NOVA VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
Post haec vidi quattuor angelos stantes super quattuor angulos terraetenentes quattuor ventos terrae, ne flaret ventus super terram neque super mareneque in ullam arborem.1 Next I saw four angels, standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of theworld to keep them from blowing over the land or the sea or any tree.
Et vidi alterum angelum ascendentem ab ortu solis,habentem sigillum Dei vivi; et clamavit voce magna quattuor angelis, quibusdatum est nocere terrae et mari,2 Then I saw another angel rising where the sun rises, carrying the seal of the living God; he cal ed in apowerful voice to the four angels whose duty was to devastate land and sea,
dicens: “ Nolite nocere terrae neque marineque arboribus, quoadusque signemus servos Dei nostri in frontibus eorum ”.3 'Wait before you do any damage on land or at sea or to the trees, until we have put the seal on theforeheads of the servants of our God.'
Et audivi numerum signatorum, centum quadraginta quattuor milia signati ex omnitribu filiorum Israel:4 And I heard how many had been sealed: a hundred and forty-four thousand, out of al the tribes ofIsrael.
ex tribu Iudae duodecim milia signati, ex tribu Rubenduodecim milia, ex tribu Gad duodecim milia,5 From the tribe of Judah, twelve thousand had been sealed; from the tribe of Reuben, twelve thousand;from the tribe of Gad, twelve thousand;
ex tribu Aser duodecim milia, extribu Nephthali duodecim milia, ex tribu Manasse duodecim milia,6 from the tribe of Asher, twelve thousand; from the tribe of Naphtali, twelve thousand; from the tribe ofManasseh, twelve thousand;
ex tribuSimeon duodecim milia, ex tribu Levi duodecim milia, ex tribu Issachar duodecimmilia,7 from the tribe of Simeon, twelve thousand; from the tribe of Levi, twelve thousand; from the tribe ofIssachar, twelve thousand;
ex tribu Zabulon duodecim milia, ex tribu Ioseph duodecim milia, extribu Beniamin duodecim milia signati.
from the tribe of Zebulun, twelve thousand; and from the tribe of Benjamin, twelve thousand had beensealed.
After that I saw that there was a huge number, impossible for anyone to count, of people from everynation, race, tribe and language; they were standing in front of the throne and in front of the Lamb, dressed inwhite robes and holding palms in their hands. They shouted in a loud voice,
'Salvation to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!'
Et omnes angeli stabant in circuitu throni et seniorum et quattuor animalium,et ceciderunt in conspectu throni in facies suas et adoraverunt Deum11 And al the angels who were standing in a circle round the throne, surrounding the elders and the fourliving creatures, prostrated themselves before the throne, and touched the ground with their foreheads,worshipping God
dicentes:
“ Amen! Benedictio et gloria et sapientia et gratiarum actio et honor etvirtus et fortitudo Deo nostro in saecula saeculorum. Amen ”.
with these words: Amen. Praise and glory and wisdom, thanksgiving and honour and power andstrength to our God for ever and ever. Amen.
”.13 One of the elders then spoke and asked me, 'Who are these people, dressed in white robes, andwhere have they come from?'
I answered him, 'You can tel me, sir.' Then he said, 'These are the people who have been through thegreat trial; they have washed their robes white again in the blood of the Lamb.
That is why they are standing in front of God's throne and serving him day and night in his sanctuary;and the One who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.
They will never hunger or thirst again; sun and scorching wind wil never plague them,
because the Lamb who is at the heart of the throne wil be their shepherd and wil guide them tosprings of living water; and God wil wipe away al tears from their eyes.'
