Primo libro di Samuele 11

BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Circa un mese dopo, Nacas l'Ammonita si mosse e pose il campo contro Iabes di Gàlaad. Tutti i cittadini di Iabes di Gàlaad dissero allora a Nacas: "Vieni a patti con noi e ti saremo sudditi".	1 About a month later, Nahash the Ammonite marched up and laid siege to Jabesh in Gilead. Al themen of Jabesh said to Nahash, 'Make a treaty with us and we wil be your subjects.'
2 Rispose loro Nacas l'Ammonita: "A queste condizioni mi alleerò con voi: possa io cavare a tutti voi l'occhio destro e porre tale gesto a sfregio di tutto Israele".	2 Nahash the Ammonite replied, 'I shal make a treaty with you only on this condition, that I put out alyour right eyes, and I wil make it a taunt to the whole of Israel.'
3 Di nuovo chiesero gli anziani di Iabes: "Lasciaci sette giorni per inviare messaggeri in tutto il territorio d'Israele. Se nessuno verrà a salvarci, usciremo incontro a te".	3 The elders of Jabesh said to him, 'Give us seven days' grace while we send messengers throughoutthe territory of Israel, and if no one comes to our help, we wil come out to you.'
4 I messaggeri arrivarono a Gàbaa di Saul e riferirono quelle parole davanti al popolo e tutto il popolo levò la voce e pianse.	4 The messengers came to Gibeah of Saul, and reported this to the people, and al the people weptaloud.
5 Or ecco Saul veniva dalla campagna dietro l'armento. Chiese dunque Saul: "Che ha il popolo da piangere?". Riferirono a lui le parole degli uomini di Iabes.	5 Now Saul was just then coming in from the fields behind his oxen, and he said, 'What is wrong? Whyare the people weeping?' They explained to him what the men of Jabesh had said.
6 Lo spirito di Dio investì allora Saul ed egli, appena udite quelle parole, si irritò molto.	6 And the spirit of Yahweh seized on Saul when he heard these words, and he fel into a fury.
7 Poi prese un paio di buoi, li fece a pezzi e ne inviò in tutto il territorio d'Israele mediante messaggeri con questo proclama: "Se qualcuno non uscirà dietro Saul e dietro Samuele, la stessa cosa avverrà dei suoi buoi". Si sparse lo spavento del Signore nel popolo e si mossero come un sol uomo.	7 He took a yoke of oxen, cut them into pieces and sent these by messengers throughout the territory ofIsrael with these words, 'Anyone who wil not march with Saul wil have the same done to his oxen!' At this, apanic from Yahweh swept on the people and they marched out as one man.
8 Saul li passò in rassegna a Bèzek e risultarono trecentomila Israeliti e trentamila di Giuda.	8 Saul inspected them at Bezek; there were three hundred thousand of Israel and thirty thousand ofJudah.
9 Dissero allora ai messaggeri che erano giunti: "Direte ai cittadini di Iabes di Gàlaad: Domani, quando il sole comincerà a scaldare, avverrà la vostra salvezza". I messaggeri partirono e riferirono agli uomini di Iabes, che ne ebbero grande gioia.	9 Then he said to the messengers who had come, 'This is what you are to say to the people of Jabeshin Gilead, "Tomorrow, by the time that the sun is hot, help wil reach you." ' The messengers went and reportedthis to the people of Jabesh who were overjoyed;
10 Allora gli uomini di Iabes diedero risposta a Nacas: "Domani usciremo incontro a voi e ci farete quanto sembrerà bene ai vostri occhi".	10 they said to Nahash, 'Tomorrow we shal come out to you and you can do whatever you like to us.'
11 Il giorno dopo Saul divise il grosso in tre schiere e irruppe in mezzo al campo nemico sul far del mattino; batterono gli Ammoniti finché il giorno si fece caldo. Quelli che scamparono furono dispersi talmente che non ne rimasero due insieme.	11 The next day, Saul disposed the army in three contingents, which burst into the middle of the campduring the dawn watch and slaughtered the Ammonites until high noon. The survivors were so scattered that notwo of them were left together.
12 Il popolo allora disse a Samuele: "Chi ha detto: Dovrà forse regnare Saul su di noi? Consegnaci costoro e li faremo morire".	12 The people then said to Samuel, 'Who said, "Must we have Saul reigning over us?" Hand the menover, for us to put them to death.'
13 Ma Saul disse: "Oggi non si deve far morire nessuno, perché in questo giorno il Signore ha operato una liberazione in Israele".	13 'No one must be put to death today,' Saul said, 'for today Yahweh has intervened to rescue Israel.'
14 Samuele ordinò al popolo: "Su, andiamo a Gàlgala: là inaugureremo il regno".	14 Samuel then said to the people, 'Let us now go to Gilgal and reaffirm the monarchy there.'
15 Tutto il popolo si portò a Gàlgala e là davanti al Signore in Gàlgala riconobbero Saul come re; qui ancora offrirono sacrifici di comunione davanti al Signore e qui fecero grande festa Saul e tutti gli Israeliti.	15 The people then al went to Gilgal. And there, at Gilgal, they proclaimed Saul king before Yahweh;they offered communion sacrifices before Yahweh, and there Saul and al the people of Israel gave themselvesover to great rejoicing.
