| 1 Os he dicho esto para que no os escandalicéis. | 1 "I have said all this to you to keep you from falling away. |
| 2 Os expulsarán de las sinagogas. E incluso llegará la hora en que todo el que os mate piense que da culto a Dios. | 2 They will put you out of the synagogues; indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. |
| 3 Y esto lo harán porque no han conocido ni al Padre ni a mí. | 3 And they will do this because they have not known the Father, nor me. |
| 4 Os he dicho esto para que, cuando llegue la hora, os acordéis de que ya os lo había dicho. «No os dije esto desde el principio porque estaba yo con vosotros. | 4 But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you of them. "I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you. |
| 5 Pero ahora me voy a Aquel que me ha enviado, y ninguno de vosotros me pregunta: “¿Dónde vas?” | 5 But now I am going to him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?' |
| 6 Sino que por haberos dicho esto vuestros corazones se han llenado de tristeza. | 6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts. |
| 7 Pero yo os digo la verdad: Os conviene que yo me vaya; porque si no me voy, no vendrá a vosotros el Paráclito; pero si me voy, os lo enviaré: | 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. |
| 8 y cuando él venga, convencerá al mundo en lo referente al pecado, en lo referente a la justicia y en lo referente al juicio; | 8 And when he comes, he will convince the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: |
| 9 en lo referente al pecado, porque no creen en mí; | 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; |
| 10 en lo referente a la justicia porque me voy al Padre, y ya no me veréis; | 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more; |
| 11 en lo referente al juicio, porque el Príncipe de este mundo está juzgado. | 11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. |
| 12 Mucho tengo todavía que deciros, pero ahora no podéis con ello. | 12 "I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. |
| 13 Cuando venga él, el Espíritu de la verdad, os guiará hasta la verdad completa; pues no hablará por su cuenta, sino que hablará lo que oiga, y os anunciará lo que ha de venir. | 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. |
| 14 El me dará gloria, porque recibirá de lo mío y os lo anunciará a vosotros. | 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. |
| 15 Todo lo que tiene el Padre es mío. Por eso he dicho: Recibirá de lo mío y os lo anunciará a vosotros. | 15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you. |
| 16 «Dentro de poco ya no me veréis, y dentro de otro poco me volveréis a ver». | 16 "A little while, and you will see me no more; again a little while, and you will see me." |
| 17 Entonces algunos de sus discípulos comentaron entre sí: «¿Qué es eso que nos dice: “Dentro de poco ya no me veréis y dentro de otro poco me volveréis a ver” y “Me voy al Padre”?» | 17 Some of his disciples said to one another, "What is this that he says to us, 'A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me'; and, 'because I go to the Father'?" |
| 18 Y decían: «¿Qué es ese “poco”? No sabemos lo que quiere decir». | 18 They said, "What does he mean by 'a little while? We do not know what he means." |
| 19 Se dio cuenta Jesús de que querían preguntarle y les dijo: «¿Andáis preguntándoos acerca de lo que he dicho: “Dentro de poco no me veréis y dentro de otro poco me volveréis a ver?” | 19 Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him; so he said to them, "Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, 'A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me? |
| 20 «En verdad, en verdad os digo que lloraréis y os lamentaréis, y el mundo se alegrará. Estaréis tristes, pero vuestra tristeza se convertirá en gozo. | 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy. |
| 21 La mujer, cuando va a dar a luz, está triste, porque le ha llegado su hora; pero cuando ha dado a luz al niño, ya no se acuerda del aprieto por el gozo de que ha nacido un hombre en el mundo. | 21 When a woman is in travail she has sorrow, because her hour has come; but when she is delivered of the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a child is born into the world. |
| 22 También vosotros estáis tristes ahora, pero volveré a veros y se alegrará vuestro corazón y vuestra alegría nadie os la podrá quitar. | 22 So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. |
| 23 Aquel día no me preguntaréis nada. En verdad, en verdad os digo: lo que pidáis al Padre os lo dará en mi nombre. | 23 In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father, he will give it to you in my name. |
| 24 Hasta ahora nada le habéis pedido en mi nombre. Pedid y recibiréis, para que vuestro gozo sea colmado. | 24 Hitherto you have asked nothing in my name; ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. |
| 25 Os he dicho todo esto en parábolas. Se acerca la hora en que ya no os hablaré en parábolas, sino que con toda claridad os hablaré acerca del Padre. | 25 "I have said this to you in figures; the hour is coming when I shall no longer speak to you in figures but tell you plainly of the Father. |
| 26 Aquel día pediréis en mi nombre y no os digo que yo rogaré al Padre por vosotros, | 26 In that day you will ask in my name; and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you; |
| 27 pues el Padre mismo os quiere, porque me queréis a mí y creéis que salí de Dios. | 27 for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from the Father. |
| 28 Salí del Padre y he venido al mundo. Ahora dejo otra vez el mundo y voy al Padre». | 28 I came from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and going to the Father." |
| 29 Le dicen sus discípulos: «Ahora sí que hablas claro, y no dices ninguna parábola. | 29 His disciples said, "Ah, now you are speaking plainly, not in any figure! |
| 30 Sabemos ahora que lo sabes todo y no necesitas que nadie te pregunte. Por esto creemos que has salido de Dios». | 30 Now we know that you know all things, and need none to question you; by this we believe that you came from God." |
| 31 Jesús les respondió: «¿Ahora creéis? | 31 Jesus answered them, "Do you now believe? |
| 32 Mirad que llega la hora (y ha llegado ya) en que os dispersaréis cada uno por vuestro lado y me dejaréis solo. Pero no estoy solo, porque el Padre está conmigo. | 32 The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, every man to his home, and will leave me alone; yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. |
| 33 Os he dicho estas cosas para que tengáis paz en mí. En el mundo tendréis tribulación. Pero ¡ánimo!: yo he vencido al mundo». | 33 I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." |
