1 Zombeteiro é o vinho e amotinadora a cerveja: quem quer que se apegue a isto não será sábio.	1 Wine is arrogant, strong drink is riotous; none who goes astray for it is wise.
2 O furor do rei é como um rugido de leão: aquele que o provoca, prejudica-se a si mesmo.	2 The dread of the king is as when a lion roars; he who incurs his anger forfeits his life.
3 É uma glória para o homem abster-se de contendas; o tolo, porém, é o único que as procura.	3 It is honorable for a man to shun strife, while every fool starts a quarrel.
4 Desde o outono o preguiçoso não trabalha: mendigará no tempo da colheita, mas não terá nada.	4 In seedtime the sluggard plows not; when he looks for the harvest, it is not there.
5 Água profunda é o conselho no íntimo do homem; o homem inteligente sabe haurir dela.	5 The intention in the human heart is like water far below the surface, but the man of intelligence draws it forth.
6 Muitos homens apregoam a sua bondade, mas quem achará um homem verdadeiramente fiel?	6 Many are declared to be men of virtue: but who can find one worthy of trust?
7 O justo caminha na integridade; ditosos os filhos que o seguirem!	7 When a man walks in integrity and justice, happy are his children after him!
8 O rei, que está sentado no trono da justiça, só com seu olhar dissipa todo o mal.	8 A king seated on the throne of judgment dispels all evil with his glance.
9 Quem pode dizer: Meu coração está puro, estou limpo de pecado?	9 Who can say, "I have made my heart clean, I am cleansed of my sin"?
10 Ter dois pesos e duas medidas é objeto de abominação para o Senhor.	10 Varying weights, varying measures, are both an abomination to the LORD.
11 O menino manifesta logo por seus atos se seu proceder será puro e reto.	11 Even by his manners the child betrays whether his conduct is innocent and right.
12 O ouvido que ouve, o olho que vê, ambas estas coisas fez o Senhor.	12 The ear that hears, and the eye that sees-- the LORD has made them both.
13 Não sejas amigo do sono, para que não te tornes pobre: abre os olhos e terás pão à vontade.	13 Love not sleep, lest you be reduced to poverty; eyes wide open mean abundant food.
14 Mau, mau! diz o comprador. Mas se gloria ao se retirar.	14 "Bad, bad!" says the buyer; but once he has gone his way, he boasts.
15 Há ouro, há pérola em abundância; jóia rara é a boca sábia.	15 Like gold or a wealth of corals, wise lips are a precious ornament.
16 Toma-lhe a roupa, porque ele respondeu por outrem; exige dele um penhor em proveito dos estranhos.	16 Take his garment who becomes surety for another, and for strangers yield it up!
17 Saboroso é para o homem o pão defraudado, mas depois terá a boca cheia de cascalhos.	17 The bread of deceit is sweet to a man, but afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel.
18 Os projetos triunfam pelo conselho; é com prudência que deve ser dirigida a guerra.	18 Plans made after advice succeed; so with wise guidance wage your war.
19 O mexiriqueiro trai os segredos: não te familiarizes com um falador.	19 A newsmonger reveals secrets; so have nothing to do with a babbler!
20 Quem amaldiçoa seu pai ou sua mãe {verá} apagar-se sua luz no meio de densas trevas.	20 If one curses his father or mother, his lamp will go out at the coming of darkness.
21 Herança muito depressa adquirida no princípio não será abençoada no fim.	21 Possessions gained hastily at the outset will in the end not be blessed.
22 Não digas: Eu me vingarei! Coloca tua esperança no Senhor, ele te salvará.	22 Say not, "I will repay evil!" Trust in the LORD and he will help you.
23 Ter dois pesos é abominação para o Senhor; uma balança falsa não é coisa boa.	23 Varying weights are an abomination to the LORD, and false scales are not good.
24 O Senhor é quem dirige os passos do homem: como poderá o homem compreender seu caminho?	24 Man's steps are from the LORD; how, then, can a man understand his way?
25 É um laço dizer inconsideradamente: Consagrado! e não refletir antes de ter emitido um voto.	25 Rashly to pledge a sacred gift is a trap for a man, or to regret a vow once made.
26 O rei sábio joeira os ímpios, faz passar sobre eles a roda.	26 A wise king winnows the wicked, and threshes them under the cartwheel.
27 O espírito do homem é uma lâmpada do Senhor: ela penetra os mais íntimos recantos das entranhas.	27 A lamp from the LORD is the breath of man; it searches through all his inmost being.
28 Bondade e fidelidade montam guarda ao rei; pela justiça firma-se seu trono.	28 Kindness and piety safeguard the king, and he upholds his throne by justice.
29 A força é o ornato dos jovens; o ornamento dos anciãos são os cabelos brancos.	29 The glory of young men is their strength, and the dignity of old men is gray hair.
30 A ferida sangrenta cura o mal; também os golpes, no mais íntimo do corpo.	30 Evil is cleansed away by bloody lashes, and a scourging to the inmost being.
