BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 La Sapienza forse non chiama e la prudenza non fa udir la voce?	1 Is not Wisdom cal ing? Is not Understanding raising her voice?
2 In cima alle alture, lungo la via, nei crocicchi delle strade essa si è posta,	2 On the heights overlooking the road, at the crossways, she takes her stand;
3 presso le porte, all'ingresso della città, sulle soglie degli usci essa esclama:	3 by the gates, at the entrance to the city, on the access-roads, she cries out,
4 "A voi, uomini, io mi rivolgo, ai figli dell'uomo è diretta la mia voce.	4 'I am cal ing to you, al people, my words are addressed to al humanity.
5 Imparate, inesperti, la prudenza e voi, stolti, fatevi assennati.	5 Simpletons, learn how to behave, fools, come to your senses.
6 Ascoltate, perché dirò cose elevate, dalle mie labbra usciranno sentenze giuste,	6 Listen, I have something important to tel you, when I speak, my words are right.
7 perché la mia bocca proclama la verità e abominio per le mie labbra è l'empietà.	7 My mouth proclaims the truth, for evil is abhorrent to my lips.
8 Tutte le parole della mia bocca sono giuste; niente vi è in esse di fallace o perverso;	8 Al the words from my mouth are upright, nothing false there, nothing crooked,
9 tutte sono leali per chi le comprende e rette per chi possiede la scienza.	9 everything plain, if you can understand, straight, if you have acquired knowledge.
10 Accettate la mia istruzione e non l'argento, la scienza anziché l'oro fino,	10 Accept my discipline rather than silver, and knowledge of me in preference to finest gold.
11 perché la scienza vale più delle perle e nessuna cosa preziosa l'uguaglia".	11 For Wisdom is more precious than jewels, and nothing else is so worthy of desire.
12 Io, la Sapienza, possiedo la prudenza e ho la scienza e la riflessione.	12 'I, Wisdom, share house with Discretion, I am mistress of the art of thought.
13 Temere il Signore è odiare il male: io detesto la superbia, l'arroganza, la cattiva condotta e la bocca perversa.	13 (Fear of Yahweh means hatred of evil.) I hate pride and arrogance, wicked behaviour and a lyingmouth.
14 A me appartiene il consiglio e il buon senso, io sono l'intelligenza, a me appartiene la potenza.	14 To me belong good advice and prudence, I am perception: power is mine!
15 Per mezzo mio regnano i re e i magistrati emettono giusti decreti;	15 By me monarchs rule and princes decree what is right;
16 per mezzo mio i capi comandano e i grandi governano con giustizia.	16 by me rulers govern, so do nobles, the lawful authorities.
17 Io amo coloro che mi amano e quelli che mi cercano mi troveranno.	17 I love those who love me; whoever searches eagerly for me finds me.
18 Presso di me c'è ricchezza e onore, sicuro benessere ed equità.	18 With me are riches and honour, lasting wealth and saving justice.
19 Il mio frutto val più dell'oro, dell'oro fino, il mio provento più dell'argento scelto.	19 The fruit I give is better than gold, even the finest, the return I make is better than pure silver.
20 Io cammino sulla via della giustizia e per i sentieri dell'equità,	20 I walk in the way of uprightness in the path of justice,
21 per dotare di beni quanti mi amano e riempire i loro forzieri.	21 to endow my friends with my wealth and to fil their treasuries.
22 Il Signore mi ha creato all'inizio della sua attività, prima di ogni sua opera, fin d'allora.	22 'Yahweh created me, first-fruits of his fashioning, before the oldest of his works.
23 Dall'eternità sono stata costituita, fin dal principio, dagli inizi della terra.	23 From everlasting, I was firmly set, from the beginning, before the earth came into being.
24 Quando non esistevano gli abissi, io fui generata; quando ancora non vi erano le sorgenti cariche d'acqua;	24 The deep was not, when I was born, nor were the springs with their abounding waters.
25 prima che fossero fissate le basi dei monti, prima delle colline, io sono stata generata.	25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hil s, I came to birth;
26 Quando ancora non aveva fatto la terra e i campi, né le prime zolle del mondo;	26 before he had made the earth, the countryside, and the first elements of the world.
27 quando egli fissava i cieli, io ero là; quando tracciava un cerchio sull'abisso;	27 When he fixed the heavens firm, I was there, when he drew a circle on the surface of the deep,
28 quando condensava le nubi in alto, quando fissava le sorgenti dell'abisso;	28 when he thickened the clouds above, when the sources of the deep began to swel ,
29 quando stabiliva al mare i suoi limiti, sicché le acque non ne oltrepassassero la spiaggia; quando disponeva le fondamenta della terra,	29 when he assigned the sea its boundaries -- and the waters will not encroach on the shore -- when hetraced the foundations of the earth,
30 allora io ero con lui come architetto ed ero la sua delizia ogni giorno, dilettandomi davanti a lui in ogni istante;	30 I was beside the master craftsman, delighting him day after day, ever at play in his presence,
31 dilettandomi sul globo terrestre, ponendo le mie delizie tra i figli dell'uomo.	31 at play everywhere on his earth, delighting to be with the children of men.
32 Ora, figli, ascoltatemi: beati quelli che seguono le mie vie!	32 'And now, my children, listen to me. Happy are those who keep my ways.
33 Ascoltate l'esortazione e siate saggi, non trascuratela!	33 Listen to instruction and become wise, do not reject it.
34 Beato l'uomo che mi ascolta, vegliando ogni giorno alle mie porte, per custodire attentamente la soglia.	34 Blessed, whoever listens to me, who day after day keeps watch at my gates to guard my portals.
35 Infatti, chi trova me trova la vita, e ottiene favore dal Signore;	35 For whoever finds me finds life, and obtains the favour of Yahweh;
36 ma chi pecca contro di me, danneggia se stesso; quanti mi odiano amano la morte".	36 but whoever misses me harms himself, al who hate me are in love with death.'
