Levitico 24

NOVA VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Et locutus est Dominus ad Moysen dicens:	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
2 “ Praecipe fi liis Israel, ut afferant tibi oleum de olivis purissimum ac lucidum ad concinnandas lucernas candelabri iugiter.	2 'Order the Israelites to bring you crushed-olive oil for the lamp-stand, and keep a flame burning therecontinual y.
3 Extra velum testimonii in tabernaculo conventus parabit illud Aaron a vespere usque ad mane coram Domino iugiter, ritu perpetuo in generationibus vestris.	3 Aaron wil keep it permanently in trim from evening to morning, outside the curtain of the Testimony inthe Tent of Meeting, before Yahweh. This is a perpetual decree for your descendants:
4 Super candelabro mundissimo parabit lucernas semper in conspectu Domini.	4 Aaron wil keep the lamps permanently trimmed on the pure lamp-stand before Yahweh.
5 Accipies quoque similam et coques ex ea duodecim panes, qui singuli habebunt duas decimas,	5 'You will take wheaten flour and with it bake twelve loaves, each of two-tenths of an ephah.
6 quorum senos altrinsecus super mensam purissimam coram Domino statues.	6 You will then place them in two rows of six on the pure table before Yahweh
7 Et pones super ambas strues tus lucidissimum, ut sit panis in memoriale, incensum Domino.	7 and put pure incense on each row, to make it food offered as a memorial, food burnt for Yahweh.
8 Per singula sabbata mutabuntur coram Domino suscepti a filiis Israel; foedus sempiternum.	8 Every Sabbath they wil be arranged before Yahweh. The Israelites wil provide them as a permanentcovenant.
9 Eruntque Aaron et filiorum eius, ut comedant eos in loco sancto, quia sanctum sanctorum est ei de incensis Domini; iure perpetuo ”.	9 They wil belong to Aaron and his sons, who wil eat them inside the holy place since, for him, they arean especial y holy part of the food burnt for Yahweh. This is a permanent law.'
10 Ecce autem egressus filius mulieris Israelitis, quem pepererat de viro Aegyptio inter filios Israel, iurgatus est in castris cum viro Israelita.	10 There was a man whose mother was an Israelite woman and whose father was an Egyptian. Hecame out of his house and, in the camp, surrounded by the Israelites, he began to quarrel with a man who wasan Israelite.
11 Cumque blasphemasset nomen et maledixisset ei, adductus est ad Moysen; vocabatur autem mater eius Salomith filia Dabri de tribu Dan.	11 Now the son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name and cursed it. He was then taken toMoses (his mother's name was Shelomith daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan).
12 Miseruntque eum in custodiam, donec nossent quid iuberet Dominus.	12 He was then put under guard until Yahweh's will should be made clear to them.
13 Qui locutus est ad Moysen dicens:	13 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
14 “ Educ blasphemum extra castra, et ponant omnes, qui audierunt, manus suas super caput eius, et lapidet eum coetus universus.	14 'Take the man who pronounced the curse outside the camp. Al those who heard him must then laytheir hands on his head, and the whole community must then stone him.
15 Et ad filios Israel loqueris: Homo, qui maledixerit Deo suo, portabit peccatum suum;	15 Then say to the Israelites: "Anyone who curses his God will bear the consequences of his sin,
16 et, qui blasphemaverit nomen Domini, morte moriatur: lapidibus opprimet eum omnis coetus, sive ille peregrinus sive civis fuerit. Qui blasphemaverit nomen Domini, morte moriatur.	16 and anyone who blasphemes the name of Yahweh wil be put to death; the whole community wilstone him; be he alien or native-born, if he blasphemes the Name, he wil be put to death.
17 Qui percusserit et occiderit hominem, morte moriatur.	17 "Anyone who strikes down any other human being will be put to death.
18 Qui percusserit animal, reddet vicarium, id est animam pro anima.	18 "Anyone who strikes down an animal will make restitution for it: a life for a life.
19 Qui irrogaverit maculam cuilibet civium suorum, sicut fecit, sic fiet ei:	19 "Anyone who injures a neighbour shall receive the same in return,
20 fracturam pro fractura, oculum pro oculo, dentem pro dente restituet; qualem inflixerit maculam, talem sustinere cogetur.	20 broken limb for broken limb, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. As the injury inflicted, so will be the injurysuffered.
21 Qui percusserit iumentum, reddet aliud. Qui percusserit hominem, morietur.	21 Whoever strikes down an animal wil make restitution for it, and whoever strikes down a human beingwil be put to death.
22 Aequum iudicium sit inter vos, sive peregrinus sive civis peccaverit; quia ego sum Dominus Deus vester ”.	22 The sentence you pass wil be the same, whether on native-born or on alien; for I am Yahweh yourGod." '
23 Locutusque est Moyses ad filios Israel, et eduxerunt eum, qui blasphemaverat, extra castra, ac lapidibus oppresserunt. Feceruntque filii Israel, sicut praeceperat Dominus Moysi.	23 Moses having told the Israelites this, they took the man who had pronounced the curse out of thecamp and stoned him. And so the Israelites carried out Yahweh's order to Moses.
