BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Non ti vantare del domani, perché non sai neppure che cosa genera l'oggi.	1 Do not congratulate yourself about tomorrow, since you do not know what today wil bring forth.
2 Ti lodi un altro e non la tua bocca, un estraneo e non le tue labbra.	2 Let someone else sing your praises, but not your own mouth, a stranger, but not your own lips.
3 La pietra è greve, la sabbia è pesante, ma più dell'una e dell'altra lo è il fastidio dello stolto.	3 Heavy is the stone, weighty is the sand; heavier than both -- a grudge borne by a fool.
4 La collera è crudele, l'ira è impetuosa; ma chi può resistere alla gelosia?	4 Cruel is wrath, overwhelming is anger; but jealousy, who can withstand that?
5 Meglio un rimprovero aperto che un amore celato.	5 Better open reproof than feigned love.
6 Leali sono le ferite di un amico, fallaci i baci di un nemico.	6 Trustworthy are blows from a friend, deceitful are kisses from a foe.
7 Gola sazia disprezza il miele; per chi ha fame anche l'amaro è dolce.	7 The gorged throat revolts at honey, the hungry throat finds al bitterness sweet.
8 Come un uccello che vola lontano dal nido così è l'uomo che va errando lontano dalla dimora.	8 Like a bird that strays from its nest, so is anyone who strays away from home.
9 Il profumo e l'incenso allietano il cuore, la dolcezza di un amico rassicura l'anima.	9 Oil and perfume gladden the heart, and the sweetness of friendship rather than self-reliance.
10 Non abbandonare il tuo amico né quello di tuo padre, non entrare nella casa di tuo fratello nel giorno della tua disgrazia. Meglio un amico vicino che un fratello lontano.	10 Do not give up your friend or your father's friend; when trouble comes, do not go off to your brother'shouse, better a near neighbour than a distant brother.
11 Sii saggio, figlio mio, e allieterai il mio cuore e avrò di che rispondere a colui che mi insulta.	11 Learn to be wise, my child, and gladden my heart, that I may have an answer for anyone who insultsme.
12 L'accorto vede il pericolo e si nasconde, gli inesperti vanno avanti e la pagano.	12 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.
13 Prendigli il vestito perché si è fatto garante per uno straniero e tienilo in pegno per gli sconosciuti.	13 Take the man's clothes! He has gone surety for a stranger. Take a pledge from him, for personsunknown.

16 chi la vuol trattenere, trattiene il vento e raccoglie l'olio con la mano destra.	16 whoever can restrain her, can restrain the wind, and take a firm hold on grease.
17 Il ferro si aguzza con il ferro e l'uomo aguzza l'ingegno del suo compagno.	17 Iron is sharpened by iron, one person is sharpened by contact with another.
18 Il guardiano di un fico ne mangia i frutti, chi ha cura del suo padrone ne riceverà onori.	18 Whoever tends the fig tree eats its figs, whoever looks after his master wil be honoured.
19 Come un volto differisce da un altro, così i cuori degli uomini differiscono fra di loro.	19 As water reflects face back to face, so one human heart reflects another.
20 Come gli inferi e l'abisso non si saziano mai, così non si saziano mai gli occhi dell'uomo.	20 Sheol and Perdition are never satisfied, insatiable, too, are human eyes.
21 Come il crogiuolo è per l'argento e il fornello per l'oro, così l'uomo rispetto alla bocca di chi lo loda.	21 A furnace for silver, a foundry for gold: a person is worth what his reputation is worth.
22 Anche se tu pestassi lo stolto nel mortaio tra i grani con il pestello, non scuoteresti da lui la sua stoltezza.	22 Pound a fool in a mortar, among grain with a pestle, his fol y wil not leave him.
23 Preòccupati del tuo gregge, abbi cura delle tue mandrie,	23 Know your flocks' condition well, take good care of your herds;

26 gli agnelli ti danno le vesti e i capretti il prezzo per comprare un campo,	26 you should have lambs to clothe you, goats to buy you a field,
27 le capre latte abbondante per il cibo e per vitto della tua famiglia. e per mantenere le tue schiave.	27 goat's milk sufficient to feed you, to feed your household and provide for your serving girls.
