1 Queste sono le parole della lettera che il profeta Geremia mandò da Gerusalemme al resto degli anziani in esilio, ai sacerdoti, ai profeti e a tutto il resto del popolo che Nabucodònosor aveva deportato da Gerusalemme a Babilonia; la mandò	1 This is the contents of the letter which the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to the remaining elders among the exiles, to the priests, the prophets, and all the people who were exiled by Nebuchadnezzar from Jerusalem to Babylon.
2 dopo che il re Ieconia, la regina madre, i dignitari di corte, i capi di Giuda e di Gerusalemme, gli artigiani e i fabbri erano partiti da Gerusalemme.	2 This was after King Jeconiah and the queen mother, the courtiers, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, the artisans and the skilled workmen had left Jerusalem.
3 Fu recata per mezzo di Elasà figlio di Safàn e di Ghemarìa figlio di Chelkia, che Sedecìa re di Giuda aveva inviati a Nabucodònosor re di Babilonia, in Babilonia. Essa diceva:	3 Delivered in Babylon by Elasah, son of Shaphan, and by Gemariah, son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah, king of Judah, sent to the king of Babylon, the letter read:
4 "Così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio di Israele, a tutti gli esuli che ho fatto deportare da Gerusalemme a Babilonia:	4 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I exiled from Jerusalem to Babylon:
5 Costruite case e abitatele, piantate orti e mangiatene i frutti;	5 Build houses to dwell in; plant gardens, and eat their fruits.
6 prendete moglie e mettete al mondo figli e figlie, scegliete mogli per i figli e maritate le figlie; costoro abbiano figlie e figli. Moltiplicatevi lì e non diminuite.	6 Take wives and beget sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters husbands, so that they may bear sons and daughters. There you must increase in number, not decrease.
7 Cercate il benessere del paese in cui vi ho fatto deportare. Pregate il Signore per esso, perché dal suo benessere dipende il vostro benessere.	7 Promote the welfare of the city to which I have exiled you; pray for it to the LORD, for upon its welfare depends your own.
8 Così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio di Israele: Non vi traggano in errore i profeti che sono in mezzo a voi e i vostri indovini; non date retta ai sogni, che essi sognano.	8 thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let yourselves be deceived by the prophets and diviners who are among you; do not listen to those among you who dream dreams.
9 Poiché con inganno parlano come profeti a voi in mio nome; io non li ho inviati. Oracolo del Signore.	9 For they prophesy lies to you in my name; I did not send them, says the LORD.
10 Pertanto dice il Signore: Solamente quando saranno compiuti, riguardo a Babilonia, settanta anni, vi visiterò e realizzerò per voi la mia buona promessa di ricondurvi in questo luogo.	10 Thus says the LORD: Only after seventy years have elapsed for Babylon will I visit you and fulfill for you my promise to bring you back to this place.
11 Io, infatti, conosco i progetti che ho fatto a vostro riguardo - dice il Signore - progetti di pace e non di sventura, per concedervi un futuro pieno di speranza.	11 For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the LORD, plans for your welfare, not for woe! plans to give you a future full of hope.
12 Voi mi invocherete e ricorrerete a me e io vi esaudirò;	12 When you call me, when you go to pray to me, I will listen to you.
13 mi cercherete e mi troverete, perché mi cercherete con tutto il cuore;	13 When you look for me, you will find me. Yes, when you seek me with all your heart,
14 mi lascerò trovare da voi - dice il Signore - cambierò in meglio la vostra sorte e vi radunerò da tutte le nazioni e da tutti i luoghi dove vi ho disperso - dice il Signore - vi ricondurrò nel luogo da dove vi ho fatto condurre in esilio.	14 you will find me with you, says the LORD, and I will change your lot; I will gather you together from all the nations and all the places to which I have banished you, says the LORD, and bring you back to the place from which I have exiled you.
15 Certo voi dite: Il Signore ci ha suscitato profeti in Babilonia.	15 As for your saying, "The LORD has raised up for us prophets here in Babylon"--
16 Ebbene, queste le parole del Signore al re che siede sul trono di Davide e a tutto il popolo che abita in questa città, ai vostri fratelli che non sono partiti con voi nella deportazione;	16 Thus says the LORD concerning the king who sits on David's throne, and all the people who remain in this city, your brethren who did not go with you into exile;
17 dice il Signore degli eserciti: Ecco, io manderò contro di essi la spada, la fame e la peste e li renderò come i fichi guasti, che non si possono mangiare tanto sono cattivi.	17 thus says the LORD of hosts: I am sending against them sword, famine and pestilence. I will make them like rotten figs, too bad to be eaten.
