ha fatto nulla di male.	30 Do not pick a groundless quarrel with anyone who has done you no harm.
31 Non invidiare l'uomo violento e non imitare affatto la sua condotta,	31 Do not envy the man of violence, never model your conduct on his;
32 perché il Signore ha in abominio il malvagio, mentre la sua amicizia è per i giusti.	32 for the wilful wrong-doer is abhorrent to Yahweh, who confides only in the honest.
33 La maledizione del Signore è sulla casa del malvagio, mentre egli benedice la dimora dei giusti.	33 Yahweh's curse lies on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the upright.
34 Dei beffardi egli si fa beffe e agli umili concede la grazia.	34 He mocks those who mock, but accords his favour to the humble.
35 I saggi possiederanno onore ma gli stolti riceveranno ignominia.	35 Glory is the portion of the wise, all that fools inherit is contempt.
