| 1 E ora, o fratelli, pregate per noi: affinché la parola del Signore si diffonda rapidamente e sia glorificata come lo è presso di voi; | 1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: |
| 2 affinché siamo liberati dai perversi e dai malvagi, perché non tutti aderiscono alla fede. | 2 And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. |
| 3 Il Signore è fedele: egli vi corroborerà e vi preserverà dal maligno, | 3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. |
| 4 E per voi abbiamo fiducia nel Signore che voi attuate e attuerete le prescrizioni che vi abbiamo date. | 4 And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. |
| 5 Che il Signore diriga i vostri cuori nell’amore di Dio e nella costanza del Cristo. | 5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. |
| 6 Vi ordiniamo, o fratelli, in nome del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo, di evitare ogni fratello che vive oziosamente È non secondo l’insegnamento che avete ricevuto da noi. | 6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. |
| 7 Voi sapete bene che è necessario che ci imitiate: noi non ci sottraeemmo al lavoro presso di voi | 7 For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; |
| 8 né mangiammo gratuitamente il pane di nessuno. Notte e giorno, con fatica e con pena, lavorammo per non essere a carico di alcuno di voi. | 8 Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you: |
| 9 Ciò non perché non ne avessimo diritto, ma per offrirvi in noi stessi un esempio da imitare. | 9 Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us. |
| 10 Perciò quando eravamo tra voi vi davamo questo precetto: se qualcuno non vuole lavorare, non mangi neppure. | 10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. |
| 11 Ci è riferito infatti che alcuni tra voi vivono nell’ozio, senza far nulla e sempre affaccendati. | 11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. |
| 12 A questi tali noi ordiniamo e li scongiuriamo nel Signore Gesù Cristo a guadagnarsi il pane che mangiano lavorando serenamente. | 12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. |
| 13 Quanto a voi, o fratelli, non desistete dal fare il bene. | 13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. |
| 14 E se qualcuno non ubbidisse alle istruzioni di questa lettera notatelo e non abbiate relazioni con lui, onde si vergogni. | 14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. |
| 15 Non lo considerate però come un nemico, ma come un fratello da riprendere. | 15 Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. |
| 16 Che il Signore della pace vi dia la pace sempre e in ogni modo! | 16 Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all. |
| 17 Il saluto è di mia propria mano, di me Paolo; è il segno distintivo per ciascuna mia lettera: così io scrivo. | 17 The salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the token in every epistle: so I write. |
| 18 La grazia del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo sia con tutti voi. | 18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. |
