Psalms 140

New Jerusalem Bible	Miqra 'al pi ha-Mesorah
¹ [For the choirmaster Psalm Of David] Rescue me, Yahweh, from evil men, protect me from violentmen,	¹ לַמְנַצֵּחַ מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִֽד׃
² whose heart is bent on malice, day after day they harbour strife;	² חַלְּצֵנִי יְהֹוָה מֵֽאָדָם רָעמֵאִישׁ חֲמָסִים תִּנְצְרֵֽנִי׃
³ their tongues as barbed as a serpent's, viper's venom behind their lips.Pause	³ אֲשֶׁר חָשְׁבוּ רָעוֹת בְּלֵבכׇּל־יוֹם יָגוּרוּ מִלְחָמֽוֹת׃
⁴ Keep me, Yahweh, from the clutches of the wicked, protect me from violent men, who are bent onmaking me stumble,laying out snares where I walk,	⁴ שָׁנְנוּ לְשׁוֹנָם כְּֽמוֹ־נָחָשׁחֲמַת עַכְשׁוּבתַּחַת שְׂפָתֵימוֹ סֶֽלָה׃
⁵ in their arrogance hiding pitfal and nooseto trap me as I pass.Pause	⁵ שׇׁמְרֵנִי יְהֹוָה ׀ מִידֵי רָשָׁעמֵאִישׁ חֲמָסִים תִּנְצְרֵנִיאֲשֶׁר חָשְׁבוּ לִדְחוֹת פְּעָמָֽי׃
⁶ I said to Yahweh, 'You are my God.' Listen, Yahweh, to the sound of my prayer.	⁶ טָמְנֽוּ גֵאִים ׀ פַּח לִיוַחֲבָלִים פָּרְשׂוּ רֶשֶׁת לְיַד־מַעְגָּלמֹקְשִׁים שָׁתוּ־לִי סֶֽלָה׃
⁷ Yahweh my Lord, my saving strength, you shield my head when battle comes.	⁷ אָמַרְתִּי לַיהֹוָה אֵלִי אָתָּההַאֲזִינָה יְהֹוָה קוֹל תַּחֲנוּנָֽי׃
⁸ Yahweh, do not grant the wicked their wishes, do not let their plots succeed.Pause Do not let myattackers	⁸ יֱהֹוִה אֲדֹנָי עֹז יְשׁוּעָתִיסַכֹּתָה לְרֹאשִׁי בְּיוֹם נָֽשֶׁק׃
⁹ prevail, but let them be overwhelmed by their own malice.	⁹ אַל־תִּתֵּן יְהֹוָה מַאֲוַיֵּי רָשָׁעזְמָמוֹ אַל־תָּפֵק יָרוּמוּ סֶֽלָה׃
¹⁰ May red-hot embers rain down on them, may they be flung into the mire once and for all.	¹⁰ רֹאשׁ מְסִבָּיעֲמַל שְׂפָתֵימוֹ יכסומו יְכַסֵּֽימוֹ׃
¹¹ May the slanderer find no rest anywhere, may evil hunt down violent men implacably.	¹¹ ימיטו יִמּוֹטוּ עֲלֵיהֶם גֶּחָלִיםבָּאֵשׁ יַפִּלֵםבְּמַהֲמֹרוֹת בַּל־יָקֽוּמוּ׃
¹² I know that Yahweh wil give judgement for the wretched, justice for the needy.	¹² אִישׁ לָשׁוֹן בַּל־יִכּוֹן בָּאָרֶץאִישׁ־חָמָס רָעיְצוּדֶנּוּ לְמַדְחֵפֹֽת׃
¹³ The upright shal praise your name, the honest dwel in your presence.	¹³ ידעת יָדַעְתִּי כִּֽי־יַעֲשֶׂה יְהֹוָה דִּין עָנִימִשְׁפַּט אֶבְיֹנִֽים׃
	¹⁴ אַךְ צַדִּיקִים יוֹדוּ לִשְׁמֶךָיֵשְׁבוּ יְשָׁרִים אֶת־פָּנֶֽיךָ׃
