1 L'empio fugge anche se nessuno lo insegue, mentre il giusto è sicuro come un giovane leone.	1 The wicked man flees although no one pursues him; but the just man, like a lion, feels sure of himself.
2 Per i delitti di un paese molti sono i suoi tiranni, ma con un uomo intelligente e saggio l'ordine si mantiene.	2 If a land is rebellious, its princes will be many; but with a prudent man it knows security.
3 Un uomo empio che opprime i miseri è una pioggia torrenziale che non porta pane.	3 A rich man who oppresses the poor is like a devastating rain that leaves no food.
4 Quelli che violano la legge lodano l'empio, ma quanti osservano la legge gli muovono guerra.	4 Those who abandon the law praise the wicked man, but those who keep the law war against him.
5 I malvagi non comprendono la giustizia, ma quelli che cercano il Signore comprendono tutto.	5 Evil men understand nothing of justice, but those who seek the LORD understand all.
6 Meglio un povero dalla condotta integra che uno dai costumi perversi, anche se ricco.	6 Better a poor man who walks in his integrity than he who is crooked in his ways and rich.
7 Chi osserva la legge è un figlio intelligente, chi frequenta i crapuloni disonora suo padre.	7 He who keeps the law is a wise son, but the gluttons' companion disgraces his father.
8 Chi accresce il patrimonio con l'usura e l'interesse, lo accumula per chi ha pietà dei miseri.	8 He who increases his wealth by interest and overcharge gathers it for him who is kind to the poor.
9 Chi volge altrove l'orecchio per non ascoltare la legge, anche la sua preghiera è in abominio.	9 When one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.
10 Chi fa traviare gli uomini retti per una cattiva strada, cadrà egli stesso nella fossa, mentre gli integri possederanno fortune.	10 He who seduces the upright into an evil way will himself fall into his own pit. (And blameless men will gain prosperity.)
11 Il ricco si crede saggio, ma il povero intelligente lo scruta bene.	11 The rich man is wise in his own eyes, but a poor man who is intelligent sees through him.
12 Grande è la gioia quando trionfano i giusti, ma se prevalgono gli empi ognuno si nasconde.	12 When the just are triumphant, there is great jubilation; but when the wicked gain preeminence, people hide.
13 Chi nasconde le proprie colpe non avrà successo; chi le confessa e cessa di farle troverà indulgenza.	13 He who conceals his sins prospers not, but he who confesses and forsakes them obtains mercy.
14 Beato l'uomo che teme sempre, chi indurisce il cuore cadrà nel male.	14 Happy the man who is always on his guard; but he who hardens his heart will fall into evil.
15 Leone ruggente e orso affamato, tale è il malvagio che domina su un popolo povero.	15 Like a roaring lion or a ravenous bear is a wicked ruler over a poor people.
16 Un principe privo di senno moltiplica le vessazioni, ma chi odia la rapina prolungherà i suoi giorni.	16 The less prudent the prince, the more his deeds oppress. He who hates ill-gotten gain prolongs his days.
17 Un uomo perseguitato per omicidio fuggirà fino alla tomba: nessuno lo soccorre.	17 Though a man burdened with human blood were to flee to the grave, none should support him.
18 Chi procede con rettitudine sarà salvato, chi va per vie tortuose cadrà ad un tratto.	18 He who walks uprightly is safe, but he whose ways are crooked falls into the pit.
19 Chi lavora la sua terra si sazierà di pane, chi insegue chimere si sazierà di miseria.	19 He who cultivates his land will have plenty of food, but from idle pursuits a man has his fill of poverty.
20 L'uomo leale sarà colmo di benedizioni, chi si arricchisce in fretta non sarà esente da colpa.	20 The trustworthy man will be richly blessed; he who is in haste to grow rich will not go unpunished.
21 Non è bene essere parziali, per un pezzo di pane si pecca.	21 To show partiality is never good: for even a morsel of bread a man may do wrong.
22 L'uomo dall'occhio cupido è impaziente di arricchire e non pensa che gli piomberà addosso la miseria.	22 The avaricious man is perturbed about his wealth, and he knows not when want will come upon him.
23 Chi corregge un altro troverà in fine più favore di chi ha una lingua adulatrice.	23 He who rebukes a man gets more thanks in the end than one with a flattering tongue.
24 Chi deruba il padre o la madre e dice: "Non è peccato", è compagno dell'assassino.	24 He who defrauds father or mother and calls it no sin, is a partner of the brigand.
25 L'uomo avido suscita litigi, ma chi confida nel Signore avrà successo.	25 The greedy man stirs up disputes, but he who trusts in the LORD will prosper.
26 Chi confida nel suo senno è uno stolto, chi si comporta con saggezza sarà salvato.	26 He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is safe.
27 Per chi dà al povero non c'è indigenza, ma chi chiude gli occhi avrà grandi maledizioni.	27 He who gives to the poor suffers no want, but he who ignores them gets many a curse.
28 Se prevalgono gli empi, tutti si nascondono, se essi periscono, sono potenti i giusti.	28 When the wicked gain pre-eminence, other men hide; but at their fall the just flourish.
