NOVA VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
Et vidi: et ecce super fir mamentum, quod erat super caput cherubim, quasi lapis sapphirus, quasi species similitudinis solii apparuit super ea.1 Then, in vision I saw that above the solid surface over the heads of the winged creatures there wasabove them something like sapphire, which seemed to be like a throne.
He then said to the man dressed in linen, 'Go in between the wheels below the winged creatures; takea handful of burning coal from between the winged creatures and scatter it over the city.' He went in as Iwatched.
Cherubim autem stabant a dextris domus, cum ingrederetur vir, et nubesimplevit atrium interius.3 The winged creatures were on the right of the Temple as the man went in, and the cloud fil ed theinner court.
Et elevata est gloria Domini desuper cherub ad limendomus, et repleta est domus nube, et atrium repletum est splendore gloriaeDomini.4 The glory of Yahweh rose from above the winged creatures, towards the threshold of the Temple; theTemple was fil ed by the cloud and the court was full of the brightness of the glory of Yahweh.
Et sonitus alarum cherubim audiebatur usque ad atrium exterius, quasivox Dei omnipotentis loquentis.
The noise of the winged creatures' wings could be heard even in the outer court, like the voice of GodAlmighty when he speaks.
Cumque praecepisset viro, qui indutus erat lineis, dicens: “ Sume ignem demedio rotarum, de medio cherubim ”, ingressus ille stetit iuxta rotam;6 When he had given the order to the man dressed in linen, 'Take the fire from between the wheels, between the winged creatures,' the man went in and stood by one of the wheels.
etextendit cherub manum de medio cherubim ad ignem, qui erat inter cherubim, etsumpsit et dedit in manus eius, qui indutus erat lineis; qui accipiens egressusest.7 One of the winged creatures then reached his hand out towards the fire between the wingedcreatures, took some of it and put it into the hands of the man dressed in linen, who took it and came out again.
Et apparuit in cherubim similitudo manus hominis subtus pennas eorum,8 There appeared to be what looked like a human hand under the winged creatures' wings.
et vidi: et ecce quattuor rotae iuxta cherubim; rota una iuxta cherub unum, etrota alia iuxta cherub unum, species autem rotarum erat quasi species lapidischrysolithi,9 And I looked, and there were four wheels beside the winged creatures, one wheel beside each wingedcreature, and the appearance of the wheels was like the sparkle of chrysolite.
et aspectus earum similitudo una illis quattuor, quasi sit rotain medio rotae.10 In appearance, al four looked alike, as though each wheel had another wheel inside it.
Cumque ambularent in quattuor partes, gradiebantur et nonconvertebantur ambulantes, sed ad locum, ad quem ire declinabat quae prima erat, sequebantur et ceterae nec convertebantur, cum ambularent.11 In whichever of the four directions they moved, they did not need to turn as they moved, butwhichever way the head was facing there they fol owed; they did not turn as they moved,
Et omne corpuseorum et terga et manus et pennae et rotae plena erant oculis in circuitu illisquattuor;12 and their entire bodies, their backs, their hands, their wings, as wel as the wheels, had eyes al theway round (the wheels of al four).
et rotae istae vocatae sunt Volubiles, audiente me.13 In my hearing, these wheels were called 'galgal'.
Quattuorautem facies habebat unumquodque: facies prima facies cherub, et facies secundafacies hominis, et tertia facies leonis, et quarta facies aquilae.14 Each had four faces; the first was a winged creature's face, the second a human face, the third alion's face and the fourth an eagle's face.
Et elevatisunt cherubim: ipsum est animal, quod videram iuxta fluvium Chobar.15 The winged creatures rose; this was the being I had seen by the River Chebar.
Cumqueambularent, cherubim ibant pariter, et rotae iuxta ea; et cum elevarent cherubimalas suas, ut exaltarentur de terra, non convertebantur rotae, sed et ipsaeiuxta erant.16 When the winged creatures moved, the wheels moved beside them; and when the winged creaturesraised their wings to leave the ground, the wheels did not turn beside them.
Stantibus illis, stabant et cum elevatis elevabantur; spiritusenim animalium erat in eis.17 When the former halted the latter halted; when the former rose, the latter rose with them, since theyshared the same living spirit.
Et egressa est gloria Domini a limine templi et stetit super cherubim;18 The glory of Yahweh then came out over the Temple threshold and paused over the wingedcreatures.
etelevantes cherubim alas suas exaltata sunt a terra coram me, et, illisegredientibus, rotae quoque subsecutae sunt; et stetit in introitu portae domusDomini orientalis, et gloria Dei Israel erat super eos.19 These raised their wings and rose from the ground as I watched, and the wheels were beside them. They paused at the entrance to the east gate of the Temple of Yahweh, with the glory of the God of Israel over them, above.
Ipsum est animal, quod vidi subter Deum Israel iuxta fluvium Chobar, et intellexi quia cherubimessent.20 This was the winged creature I had seen beneath the God of Israel by the River Chebar; I knew thatthey were winged creatures.
Quattuor per quattuor vultus unicuique, et quattuor alae unicuique,et similitudo manus hominis sub alis eorum;21 Each had four faces and four wings and what seemed to be human hands under their wings.
et similitudo vultuum eorum, ipsivultus quorum aspectum videram iuxta fluvium Chobar. Et singuli ante faciem suamgradiebantur.
Their faces were like those I had seen by the River Chebar. Each one moved straight forward.
