| 1 Apri, o Libano, le tue porte, e il fuoco divori i tuoi cedri. | 1 Open your doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour your cedars! |
| 2 Urla, cipresso, poiché il cedro è caduto: - i vigorosi sono devastati. Urlate, querce di Bashan, poiché l’impenetrabile foresta è precipitata; | 2 Wail, O cypress, for the cedar has fallen, for the glorious trees are ruined! Wail, oaks of Bashan, for the thick forest has been felled! |
| 3 Forte vociare di pastori, perché è devastato il loro splendore! Forte ruggito di leoncelli, perché è devastata la magnificenza del Giordano! | 3 Hark, the wail of the shepherds, for their glory is despoiled! Hark, the roar of the lions, for the jungle of the Jordan is laid waste! |
| 4 Così dice Jahvè mio Dio: «Pasci le pecore destinate al macello, | 4 Thus said the LORD my God: "Become shepherd of the flock doomed to slaughter. |
| 5 che i loro compratori scannano impunemente; i cui venditori icona: «“Sja benedetto Jahvè, perché io sono diventato così ricco”; di cui i pastori non hanno pietà. ( | 5 Those who buy them slay them and go unpunished; and those who sell them say, 'Blessed be the LORD, I have become rich'; and their own shepherds have no pity on them. |
| 6 Poiché ormai non avrò più pietà degli abitanti del paese — oracolo di Jahvè —: ed ecco io lascerò che gli uomini vadano a finire ciascuno nelle mani del suo pastore e nelle mani del suo re, che faranno piazza pulita del paese; e io non li salverò dalle loro mani)». | 6 For I will no longer have pity on the inhabitants of this land, says the LORD. Lo, I will cause men to fall each into the hand of his shepherd, and each into the hand of his king; and they shall crush the earth, and I will deliver none from their hand." |
| 7 Così pascolai le pecore destinate al macello per i mercanti di pecore; mi presi due bastoni; uno chiamai «Grazia», l’altro «Unione»; poi pascolai le pecore, | 7 So I became the shepherd of the flock doomed to be slain for those who trafficked in the sheep. And I took two staffs; one I named Grace, the other I named Union. And I tended the sheep. |
| 8 e feci sparire i tre pastori in un mese. Ma la mia anima fu infastidita di loro, mentre anch’essi diventavano ostili con me. | 8 In one month I destroyed the three shepherds. But I became impatient with them, and they also detested me. |
| 9 Allora dissi: «Non voglio più essere il vostro pastore: quella che deve morire muoia; quella che deve sparire sparisca e le rimanenti si mangino l’una le carni dell’altra». | 9 So I said, "I will not be your shepherd. What is to die, let it die; what is to be destroyed, let it be destroyed; and let those that are left devour the flesh of one another." |
| 10 Allora presi il mio bastone «Grazia» e lo spezzai: rompendo così l’alleanza che avevo stipulato con tutti i popoli. | 10 And I took my staff Grace, and I broke it, annulling the covenant which I had made with all the peoples. |
| 11 E fu rotta in quel giorno. Allora i mercanti di pecore, che mi osservavano, seppero che quella era una parola di Jahvè. | 11 So it was annulled on that day, and the traffickers in the sheep, who were watching me, knew that it was the word of the LORD. |
| 12 Dissi loro: «Se pare bene ai vostri occhi, datemi la mia paga; se no, lasciate stare». Allora pesarono trenta sicli d’argento come mia paga. | 12 Then I said to them, "If it seems right to you, give me my wages; but if not, keep them." And they weighed out as my wages thirty shekels of silver. |
| 13 Jahvè mi disse: «Gettalo nel tesoro il magnifico prezzo, secondo il quale sono stato valutato da loro». Presi i trenta sicli d’argento e li gettai nel tempio di Jahvè, nel tesoro. | 13 Then the LORD said to me, "Cast it into the treasury" --the lordly price at which I was paid off by them. So I took the thirty shekels of silver and cast them into the treasury in the house of the LORD. |
| 14 Quindi spezzai il mio secondo bastone «Unione», rompendo così la fratellanza tra Giuda e Israele. | 14 Then I broke my second staff Union, annulling the brotherhood between Judah and Israel. |
| 15 Jahvè mi parlò di nuovo: «Prenditi l’attrezzatura di un pastore, di un insensato: | 15 Then the LORD said to me, "Take once more the implements of a worthless shepherd. |
| 16 poiché ecco susciterò nel paese un pastore, che non si curerà di quanto sparisce, non cercherà quanto va vagando, non presterà cure a quanto è fiaccato, non sostenterà quanto ancora si regge in piedi; anzi, mangerà la carne degli animali grassi e strapperà loro le unghie. | 16 For lo, I am raising up in the land a shepherd who does not care for the perishing, or seek the wandering, or heal the maimed, or nourish the sound, but devours the flesh of the fat ones, tearing off even their hoofs. |
| 17 Guai al pastore inetto, che trascura le pecore. La spada sul suo braccio e sul suo occhio destro! Il suo braccio diventi tutto secco e il suo occhio destro gli si offuschi tutto». | 17 Woe to my worthless shepherd, who deserts the flock! May the sword smite his arm and his right eye! Let his arm be wholly withered, his right eye utterly blinded!" |
