Siracide 41

JERUSALEM	KING JAMES BIBLE
1 O mort, quelle amertume que ta pensée pour l'homme qui vit heureux et au milieu de sesbiens, pour l'homme arrivé à qui tout réussit et qui peut encore goûter la nourriture.	1 O death, how bitter is the remembrance of thee to a man that liveth at rest in his possessions, unto the man that hath nothing to vex him, and that hath prosperity in all things: yea, unto him that is yet able to receive meat!
2 O mort, ta sentence est la bienvenue pour l'homme misérable et privé de ses forces, pour levieillard usé, agité de soucis, révolté et à bout de patience.	2 O death, acceptable is thy sentence unto the needy, and unto him whose strength faileth, that is now in the last age, and is vexed with all things, and to him that despaireth, and hath lost patience!
3 Ne redoute pas l'arrêt de la mort, souviens-toi de ceux d'avant toi et de ceux d'après toi.	3 Fear not the sentence of death, remember them that have been before thee, and that come after; for this is the sentence of the Lord over all flesh.
4 C'est la loi que le Seigneur a portée sur toute chair; pourquoi se révolter contre le bon plaisirdu Très-Haut? Que tu vives dix ans, cent ans, mille ans, au shéol on ne te reprochera pas ta vie.	4 And why art thou against the pleasure of the most High? there is no inquisition in the grave, whether thou have lived ten, or an hundred, or a thousand years.
5 De méchants garnements, tels sont les fils des pécheurs, ceux qui hantent les maisons desimpies.	5 The children of sinners are abominable children, and they that are conversant in the dwelling of the ungodly.
6 L'héritage des fils des pécheurs va à la ruine, leur postérité est l'objet d'un continuelreproche.	6 The inheritance of sinners' children shall perish, and their posterity shall have a perpetual reproach.
7 Un père impie est insulté par ses enfants, car c'est de lui qu'ils tiennent le déshonneur.	7 The children will complain of an ungodly father, because they shall be reproached for his sake.
8 Malheur à vous, impies, qui avez délaissé la loi du Dieu Très-Haut.	8 Woe be unto you, ungodly men, which have forsaken the law of the most high God! for if ye increase, it shall be to your destruction:
9 A votre naissance vous ne naissez que pour la malédiction; à votre mort la malédiction serapour vous.	9 And if ye be born, ye shall be born to a curse: and if ye die, a curse shall be your portion.
10 Tout ce qui vient de la terre retourne à la terre, ainsi vont les impies de la malédiction à laruine.	10 All that are of the earth shall turn to earth again: so the ungodly shall go from a curse to destruction.
11 Le deuil des hommes s'adresse à leurs dépouilles mais le nom maudit des pécheurss'efface.	11 The mourning of men is about their bodies: but an ill name of sinners shall be blotted out.
12 Aie souci de ton nom, car il te restera bien mieux que mille fortunes en or.	12 Have regard to thy name; for that shall continue with thee above a thousand great treasures of gold.
13 Une vie heureuse dure un certain nombre de jours, mais un nom honoré demeure à jamais.	13 A good life hath but few days: but a good name endureth for ever.
14 Mes enfants, gardez en paix mes instructions. Sagesse cachée et trésor invisible, à quoicela peut-il servir?	14 My children, keep discipline in peace: for wisdom that is hid, and a treasure that is not seen, what profit is in them both?
15 Mieux vaut un homme qui cache sa folie qu'un homme qui cache sa sagesse.	15 A man that hideth his foolishness is better than a man that hideth his wisdom.
16 Ainsi donc éprouvez la honte selon ce que je vais dire, car il n'est pas bon de se plier àtoute espèce de honte et tout n'est pas exactement apprécié de tous.	16 Therefore be shamefaced according to my word: for it is not good to retain all shamefacedness; neither is it altogether approved in every thing.
17 Ayez honte de la débauche devant un père et une mère et du mensonge devant un chef etun puissant;	17 Be ashamed of whoredom before father and mother: and of a lie before a prince and a mighty man;
18 du délit devant un juge et un magistrat et de l'impiété devant l'assemblée du peuple;	18 Of an offence before a judge and ruler; of iniquity before a congregation and people; of unjust dealing before thy partner and friend;
19 de la perfidie devant un compagnon ou un ami et du vol devant ton village;	19 And of theft in regard of the place where thou sojournest, and in regard of the truth of God and his covenant; and to lean with thine elbow upon the meat; and of scorning to give and take;
20 devant la vérité de Dieu et l'alliance, aie honte de plier les coudes à table,	20 And of silence before them that salute thee; and to look upon an harlot;
21 de l'affront en recevant ou en donnant, de rester sans réponse devant ceux qui te saluent,	21 And to turn away thy face from thy kinsman; or to take away a portion or a gift; or to gaze upon another man's wife.
22 d'arrêter ton regard sur une prostituée, de repousser ton compatriote,	22 Or to be overbusy with his maid, and come not near her bed; or of upbraiding speeches before friends; and after thou hast given, upbraid not;
23 de t'approprier la part d'un autre ou le cadeau qui lui est fait, de regarder une femme enpuissance de mari,
24 d'avoir des privautés avec une servante, -- ne t'approche pas de son lit! --
25 d'avoir des paroles blessantes devant tes amis, -- après avoir donné ne fais pas dereproches! --
26 de répéter ce que tu entends dire et de révéler les secrets.
27 Alors tu connaîtras la véritable honte et tu trouveras grâce devant tous les hommes.