18 Li perseguiterò con la spada, la fame e la peste; li farò oggetto di orrore per tutti i regni della terra, oggetto di maledizione, di stupore, di scherno e di obbrobrio in tutte le nazioni nelle quali li ho dispersi,	18 I will pursue them with sword, famine, and pestilence, and make them an object of horror to all the kingdoms of the earth, of malediction, astonishment, ridicule, and reproach to all the nations among which I will banish them.
19 perché non hanno ascoltato le mie parole - dice il Signore - quando mandavo loro i miei servi, i profeti, con continua premura, eppure essi non hanno ascoltato. Oracolo del Signore.	19 For they did not listen to my words, says the LORD, though I kept sending them my servants the prophets, only to have them go unheeded, says the LORD.
20 Voi però ascoltate la parola del Signore, voi deportati tutti, che io ho mandato da Gerusalemme a Babilonia.	20 You, now, listen to the word of the LORD, all you exiles whom I sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon.
21 Così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio di Israele, riguardo ad Acab figlio di Kolaià, e a Sedecìa figlio di Maasià, che vi predicono menzogne in mio nome: Ecco, li darò in mano a Nabucodònosor re di Babilonia, il quale li ucciderà sotto i vostri occhi.	21 This is what the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, has to say about those who prophesy lies to you in my name, Ahab, son of Kolaiah, and Zedekiah, son of Maaseiah: I am handing them over to Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, who will slay them before your eyes.
22 Da essi si trarrà una formula di maledizione in uso presso tutti i deportati di Giuda in Babilonia e si dirà: Il Signore ti tratti come Sedecìa e Acab, che il re di Babilonia fece arrostire sul fuoco!	22 All the exiles of Judah in Babylon will pattern a curse after them: "May the LORD make you like Zedekiah and Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the flames."
23 Poiché essi hanno operato cose nefande in Gerusalemme, hanno commesso adulterio con le mogli del prossimo, hanno proferito in mio nome parole senza che io avessi dato loro alcun ordine. Io stesso lo so bene e ne sono testimone. Oracolo del Signore".	23 For they are criminals in Israel, committing adultery with their neighbors' wives, and alleging in my name things I did not command. I know, I am witness, says the LORD.
24 A Semaià il Nechelamita tu riferirai queste parole:	24 Say this to Shemaiah, the Nehelamite:
25 "Così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio di Israele: Perché hai mandato in tuo nome lettere a tutto il popolo di Gerusalemme e a Sofonia figlio di Maasià, il sacerdote, e a tutti i sacerdoti, dicendo:	25 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Because you sent letters on your own authority to all the people of Jerusalem, to all the priests and to Zephaniah, the priest, son of Maaseiah, with this message:
26 Il Signore ti ha costituito sacerdote al posto del sacerdote Ioiadà, perché fossi sovrintendente nel tempio del Signore, per reprimere qualunque forsennato che vuol fare il profeta, ponendolo in ceppi e in catene.	26 "The LORD has appointed you priest in place of the priest Jehoiada, so that there may be police officers in the house of the LORD, to take action against all madmen and those who pose as prophets, by putting them into the stocks or the pillory.
27 Orbene, perché non reprimi Geremia da Anatòt, che fa profezie fra di voi?	27 Why, then, do you not rebuke Jeremiah of Anathoth who poses as a prophet among you?
28 Infatti egli ci ha mandato a dire in Babilonia: Sarà lunga la cosa! Edificate case e abitatele, piantate orti e mangiatene i frutti!".	28 For he sent us in Babylon this message: It will be a long time; build houses to live in; plant gardens and eat their fruits. . . ."
29 Il sacerdote Sofonia lesse questa lettera in presenza del profeta Geremia.	29 When the priest Zephaniah read this letter to the prophet,
30 Allora la parola del Signore fu rivolta a Geremia:	30 the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
31 "Invia questo messaggio a tutti i deportati: Così dice il Signore riguardo a Semaià il Nechelamita: Poiché Semaià ha parlato a voi come profeta mentre io non l'avevo mandato e vi ha fatto confidare nella menzogna,	31 Send the message to all the exiles: Thus says the LORD concerning Shemaiah, the Nehelamite: Because Shemaiah prophesies to you without a mission from me, and raises false confidence,
32 per questo dice il Signore: Ecco punirò Semaià il Nechelamita e la sua discendenza; nessuno dei suoi dimorerà in mezzo a questo popolo, né vedrà il bene che farò al mio popolo - dice il Signore - perché ha predicato la ribellione contro il Signore".	32 says the LORD, I will therefore punish Shemaiah, the Nehelamite, and his offspring. None of them shall survive among this people to see the good I will do to this people, says the LORD, because he preached rebellion against the LORD.
