NOVA VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
Et convertit me ad portam domus, et ecce aquae egre diebantur subterlimen domus ad orientem; facies enim domus respiciebat ad orientem, aquae autemdescendebant a latere templi dextro a meridie altaris.1 He brought me back to the entrance of the Temple, where a stream flowed eastwards from under theTemple threshold, for the Temple faced east. The water flowed from under the right side of the Temple, south ofthe altar.
Et eduxit me per viamportae aquilonis et convertit me ad viam foras ad portam exteriorem, quaerespiciebat ad orientem; et ecce aquae exeuntes a latere dextro.2 He took me out by the north gate and led me right round outside as far as the outer east gate where the water flowed out on the right-hand side.
Cumegrederetur vir ad orientem, qui habebat funiculum in manu sua, mensus est millecubitos et traduxit me per aquam usque ad talos.3 The man went off to the east holding his measuring line and measured off a thousand cubits; he thenmade me wade across the stream; the water reached my ankles.
Rursumque mensus est mille ettraduxit me per aquam usque ad genua.4 He measured off another thousand and made me wade across the stream again; the water reachedmy knees. He measured off another thousand and made me wade across the stream again; the water reachedmy waist.
Et mensus est mille et traduxit me peraquam usque ad renes. Et mensus est mille; torrens, quem non potui pertransire, quoniam intumuerant aquae, aquae ad natandum; torrens, qui non poterattransvadari.5 He measured off another thousand; it was now a river which I could not cross; the stream had swol enand was now deep water, a river impossible to cross.
Et dixit ad me: “ Certe vidisti, fili hominis ”; et duxit meet convertit ad ripam torrentis.6 He then said, 'Do you see, son of man?' He then took me and brought me back to the bank on theriver.
Cumque me convertissem, ecce in ripatorrentis ligna multa nimis ex utraque parte;7 Now, when I reached it, I saw an enormous number of trees on each bank of the river.
et ait ad me: “ Aquae istae, quae egrediuntur ad regionem orientalem et descendunt ad Arabam, intrabunt mare, aquas salsas, et sanabuntur aquae:8 He said, 'This water flows east down to the Arabah and to the sea; and flowing into the sea it makesits waters wholesome.
et omnis anima vivens, quae movetur, quocumque venerit torrens, vivet, et erunt pisces multi satis, postquam venerintilluc aquae istae, et sanabuntur et vivent omnia, ad quae venerit torrens.9 Wherever the river flows, all living creatures teeming in it wil live. Fish wil be very plentiful, forwherever the water goes it brings health, and life teems wherever the river flows.
Etstabunt super mare piscatores; ab Engaddi usque ad Engallim siccatio sagenarumerit; plurimae species erunt piscium eius, sicut pisces maris Magni, multitudinis nimiae.10 There will be fishermen on its banks. Fishing nets will be spread from En-Gedi to En-Eglaim. Thespecies of fish wil be the same as the fish of the Great Sea.
Palustria autem eius et stagna non sanabuntur, quia insalinas dabuntur.11 The marshes and lagoons, however, wil not become wholesome, but wil remain salt.
Et super torrentem orietur in ripis eius ex utraque parteomne lignum pomiferum; non defluet folium ex eo, et non deficiet fructus eius:per singulos menses afferet primitiva, quia aquae eius de sanctuarioegredientur, et erunt fructus eius in cibum, et folia eius ad medicinam.12 Along the river, on either bank, will grow every kind of fruit tree with leaves that never wither and fruitthat never fails; they wil bear new fruit every month, because this water comes from the sanctuary. And theirfruit wil be good to eat and the leaves medicinal.'
Haec dicit Dominus Deus: Hic est terminus, in quo possidebitis terram induodecim tribubus Israel, quia Ioseph duplicem funiculum habet;13 'The Lord Yahweh says this, "This wil be the territory which you must distribute among the twelvetribes of Israel, with two portions for Joseph.
possidebitisautem eam, singuli aeque ut frater suus, super quam levavi manum meam, ut darempatribus vestris; et cadet terra haec vobis in possessionem.14 You wil each have a fair share of it, since I swore to your fathers that I would give it to them, and thiscountry now falls to you as your heritage.
Hic est autemterminus terrae: ad plagam septentrionalem a mari Magno via Hethalon adintroitum Emath,15 These wil be the frontiers of the country. On the north, from the Great Sea, the road from Hethlon tothe Pass of Hamath, Zedad,
Sedada, Berotha, Sabarim, quae est inter terminum Damasci etconfinium Emath, usque ad Asarenon, quae est iuxta terminum Auran;16 Berothah, Sibraim lying between the territories of Damascus and Hamath, to Hazer-ha-Tikon on theborders of Hauran;
erit ergoterminus a mari usque ad Asarenon, cum fines Damasci et fines Emath sint inaquilone; haec est plaga septentrionalis.17 the frontier wil extend from the sea to Hazer-Enon, with the territory of Damascus and the territory ofHamath to the north; that wil be the northern frontier.
Porro plaga orientalis de locointer Auran et inter Damascum et in medio inter Galaad et terram Israel,Iordanis disterminans usque ad mare orientale, usque Thamar; haec est plagaorientalis.18 On the east, the Jordan wil serve as frontier between Hauran and Damascus, between Gilead andIsrael, down to the Eastern Sea as far as Tamar; that wil be the eastern frontier.
Plaga autem australis meridiana a Thamar usque ad aquasMeribathcades et torrentem usque ad mare Magnum; haec est plaga ad meridiemaustralis.19 On the south, from Tamar southward to the Waters of Meribah in Kadesh, to the Wadi and the GreatSea; that wil be the southern frontier.
Et plaga maris, mare Magnum a confinio per directum, donec veniasEmath; haec est plaga maris.20 And to the west, the Great Sea wil serve as frontier up to the point opposite the Pass of Hamath; thatwil be the western frontier.
Et dividetis terram istam vobis per tribusIsrael21 You must distribute this country among yourselves, among the tribes of Israel.
et mittetis eam in hereditatem, vobis et advenis, qui accesserint advos, qui genuerint filios in medio vestrum, et erunt vobis sicut indigenae interfilios Israel: vobiscum divident possessionem in medio tribuum Israel;22 You must distribute it as a heritage for yourselves and the aliens settled among you who havefathered children among you, since you must treat them as citizens of Israel. They must draw lots for theirheritage with you, among the tribes of Israel.
intribu autem quacumque fuerit advena, ibi dabitis possessionem illi, ait DominusDeus.
You wil give the alien his heritage in the tribe where he has settled -- declares the Lord Yahweh." '
