| 2 Un Dio geloso e vendicatore è Jahvè, vendicatore è Jahvè e pieno d’ira. Vendicatore è Jahvè riguardo ai suoi avversari e serba rancore per i suoi nemici. | 2 The LORD is a jealous God and avenging, the LORD is avenging and wrathful; the LORD takes vengeance on his adversaries and keeps wrath for his enemies. |
| 3 Jahvè è longanime, sebbene onnipotente, e non lascia passare nulla Jahvè. Tra il turbine e la tempesta è il suo cammino e la nuvolaglia è la polvere dei suoi piedi. | 3 The LORD is slow to anger and of great might, and the LORD will by no means clear the guilty. His way is in whirlwind and storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. |
| 4 Minaccia il mare e lo dissecca e tutti i corsi d’acqua prosciuga. Vien meno Bashan e il Cirmelo; il fiore del Libano languisce. | 4 He rebukes the sea and makes it dry, he dries up all the rivers; Bashan and Carmel wither, the bloom of Lebanon fades. |
| 5 I monti tremano davanti a lui e i colli ondeggiano. Si fracassa la terra al suo cospetto e vengono meno tutti coloro che vi abitano. | 5 The mountains quake before him, the hills melt; the earth is laid waste before him, the world and all that dwell therein. |
| 6 Chi potrebbe resistere davanti alla sua collera? Chi potrebbe reggere alla sua ira ardente? Il suo sdegno si diffonde come fuoco e le rupi si accendono al suo passaggio. | 6 Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the heat of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken asunder by him. |
| 7 Buono è Jahvè per coloro che sperano in lui, un rifugio al tempo del pericolo. Ha cura di coloro che si rifugiano in lui | 7 The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him. |
| 8 e nel rumoreggiare della marea li mette al coperto. Farà distruzione dei suoi oppositori, i suoi avversari saranno perseguitati dalle tenebre. | 8 But with an overflowing flood he will make a full end of his adversaries, and will pursue his enemies into darkness. |
| 9 Che cosa tramate contro Jahvè? Egli in persona distruggerà. Non insorgeranno una seconda volta i suoi nemici, | 9 What do you plot against the LORD? He will make a full end; he will not take vengeance twice on his foes. |
| 10 perché fino dal fondamento periranno. Periranno come un fascetto di spine essi, saranno divorati dal fuoco come paglia secca. | 10 Like entangled thorns they are consumed, like dry stubble. |
| 11 Non è forse uscito da te uno che macchina malvagità contro Jahvè, che trama rovina? | 11 Did one not come out from you, who plotted evil against the LORD, and counseled villainy? |
| 12 Così dice Jahvè: «Anche se sono completi e molti, tuttavia saranno recisi e passeranno; ti ho umiliata..., ma non ti umilierò più. | 12 Thus says the LORD, "Though they be strong and many, they will be cut off and pass away. Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more. |
| 13 Ora io spezzo il suo giogo che ti opprime infrango i tuoi ceppi». | 13 And now I will break his yoke from off you and will burst your bonds asunder." |
| 14 Comanda su di Jahvè: «Non sarà più ricordato il tuo nome: dalla casa del tuo dio estirperò le sculture e gli idoli di metallo fuso. Io ti preparo un sepolcro obbrobrioso». | 14 The LORD has given commandment about you: "No more shall your name be perpetuated; from the house of your gods I will cut off the graven image and the molten image. I will make your grave, for you are vile." |
| 15 Behold, on the mountains the feet of him who brings good tidings, who proclaims peace! Keep your feasts, O Judah, fulfil your vows, for never again shall the wicked come against you, he is utterly cut off. |
