Geremia 37

BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Sedecìa figlio di Giosia divenne re al posto di Conìa figlio di Ioiakìm; Nabucodònosor re di Babilonia lo nominò re nel paese di Giuda.	1 Zedekiah son of Josiah became king, succeeding Coniah son of Jehoiakim. Nebuchadnezzar king ofBabylon had made him king of Judah.
2 Ma né lui né i suoi ministri né il popolo del paese ascoltarono le parole che il Signore aveva pronunziate per mezzo del profeta Geremia.	2 But neither he nor his courtiers nor the people of the country paid any attention to the words Yahwehspoke through the prophet Jeremiah.
3 Il re Sedecìa inviò allora Iucàl figlio di Selemia e il sacerdote Sofonia figlio di Maasià dal profeta Geremia per dirgli: "Prega per noi il Signore nostro Dio".	3 King Zedekiah sent Jehucal son of Shelemiah and the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah to the prophetJeremiah with this message, 'Intercede for us with Yahweh our God.'
4 Geremia intanto andava e veniva in mezzo al popolo e non era stato ancora messo in prigione.	4 Now Jeremiah was still moving freely among the people: he had not yet been put in prison.
5 Però l'esercito del faraone era uscito dall'Egitto e i Caldei, che assediavano Gerusalemme, appena ne avevano avuto notizia, si erano allontanati da Gerusalemme.	5 Meanwhile Pharaoh's army was on the move from Egypt and the Chaldaeans besieging Jerusalem hadraised the siege when they heard the news.
6 Allora la parola del Signore fu rivolta al profeta Geremia:	6 Then the word of Yahweh came to the prophet Jeremiah as fol ows,
7 "Dice il Signore Dio di Israele: Riferite al re di Giuda, che vi ha mandati da me per consultarmi: Ecco l'esercito del faraone, uscito in vostro aiuto, ritornerà nel suo paese d'Egitto;	7 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "To the king of Judah who sent you to consult me make this reply: IsPharaoh's army marching to your aid? It wil withdraw to its own country, Egypt.
8 i Caldei ritorneranno, combatteranno contro questa città, la prenderanno e la daranno alle fiamme".	8 The Chaldaeans wil return to attack this city; they will capture it and burn it down.
9 Dice il Signore: "Non illudetevi pensando: Certo i Caldei si allontaneranno da noi, perché non se ne andranno.	9 Yahweh says this: Do not cheer yourselves up by thinking: The Chaldaeans are leaving us for good.They are not leaving.
10 Anche se riusciste a battere tutto l'esercito dei Caldei che combattono contro di voi, e ne rimanessero solo alcuni feriti, costoro sorgerebbero ciascuno dalla sua tenda e darebbero alle fiamme questa città".	10 Even if you cut to pieces the whole Chaldaean army now fighting against you until there were only thewounded left, they would stand up again, each man in his tent, to burn this city down." '
11 Quando l'esercito dei Caldei si allontanò da Gerusalemme a causa dell'esercito del faraone,	11 At the time when the Chaldaean army, threatened by Pharaoh's army, had raised the siege ofJerusalem,
12 Geremia uscì da Gerusalemme per andare nella terra di Beniamino a prendervi una parte di eredità tra i suoi parenti.	12 Jeremiah set out from Jerusalem for the territory of Benjamin to see about a piece of his propertyamong the people there.
13 Ma, quando fu alla porta di Beniamino, dove era un incaricato del servizio di guardia chiamato Ieria figlio di Selemia, figlio di Anania, costui arrestò il profeta Geremia dicendo: "Tu passi ai Caldei!".	13 He was at the Benjamin Gate when the guard commander there, a certain Irijah son of Shelemiah,son of Hananiah, arrested the prophet Jeremiah, shouting, 'You are deserting to the Chaldaeans!'
14 Geremia rispose: "È falso! Io non passo ai Caldei"; ma egli non gli diede retta. E così Ieria prese Geremia e lo condusse dai capi.	14 Jeremiah answered, 'It is a lie! I am not deserting to the Chaldaeans.' But Irijah would not listen toJeremiah and took him under arrest to the chief men.
15 I capi erano sdegnati contro Geremia, lo percossero e lo gettarono in prigione nella casa di Giònata lo scriba, che avevano trasformato in un carcere.	15 And the chief men, furious with Jeremiah, had him beaten and shut up in the house of the scribeJonathan, which had been turned into a prison.
16 Geremia entrò in una cisterna sotterranea a volta e rimase là molti giorni.	16 Thus Jeremiah found himself in an underground vault. And there for a long time he stayed.
17 Il re Sedecìa mandò a prenderlo e lo interrogò in casa sua, di nascosto: "C'è qualche parola da parte del Signore?". Geremia rispose: "Sì" e precisò: "Tu sarai dato in mano al re di Babilonia".	17 Later, King Zedekiah had him sent for, and the king questioned him privately in his palace. 'Is thereany word from Yahweh?' he asked. 'There is,' Jeremiah answered, and added, 'you wil be handed over to theking of Babylon.'
18 Geremia poi disse al re Sedecìa: "Quale colpa ho commesso contro di te, i tuoi ministri e contro questo popolo, perché mi abbiate messo in prigione?	18 Jeremiah then said to King Zedekiah, 'What wrong have I done you, or your courtiers or this people,for you to have put me in prison?
19 E dove sono i vostri profeti, che vi predicevano: Il re di Babilonia non verrà contro di voi e contro questo paese?	19 Where are your prophets now who prophesied, "The king of Babylon wil not attack you or thiscountry"?
20 Ora, ascolta, re mio signore; la mia supplica ti giunga gradita. Non rimandarmi nella casa di Giònata lo scriba, perché io non vi muoia".	20 So now I beg you to hear me, my lord king! I beg you to approve my request! Do not have me takenback to the house of the scribe Jonathan, or I shall die there.'
21 Il re Sedecìa comandò di custodire Geremia nell'atrio della prigione e gli fu data ogni giorno una focaccia di pane proveniente dalla via dei Fornai, finché non fu esaurito tutto il pane in città. Così Geremia rimase nell'atrio della prigione.	21 King Zedekiah then gave an order, and Jeremiah was confined in the Court of the Guard and given aloaf of bread a day from the Street of the Bakers as long as there was bread left in the city. So Jeremiah stayedin the Court of the Guard.
