Ora ecco: la seconda erba veniva dopo la falciatura per il re. | 1 This is what Lord Yahweh showed me: there was a swarm of locusts when the second crop wassprouting, full-grown locusts, after the king's hay had been cut. |

| 3 S’impietosì Jahve riguardo a questo. « Non avverrà » disse Jahve. | 3 Then Yahweh relented; 'It wil not happen,' said Yahweh. |
| 4 Così mi ha fatto vedere il Signore Jahve: ed ecco, egli chiamava una siccità come un fuoco e quella divorò l’oceano immenso e divorava la campagna. | 4 This is what Lord Yahweh showed me: Lord Yahweh summoning fire in punishment; it had devouredthe great Abyss and was encroaching on the land, |
| 5 E dissi: « Signore Jahve, desisti! Come sussisterà Giacobbe? Poichè egli è piccolo! ». | 5 when I said, 'Lord Yahweh, stop, I beg you. How can Jacob survive, being so smal ?' |
| 6 S’impietosì Jahve riguardo a questo. «Non avverrà » disse il Signore Jahve. | 6 Then Yahweh relented; 'This wil not happen either,' said the Lord Yahweh. |
| 7 Così mi fece vedere il Signore Jahve; ed ecco un piombino stava su un muro. | 7 This is what he showed me: the Lord standing by a wal , with a plumb-line in his hand. |
| 8 Jahve mi domandò: « Che cosa vedi tu, Amos? ». Io risposi: « Un piombino ». E il Signore soggiunse: « Ecco, metto un piombino in mezzo al mio popolo Israele; ora non gli perdonerò più. | 8 'What do you see, Amos?' Yahweh asked me. 'A plumb-line,' I said. Then the Lord said, 'Look, I amgoing to put a plumb-line in among my people Israel; never again will I overlook their offences. |
| 9 Allora saranno distrutte le alture di Isacco e i santuari di Israele saranno ridotti in rovine: mi leverò contro la casa di Geroboamo con la spada ». | 9 The high places of Isaac wil be ruined and the sanctuaries of Israel laid waste, and, sword in hand, Iwil attack the House of Jeroboam.' |
| 10 Amazia, sacerdote di Bethel, mandò a dire a Geroboamo, re di Israele: « Amos congiura contro di te, in mezzo alla casa di Israele: il paese non può più oltre contenere i suoi discorsi. | 10 Amaziah the priest of Bethel then sent word to Jeroboam king of Israel as fol ows, 'Amos is plottingagainst you in the heart of the House of Israel; the country cannot tolerate his speeches. |

| 12 E Amazia disse ad Amos: « Veggente, va’, ritirati nel paese di Giuda; | 12 To Amos himself Amaziah said, 'Go away, seer, take yourself off to Judah, earn your living there, andthere you can prophesy! |

| 14 Amos rispose ad Amazia: « Non sono un profeta io nè sono un figlio di profeta, ma un mandriano e un raccoglitore di fichi di sicomoro. | 14 'I am not a prophet,' Amos replied to Amaziah, 'nor do I belong to a prophetic brotherhood. I ammerely a herdsman and dresser of sycamore-figs. |
| 15 Jahve mi prese di dietro al gregge e mi disse Jahve: “ Va’, fa' il profeta contro il mio popolo Israele ”. | 15 But Yahweh took me as I fol owed the flock, and Yahweh said to me, "Go and prophesy to my peopleIsrael." |
| 16 E ora ascolta la parola di: Jahve: Tu dici: “ Non: farai il profeta contro Israele è non vaticinerai contro la casa d’Isacco ” | 16 So now listen to what Yahweh says: "You say: Do not prophesy against Israel, do not foretel doomon the House of Isaac!" |
| 17 Perciò così dice Jahve: “ Tua moglie diventerà una prostituta nella città, i tuoi figli e le tue figlie cadranno di spada; la tua terra sarà divisa con la cordicella e tu morirai in terra impura: perchè Israele sarà certo deportato dalla sua terra” ». | 17 Very wel , this is what Yahweh says, "Your wife wil become a prostitute in the streets, your sons anddaughters wil fal by the sword, your land wil be parcel ed out by measuring line, and you yourself wil die onpolluted soil and Israel will go into captivity far from its own land!" ' |
