BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Viendo la muchedumbre, subió al monte, se sentó, y sus discípulos se le acercaron.	1 Seeing the crowds, he went onto the mountain. And when he was seated his disciples came to him.
2 Y tomando la palabra, les enseñaba diciendo:	2 Then he began to speak. This is what he taught them:
3 «Bienaventurados los pobres de espíritu, porque de ellos es el Reino de los Cielos.	3 How blessed are the poor in spirit: the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
4 Bienaventurados los mansos, porque ellos posseerán en herencia la tierra.	4 Blessed are the gentle: they shal have the earth as inheritance.
5 Bienaventurados los que lloran, porque ellos serán consolados.	5 Blessed are those who mourn: they shal be comforted.
6 Bienaventurados los que tienen hambre y sed de la justicia, porque ellos serán saciados.	6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for uprightness: they shal have their fil .
7 Bienaventurados los misericordiosos, porque ellos alcanzarán misericordia.	7 Blessed are the merciful: they shal have mercy shown them.
8 Bienaventurados los limpios de corazón, porque ellos verán a Dios.	8 Blessed are the pure in heart: they shal see God.
9 Bienaventurados los que trabajan por la paz, porque ellos serán llamados hijos de Dios.	9 Blessed are the peacemakers: they shal be recognised as children of God.
10 Bienaventurados los perseguidos por causa de la justicia, porque de ellos es el Reino de los Cielos.	10 Blessed are those who are persecuted in the cause of uprightness: the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
11 Bienaventurados seréis cuando os injurien, y os persigan y digan con mentira toda clase de mal contra vosotros por mi causa.	11 'Blessed are you when people abuse you and persecute you and speak al kinds of calumny againstyou falsely on my account.
12 Alegraos y regocijaos, porque vuestra recompensa será grande en los cielos; pues de la misma manera persiguieron a los profetas anteriores a vosotros.	12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven; this is how they persecuted the prophetsbefore you.
13 «Vosotros sois la sal de la tierra. Mas si la sal se desvirtúa, ¿con qué se la salará? Ya no sirve para nada más que para ser tirada afuera y pisoteada por los hombres.	13 'You are salt for the earth. But if salt loses its taste, what can make it salty again? It is good fornothing, and can only be thrown out to be trampled under people's feet.
14 «Vosotros sois la luz del mundo. No puede ocultarse una ciudad situada en la cima de un monte.	14 'You are light for the world. A city built on a hil -top cannot be hidden.
15 Ni tampoco se enciende una lámpara y la ponen debajo del celemín, sino sobre el candelero, para que alumbre a todos los que están en la casa.	15 No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lamp-stand where it shines for everyone inthe house.
16 Brille así vuestra luz delante de los hombres, para que vean vuestras buenas obras y glorifiquen a vuestro Padre que está en los cielos.	16 In the same way your light must shine in people's sight, so that, seeing your good works, they maygive praise to your Father in heaven.
17 «No penséis que he venido a abolir la Ley y los Profetas. No he venido a abolir, sino a dar cumplimiento.	17 'Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but tocomplete them.
18 Sí, os lo aseguro: el cielo y la tierra pasarán antes que pase una i o una tilde de la Ley sin que todo suceda.	18 In truth I tell you, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, is to disappear fromthe Law until al its purpose is achieved.
19 Por tanto, el que traspase uno de estos mandamientos más pequeños y así lo enseñe a los hombres, será el más pequeño en el Reino de los Cielos; en cambio, el que los observe y los enseñe, ése será grande en el Reino de los Cielos.	19 Therefore, anyone who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others todo the same wil be considered the least in the kingdom of Heaven; but the person who keeps them and teachesthem wil be considered great in the kingdom of Heaven.
20 «Porque os digo que, si vuestra justicia no es mayor que la de los escribas y fariseos, no entraréis en el Reino de los Cielos.	20 'For I tell you, if your uprightness does not surpass that of the scribes and Pharisees, you wil neverget into the kingdom of Heaven.
21 «Habéis oído que se dijo a los antepasados: No matarás; y aquel que mate será reo ante el tribunal.	21 'You have heard how it was said to our ancestors, You shal not kil ; and if anyone does kil he mustanswer for it before the court.
22 Pues yo os digo: Todo aquel que se encolerice contra su hermano, será reo ante el tribunal; pero el que llame a su hermano “imbécil”, será reo ante el Sanedrín; y el que le llame “renegado”, será reo de la gehenna de fuego.	22 But I say this to you, anyone who is angry with a brother wil answer for it before the court; anyone whocal s a brother "Fool" wil answer for it before the Sanhedrin; and anyone who cal s him "Traitor" wil answer for it in hel fire.
23 Si, pues, al presentar tu ofrenda en el altar te acuerdas entonces de que un hermano tuyo tiene algo contra ti,	23 So then, if you are bringing your offering to the altar and there remember that your brother hassomething against you,
24 deja tu ofrenda allí, delante del altar, y vete primero a reconciliarte con tu hermano; luego vuelves y presentas tu ofrenda.	24 leave your offering there before the altar, go and be reconciled with your brother first, and then comeback and present your offering.
