| 1 Quanti sono sotto il giogo come schiavi, considerino i propri padroni degni di ogni rispetto, per non gettar discredito sul nome di Dio e la sua dottrina. | 1 Whoever are servants under the yoke, let them consider their masters to be worthy of every honor, lest the name and doctrine of the Lord be blasphemed. |
| 2 Quelli poi che hanno padroni credenti, non li trattino con minor reverendo il fatto che sono fratelli; anzi lì servano meglio, proprio perché sono padroni credenti e amati. Ecco ciò che devi insegnare e raccomandare. | 2 But those who have believing masters, let them not despise them because they are brothers, but rather serve them all the more because they are believing and beloved, participants of the same service. Teach and exhort these things. |
| 3 Se qualcuno insegna altre dottrine e non aderisce alle sane norme del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo e al suo insegnamento conforme a pietà, | 3 If anyone teaches otherwise, and does not consent to the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to that doctrine which is in accord with piety, |
| 4 costui è accecato, irresponsabile, malato di quello spirito litigioso e parolaio che è germe di invidia, discordie, ingiurie, sospetti maligni, | 4 then he is arrogant, knowing nothing, yet languishing amid the questions and quarrels of words. From these arise envy, contention, blasphemy, evil suspicions: |
| 5 attriti; pascolo d’uomini corrotti nello spirito e brancolanti nell'errore, illusi di avere nella pietà una fonte di guadagno. | 5 the conflicts of men who have been corrupted in mind and deprived of truth, who consider profit to be piety. |

| 7 Niente portammo nel il sog, né possiamo portar via qualcosa. | 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and there is no doubt that we can take nothing away. |
| 8 Se abbiamo vitto e vestito, sappiamo dunque contentarci. | 8 But, having nourishment and some kind of covering, we should be content with these. |
| 9 Quelli invece che vogliono arricchire, cadono nella tentazione e nel tranello d’ogni genere di cupidigie insensate e deleterie, che immergono gli uomini nella rovina e nella perdizione. | 9 For those who want to become rich fall into temptation and into the snare of the devil and into many useless and harmful desires, which submerge men in destruction and in perdition. |
| 10 Radice infatti di tutti i mali è l’amore del denaro. Quanti, protesi verso di esso, si sono smarriti lontano fede e si sono trafitto l’animo d’angosce senza numero! | 10 For desire is the root of all evils. Some persons, hungering in this way, have strayed from the faith and have entangled themselves in many sorrows. |
| 11 Ma tu, o uomo di Dio, fuggi tutto questo; persegui invece giustizia, pietà, fede, carità, pazienza, dolcezza. | 11 But you, O man of God, flee from these things, and truly pursue justice, piety, faith, charity, patience, meekness. |
| 12 Combatti il buon combattimento della fede, conquista l’eterna vita alla quale fosti chiamato e per la quale facesti, in presenza di molti testimoni, A tua Lella professione di fede. | 12 Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you have been called, and make a good profession of faith in the sight of many witnesses. |

| 15 che, a suo tempo, egli farà rifulgere: lui, il beato e unico sovrano, il re dei re e Signore dei signori, | 15 For at the proper time, he shall reveal the blessed and only Power, the King of kings and the Lord of lords, |
| 16 l’unico immortale, che abita in una luce inaccessibile, che nessuno degli uomini vide né può vedere. A lui onore e potenza eterna. | 17 Ai ricchi di questo secolo comanda di non montare in superbia e di non mettere la loro speranza in ricchezze precarie, ma in quel Dio che ci fornisce tutto con abbondanza perché ne godiamo, | 17 Instruct the wealthy of this age not to have a superior attitude, nor to hope in the uncertainty of riches, but in the living God, who offers us everything in abundance to enjoy, |
| 18 di far del bene, di arricchire d’opere buone, di essere generosi, socievoli, | 18 and to do good, to become rich in good works, to donate readily, to share, |
| 19 tesoreggiando per se stessi un buon fondo per il futuro, per conquistare la vera vita. | 19 to gather for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may obtain true life. |
| 20 O Timoteo, custodisci il deposito che ti confido, schiva le vuote chiacchiere profane e le diatribe della pretesa gnosi | 20 O Timothy, guard what has been deposited with you, avoiding the voice of profane novelties and of opposing ideas, which are falsely called knowledge. |
| 21 che molti promettono, ma naufragando nella fede. La grazia di Dio sia con voi! | 21 Certain persons, promising these things, have perished from the faith. May grace be with you. Amen. |