25 Ponte enseguida a buenas con tu adversario mientras vas con él por el camino; no sea que tu adversario te entregue al juez y el juez al guardia, y te metan en la cárcel.	25 Come to terms with your opponent in good time while you are stil on the way to the court with him, orhe may hand you over to the judge and the judge to the officer, and you wil be thrown into prison.
26 Yo te aseguro: no saldrás de allí hasta que no hayas pagado el último céntimo.	26 In truth I tell you, you wil not get out til you have paid the last penny.
27 «Habéis oído que se dijo: No cometerás adulterio.	27 'You have heard how it was said, You shall not commit adultery.
28 Pues yo os digo: Todo el que mira a una mujer deseándola, ya cometió adulterio con ella en su corazón.	28 But I say this to you, if a man looks at a woman lustfully, he has already committed adultery with her inhis heart.
29 Si, pues, tu ojo derecho te es ocasión de pecado, sácatelo y arrójalo de ti; más te conviene que se pierda uno de tus miembros, que no que todo tu cuerpo sea arrojado a la gehenna.	29 If your right eye should be your downfal , tear it out and throw it away; for it wil do you less harm tolose one part of yourself than to have your whole body thrown into hell.
30 Y si tu mano derecha te es ocasión de pecado, córtatela y arrójala de ti; más te conviene que se pierda uno de tus miembros, que no que todo tu cuerpo vaya a la gehenna.	30 And if your right hand should be your downfall, cut it off and throw it away; for it wil do you less harmto lose one part of yourself than to have your whole body go to hel .
31 «También se dijo: El que repudie a su mujer, que le dé acta de divorcio.	31 'It has also been said, Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a writ of dismissal.
32 Pues yo os digo: Todo el que repudia a su mujer, excepto el caso de fornicación, la hace ser adúltera; y el que se case con una repudiada, comete adulterio.	32 But I say this to you, everyone who divorces his wife, except for the case of an il icit marriage, makesher an adulteress; and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
33 «Habéis oído también que se dijo a los antepasados: No perjurarás, sino que cumplirás al Señor tus juramentos.	33 'Again, you have heard how it was said to our ancestors, You must not break your oath, but must fulfilyour oaths to the Lord.
34 Pues yo digo que no juréis en modo alguno: ni por el Cielo =, porque es el trono de Dios,	34 But I say this to you, do not swear at al , either by heaven, since that is God's throne;
35 ni por la Tierra, porque es el escabel de sus pies; ni por Jerusalén, porque es la ciudad del gran rey.	35 or by earth, since that is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, since that is the city of the great King.
36 Ni tampoco jures por tu cabeza, porque ni a uno solo de tus cabellos puedes hacerlo blanco o negro.	36 Do not swear by your own head either, since you cannot turn a single hair white or black.
37 Sea vuestro lenguaje: “Sí, sí”; “no, no”: que lo que pasa de aquí viene del Maligno.	37 All you need say is "Yes" if you mean yes, "No" if you mean no; anything more than this comes from the Evil One.
38 «Habéis oído que se dijo: Ojo por ojo y diente por diente.	38 'You have heard how it was said: Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.
39 Pues yo os digo: no resistáis al mal; antes bien, al que te abofetee en la mejilla derecha ofrécele también la otra:	39 But I say this to you: offer no resistance to the wicked. On the contrary, if anyone hits you on the rightcheek, offer him the other as wel ;
40 al que quiera pleitear contigo para quitarte la túnica déjale también el manto;	40 if someone wishes to go to law with you to get your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.
41 y al que te obligue a andar una milla vete con él dos.	41 And if anyone requires you to go one mile, go two miles with him.
42 A quien te pida da, y al que desee que le prestes algo no le vuelvas la espalda.	42 Give to anyone who asks you, and if anyone wants to borrow, do not turn away.
43 «Habéis oído que se dijo: Amarás a tu prójimo y odiarás a tu enemigo.	43 'You have heard how it was said, You wil love your neighbour and hate your enemy.
44 Pues yo os digo: Amad a vuestros enemigos y rogad por los que os persigan,	44 But I say this to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you;
45 para que seáis hijos de vuestro Padre celestial, que hace salir su sol sobre malos y buenos, y llover sobre justos e injustos.	45 so that you may be children of your Father in heaven, for he causes his sun to rise on the bad as wellas the good, and sends down rain to fal on the upright and the wicked alike.
46 Porque si amáis a los que os aman, ¿qué recompensa vais a tener? ¿No hacen eso mismo también los publicanos?	46 For if you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even the tax col ectors do asmuch?
47 Y si no saludáis más que a vuestros hermanos, ¿qué hacéis de particular? ¿No hacen eso mismo también los gentiles?	47 And if you save your greetings for your brothers, are you doing anything exceptional?
48 Vosotros, pues, sed perfectos como es perfecto vuestro Padre celestial.	48 Do not even the gentiles do as much? You must therefore be perfect, just as your heavenly Father isperfect.'
